Goose Valley Fire Department to host fire truck pull @ Goose Valley Fire Department

SHERIDAN — The Goose Valley Fire Department volunteers will host a fire-truck pull on Saturday to raise money for Special Olympics Wyoming.

The event will begin at 9 a.m. and will feature 10-person teams competing to pull a fire truck 15 feet in the fastest time. The entry fee is $250 per team.

Sod Farm Festival to feature extensive music lineup @ Green Carpet Sod Farm

SHERIDAN — The annual Sod Farm Festival held to benefit Project Schoolhouse will feature an extensive lineup of musical performances from 3-9:30 p.m. Saturday.

The event will take place at the Green Carpet Sod Farm and gates open at 2 p.m. Project Schoolhouse raises money to build schools in Nicaragua.

Tickets to attend are $20 in advance or $25 at the gate. Kids age 11 and younger get in for free.

The Green Carpet Sod Farm is located at 80 Owl Creek Road.

The event will feature the music of Just Jim and Tammy, a band from Billings, Montana.

Big Brothers Big Sisters to host raffle, fundraiser @ Wendy’s

SHERIDAN — Big Brothers Big Sisters of Sheridan will hold a raffle for a Dr. Seuss quilt donated by Ann Gardener of State Farm for the grand prize.

Additional prizes are a two-month supply of Nerium age defying skin cream and a doTERRA essential oils basket.

Tickets are $6 a piece or two for $10 and can be purchased at 307 Auto Glass and State Farm.

The drawing for the raffle will be Sept. 15.

The nonprofit will host a second fundraiser on Aug. 25 at Wendy’s from 5-8 p.m. during which a portion of the proceeds from food sales will be donated to Big Brothers Big Sisters.

Brinton to host music lecture, chuckwagon dinner @ Brinton Museum

BIG HORN — The Brinton Museum will host a two-part event Aug. 25 to celebrate the music of the American West.

Dr. Ariel Downing will present a free lecture at 6:30 p.m. about the history of popular cowboy songs and ballads from 1879 through the present. She will discuss their Mexican and Irish influences, too.

Following the lecture, at approximately 7:30 p.m., musical entertainment and a chuckwagon dinner will be featured. Tickets for the dinner cost $25 per person for nonmembers and $20 for members. Tickets for children ages 6-12 cost $15; children 5 and younger get in for free.

Early bird registration for Rhino Run through Friday @ Bruce Hoffman Golden Dome.

SHERIDAN — This year’s Rhino Run hosted by the college’s nursing department will take place at Sheridan College at 9:30 a.m. Aug. 27.

Early registration for the event will take place through Saturday at a charge of $10 per person. Registration after that date will cost $12 per person. The registration will include a trophy for first-place finishers for both boys and girls, race T-shirts, water and a snack.

On Aug. 27, event registration will take place from 8-9 a.m. on the north side of the Bruce Hoffman Golden Dome.

The event will include 5K, 1-mile and 50-yard races.

Wildlife, wine focus of upcoming event @ Weston Wineries

SHERIDAN — The Wyoming Wildlife Federation, Wyoming Game and Fish Department and the Bighorn Audubon Society have teamed up to offer the public a day in the field watching and learning about wildlife.

Meet the groups at 9 a.m. Saturday at the Tongue River Valley Community Center in Dayton, located at 1100 US Highway 14. They will tour Amsden Creek Wildlife Habitat Management Area and Tongue River Canyon, near Dayton. WGFD and WWF experts will be on hand to discuss the species that inhabit the area as well as the importance of succulent forage for big game animals. A recent wildfire in the canyon will serve as the backdrop for the discussion.

Those planning to attend are encouraged to bring binoculars. Representatives of the Bighorn Audubon Society will provide attendees with some birding opportunities, including tips on what clues to look for, bird calls and species identification based on habitat type.

That evening, the group will gather in Sheridan to celebrate Wyoming’s wildlife at a special WWF Wine Event with speakers, music and a live auction at Western Wineries.

Weston Wineries has created a special vintage and wine label for this WWF fundraising event. The party starts at 5:30 p.m. at Weston Wineries, located at 201 Broadway St. in Sheridan.

PRBRC to host pig roast, celebration @ Barn in Big Horn

SHERIDAN — The Powder River Basin Resource Council will host a pig roast and celebration Aug. 27 from 3-8 p.m. at the Barn in Big Horn.

The 11th annual harvest celebration will include a farmers market beginning at 3 p.m., followed by a homegrown dinner at 5:30 p.m. and the Pies for Guys Auction at 7 p.m.

The event will also feature a raffle for prizes and music from Too Wet to Plow and Friends.

Tickets to attend the event are $15 for adults and $10 for children 12 and younger.

Reagan Day Dinner set for Sept. 3 @ Sheridan Holiday Inn.

SHERIDAN — The Sheridan County Republican Party and HALO for Freedom Warrior Foundation will host this year’s Reagan Day Dinner, entitled “In Honor of Our Heroes,” on Sept. 3 at the Sheridan Holiday Inn.

The Reagan Day Dinner is the annual fundraiser for the Sheridan County Republican Party. This year’s event will also help to support the efforts of HALO for Freedom Warrior Foundation.

“Each year, the Sheridan County GOP works to bring guests to the event who are insightful and engaging, and this year is no exception,” Sheridan County GOP Chairman Ryan Mulholland said in a press release. “With thanks to the HALO for Freedom Warrior Foundation, our featured speaker this year is retired U.S. Marine, John “Tig” Tiegen.

“Tig” has become well known as one of the “heroes of Benghazi” and is a co-author of “13 Hours” along with other members of the Benghazi CIA annex security team. He also consulted on the movie, “13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi.”

Among the other honored heroes that evening will be the founder of HALO for Freedom Warrior Foundation and former Golden Knights member, retired U.S. Army Sergeant 1st Class Dana Bowman; retired U.S. Army Congressional Medal of Honor recipient Don Jenkins; and U.S. Army veteran Margaret Tiegen, who is married to “Tig.” Several other warriors will join guests for the evening as well.

“This night is all about our heroes. We will honor and recognize the men and women who are serving and have served in the United States Military, law enforcement and firefighters – our heroes who sacrifice to make this country a remarkable place,” Mulholland said. “It is certain to be a memorable night for all who attend.”

Tickets for this year’s Reagan Day Dinner are limited to 500 guests, and coordinators for the event anticipate it will sell out.

Table sponsors — which includes nine tickets — are available for $1,000 apiece. Couples can buy tickets for $175 and individual tickets cost $90 apiece.

Gospel quartet to perform in Clearmont @ Clearmont Community Church

CLEARMONT — The Gospel quartet Men on the Mountain will perform a free concert in Clearmont on Sept. 8 at the Clearmont Community Church.

The concert will begin at 6:30 p.m. and will feature southern Gospel, hymns of the faith, contemporary praise and worship, Christian comedy and down-to-Earth testimonies of the faithfulness of God.

The quartet is comprised of Ed Tullis, Irv Jennings, Bob Hough, Dave Fletcher and accompanist Melody Jennings, all of Arnold, Nebraska.

Ice cream will be served after the concert.

SHERIDAN — The 2016 Show and Shine vehicle show will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at 1440 Westco Court in Sheridan.

Registration will open at 8 a.m. and trophies will be awarded for best in class in several categories including cars, motorcycles, trucks and a vintage sled.

A raffle will also be held for a 2016 custom Yamaha Bolt with custom paint, Vance and Hines pipes, 4-inch riser handlebars and stainless steel brake cables. The Bolt is valued at approximately $12,300.

Proceeds of the raffle will benefit The Food Group.

Micah Wyatt to perform at Small Stage Concert Series @ The Carriage House Theater

SHERIDAN — The Carriage House Theater will host the next concert in the Small Stage Concert Series Sunday.

At 7:30 p.m., Micah Wyatt will perform. Wyatt, a seasoned performer, is a former Sheridan resident now living in California. He uses a mix of acoustic instruments, instrument effects, looping technology and beatbox skills to make a single human into a whole band. Songs meld an old-time roots feel with contemporary Americana traditions and various cross-genre gymnastics.

Tickets to the Micah Wyatt concert are $15 each and are on sale now at the WYO Theater box office or online at wyotheater.com. Unsold tickets will be available at the door the night of the show.

Out of the Darkness community walk set for Sept. 24 @ Whitney Commons Park

SHERIDAN — The sixth annual Out of the Darkness community walk will take place Sept. 24 from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Whitney Commons Park.

The walk is to support those who have been affected by suicide; raise awareness of depression and other mental illnesses; and suicide. Funds raised will support suicide prevention research and program development through the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention and to support state and local suicide prevention efforts.

TRVCC to host ‘doggy dash’ 5K on Saturday in Dayton @ streets of Dayton.

DAYTON — The Tongue River Valley Community Center will host a doggy dash in Dayton on Saturday beginning at 9 a.m.

The 5K race will take place on the streets of Dayton.

Participants are encouraged to bring their dogs, but are reminded the pets must be on a leash.

The fee to participate is $15 for TRVCC members or $20 for non-members, if registration occurs before Saturday.

Day-of registration will be $20 for members and $25 for non-members.

A portion of the proceeds will benefit the Sheridan Dog and Cat Shelter.

Softball Association golf tournament set for Sunday @ Powder Horn Golf Club

SHERIDAN — The Sheridan Softball Association will host a golf tournament fundraiser on Sunday beginning at 10 a.m. at the Powder Horn Golf Club in Sheridan.

There is an entry fee of $100 per person or $400 per team.

The Scramble format will include $5 mulligans that are two per player.

Pin and long drive prizes will also be available at the tournament.

Funds raised will go toward building the Doubleday Sports Complex.
