SHERIDAN — Comedy Night featuring John DeBoer will begin at 6 p.m. March 28 at the Best Western Sheridan Center.

The evening of good, clean fun will benefit the Second Chance Sheridan Cat Rescue.

Hors d’oeuvres and appetizers will be served at 6 p.m. and the show will begin at 7 p.m., followed by raffle drawings.

Sheridan College Student Juried Exhibition art reception @ Sagebrush Community Art Center

SHERIDAN — The Sagebrush Community Art Center will host the Sheridan College Student Juried Exhibition April 7-29.

The show will feature works of art by Sheridan College students that were chosen to be in the show.

An artists’ reception will be held from 5-7 p.m. April 9. Refreshments will be served and the public is welcome to attend.

Lecture with ceramic artist Kim Dickey @ The Brinton Museum reception gallery

BIG HORN — The Brinton Museum, in partnership with Sheridan College, will host ceramic artist Kim Dickey for an evening lecture and workshop demonstration on Thursday and Friday.

Dickey is an art professor at the University of Colorado at Boulder. She is known for her large-scale, sculptural pieces.

Dickey received her master of fine arts in ceramics from New York State College of Ceramics at Alfred University. She has exhibited her work extensively throughout the United States and in group exhibitions in Canada, Germany, Australia, Japan and Taiwan. She has received numerous awards and fellowships.

Dickey was also represented in The Brinton Museum’s 2014 summer show “Flora and Fauna.”

The lecture will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 9, in The Brinton Museum’s Reception Gallery.

A one-day workshop will be held on Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the fine arts ceramics studio at the Sheridan College Art Department.

Both events are free and open to the public.

Dickey’s lecture and workshop are funded by a grant from the Homer A. and Mildred S. Scott Foundation.

Submission deadline for mini works of art @ Davis Gallery

SHERIDAN — The Wyoming Wilderness Association is soliciting donations from artists for its ninth annual Miniature Art and Music Auction: Celebrating our Wild Earth, to be exhibited and juried April 13-24 at Davis Gallery.

The WWA is asking local and regional artists and musicians to contribute miniature works of art (no larger than 6-by-8 inches) and “mini-concerts” (up to 90 minutes) in support of protecting some of the most special places in Wyoming.

Artists are asked to deliver finished and framed miniature art pieces to the Davis Gallery on or before April 10.

Prizes from local businesses will be awarded for work in the following categories: best earth landscape, best use of natural materials, best use of recycled materials and best of show.

All musicians will be recognized as well.

A free Grand Finale Gala at Davis Gallery will be held from 5-7 p.m. April 24. The public is welcome to submit final bids and enjoy free music, food and beverages.

Proceeds from the silent auction will benefit the WAA.

“The Art of David Shannon!” artist reception @ The Brinton Museum

BIG HORN — The Brinton Museum presents its 10th Illustrator Show featuring celebrated Caldecott Honor Book recipient and children’s storybook author and illustrator David Shannon.

“The Art of David Shannon!” opens in the Museum’s Reception Gallery on Thursday with an artist’s reception on Sunday, April 12, from 2-4 p.m.

A gallery talk and book signing are scheduled for 7:30 p.m. April 16.

Admission to the reception and gallery talk is free and open to the public.

David Shannon is perhaps best known for his popular children’s picture book, “No, David!” published by The Blue Sky Press and inspired by whimsical drawings made when he was a little boy.

A resident of Los Angeles, David grew up in Spokane, Washington, and has written and illustrated numerous books for children including the enchanting “Jangles: A Big Fish Story,” a tale about a boy and a fish, and “A Bad Case of Stripes!,” a story about a charming little girl who develops a bad case of stripes.

More than 60 of Shannon’s original children’s book illustrations are represented in The Brinton Museum’s 10th Illustrator Show. The exhibit is funded by a grant from the Homer A. and Mildred S. Scott Foundation.

“The Art of David Shannon!” will show through May 31.

Auction for one-night stay at Historic Sheridan Inn @ The Historic Sheridan Inn

SHERIDAN — Tickets are currently on sale for the unveiling of the Historic Sheridan Inn’s newly renovated rooms.

On April 18, the rooms at the Inn will be raffled or auctioned for a one-night stay on May 15, giving individuals the opportunity to be the first guests since 1965 to have the ability or option to stay the night.

The event on April 18 will begin at 5:30 p.m. with a social hour including cocktails and heavy hors d’oeuvres. The evening will also include games, raffles and a silent auction. At 7 p.m., a live auction will begin during which phone bids will be accepted.

Seating at the event is limited.

Tickets are $500 for reserved sponsor tables (seats eight), $100 per couple or $50 for an individual.

‘Wyoming Grasslands’ photography exhibit opening reception @ Ucross Foundation Art Gallery

UCROSS — The Ucross Foundation announces an upcoming exhibit called “Wyoming Grasslands” which will feature photographic work from William Sutton and Michael Berman.

The show is a collaboration between the artists, the Wyoming Chapter of The Nature Conservancy and the Buffalo Bill Center of the West’s Draper Natural History Museum.

Berman and Sutton spent three years traversing Wyoming, logging many miles in an old pickup truck and on foot. Their travels took them to public and private lands, including several properties with conservation easements held by The Nature Conservancy and time in a residence at the Ucross Foundation to capture Wyoming’s vast and beautiful landscape.

The Ucross Foundation is the first venue that will present this traveling exhibit, which will tour to 14 libraries in the state as well as the Wyoming State Museum.

The traveling exhibition, which features 41 photographs, is a smaller version of a major exhibition that will open at the Buffalo Bill Center of the West in Cody in June.

There will be a gallery reception for the show from 5:30-7:30 p.m. May 1 at the Ucross Foundation Art Gallery. It will feature an artist talk by Sutton, and Rick Pallister with The Nature Conservancy will speak about grasslands conservation.

The exhibit will be on display through June 15.

A public symposium on grasslands will take place at the gallery on May 30.

This ladies night out and fashion show fundraiser for Bought Beautifully will allow participants to experience the latest fashions, talk with stylists on how to enhance their wardrobe, learn style tips, purchase products that make a positive impact, enjoy wine, desserts and late-night dancing and celebrate women worldwide.

12th annual Beaver Creek Slide @ Dahlin residence

SHERIDAN — The 12th annual Beaver Creek Slide and third annual Beaver Creek Bike Slog will take place May 2, with part of the proceeds to benefit the Sheridan Community Homeless Shelter operated by Volunteers of America.

The homeless shelter will receive $12.50 of each individual’s entry fee.

Races include a half marathon and 3.5-mile walk/run. The half marathon is a loop course covering primarily dirt and gravel roads along the scenic Bighorn Mountain foothills. The 3.5-mile course loops through the Wild Turkey and Beaver Creek subdivisions.

The courses are well marked and have aid stations.

Last year’s races had competitors from across Wyoming and Montana.

Walkers for the half marathon will start at 8 a.m. May 2, and runners will start at 9 a.m.

The 3.5-milers start at 10 a.m.

Bike racers take the same course as the half marathon and do two loops starting at 8 a.m. Bikers need to yield to runners and stay on the right side of the road while runners stay to the left.

The entry fee is $30, payable to Wyoming Innovation. Entry forms can be picked up at the Sports Stop in Sheridan or via email by contacting bdahlin@wyoming.com.

Each entrant receives a long sleeved T- Shirt. Lunch is provided, and door prizes will be drawn after the race. Awards go to the top three finishers in each race for men and women.

Races will start at the Dahlin residence at 12 S. Sharptailed Road.

‘Paint & Pinot for Paws’ to benefit the Dog and Cat Shelter @ The Paint Post

SHERIDAN — The Paint Post will offer “Paint & Pinot for Paws” at 6 p.m. May 13.

The evening of step-by-step painting instruction will allow participants to take home a cute rendition of six furry friends — not to mention the memories of a fun evening with friends, music and a little wine.

A portion of the money raised from the event will go to the Dog and Cat Shelter.

The cost is $40 per person.

Annual VA pie and plant sale @ Greenhouse at Sheridan VA Medical Center

SHERIDAN — The annual Veterans Affairs Volunteer Pie and Plant Sale will be held May 19 at the VA Medical Center.

The plant sale will open at 7:30 a.m. May 19 in the greenhouse. Lots of vegetables, flowers and hanging baskets — all planted and cared for by VA volunteers Tom Aksamit, Ernie Rotellini and Sam Rotellini — will be available for purchase.

Pie sales will begin at 10:30 a.m. in the Auditorium. A variety of pies will be offered.

All proceeds from the sales will support programs and services for veterans at the VAMC. Past uses have included sponsoring Super Bowl and Christmas parties and purchasing a TV for the day room.

DSA wine, food and music pairing event @ The Loft above the Cattle and Creek Restaurant

SHERIDAN — The Downtown Sheridan Association will host an evening of wine, food and music pairing from 6-9 p.m. May 19 at The Loft, located above the Cattle and Creek Restaurant at 201 Broadway St.

The Instagators will provide live music.

Wine will be donated by Steve Reed of Northwest Vintage, and food will be donated by Killy’s Warehouse Market and Red Velvet Bakery.

VA2K Walk and Roll @ Sheridan Veterans Affairs Medical Center

SHERIDAN — The Sheridan Veterans Affairs Health Care System will host a VA2K Walk and Roll on May 20 at the Sheridan VAMC to encourage healthy activity while supporting homeless Veterans with donated food.

The VA2K Walk and Roll is free and open to veterans, members of the public and VA employees.

The Sheridan VA2K will be held on the parade grounds between 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. May 20.

Pre-registration is not required and those interested in participating can arrive and walk or roll any time during the event. There will be signs for alternate location if weather is poor.

The Sheridan event is just one of many VA2Ks taking place on Wednesday at VA facilities across the country.

In conjunction with the event, VA’s Volunteer Service Office will accept donations to be used for existing VA programs for homeless veterans. There will be a box to receive small household items that will be used to assist homeless veterans moving into their new homes, as well as canned food goods.

There is no requirement for a donation in order to participate.

The event is open to people of all fitness levels and can be done over a lunch break.

Miss Teen send off @ Powder Horn Clubhouse

Local teenager Olivia Boley, Miss Wyoming Outstanding Teen, will be heading off for the national Miss America’s Outstanding Teen Pageant in Orlando, Florida, July 27 thru August 1 and a send-off and fundraising event will be held at the Powder Horn Clubhouse Tuesday. Come for cocktails at 5 p.m., followed by a dress rehearsal by Boley at 6 p.m. The show will include a live talent performance of her dance, interview questions from the crowd and an evening gown competition dress rehearsal. A live auction to support Boley’s platform of “Connecting Generations.” Proceeds from the live auction will go to the Sheridan Senior Center, Children’s Miracle Network and the Miss Wyoming board. Any net profit from ticket sales will be used to help pay for Boley’s trip expenses. Tickets are $50 for adults and $30 for children with each ticket including one drink and light appetizers. Sod Farm Festival @ Green Carpet Sod Farm

The Sod Farm Festival will return to Sheridan on Aug. 22. The semi-annual outdoor music festival is a fundraiser for the nonprofit Project Schoolhouse.

Nonstop music will be performed from 3-8:30 p.m. by bands including Robert Cline Jr., Bonnie and Taylor Sims, the Bare Foot Band, Canary Joe, Chris Knodel, the Craft Brothers, Damian Trujillo, Doug Andrews, Ethan Chartier, the Fireants, the Nate Champion Band, the Quarterman Brothers, Sam Morton, Shot in the Foot, Tab Barker and Too Wet to Plow.

Tickets are $20 in advance, $25 at the gate.

Project Schoolhouse works to build schools and water systems in impoverished parts of Nicaragua.

The festival will take place at the Green Carpet Sod Farm located at 80 Owl Creek Road.

Swing for Smiles @ Powder Horn Golf Club

The 2nd annual “Swing for Smiles” golf tournament, to benefit the Give Kids The World Village, an annual project of the Perkins Family Restaurant chain, will be held at the Powder Horn Golf Club on Saturday. Dinner and a calcutta will be hosted Friday night preceding the tournament. On Saturday, shotgun start is at 10 a.m. with rounds going for approximately 4.5 hours. The derby will begin at 3 p.m. and awards will follow at 6 p.m. The tournament is a two person best ball. The cost to participate is $125 for club members and $200 for non-members.
