‘Collage with Neltje’ workshop set for June 25 @ The Sagebrush Community Art Center

SHERIDAN — The Sagebrush Community Art Center will host “Collage with Neltje” on June 25 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Cost to attend is $60 for a member and $70 for a non-member.

Supports and glue will be provided, including pictures from newspapers or

magazines and trinkets or earrings. Supplies will cover an area approximately 20 inches by 15 inches.

Participants are encouraged to bring a sack lunch or the class will go out to eat during the one-hour lunch break.

The Sagebrush Community Art Center is located at 201 E. Fifth St.

‘Paint for a Cause’ set for Tuesday @ The Paint Post

‘The Power of Play’ opening set for July 2 @ The Ucross Foundation

SHERIDAN — The Ucross Foundation will host the opening of the new exhibit “The Power of Play: Cross-Pollination of Art and Science” on July 2 from 1-3:30 p.m.

The event will include music and dance performances.

All are welcome to attend the event at no charge and refreshments will be available.

Attendees will be able to meet and talk with 20 artists, writers, composers, musicians, singers and scientists.

Next round of Jentel Presents planned for July 5 @ Sagebrush Community Art Center

SHERIDAN — The Jentel Artist Residency program will feature June’s residents in an event open to the public on Tuesday from 5:30-7 p.m. at the Sagebrush Community Art Center.

Presenters will include printmaker and artist Martin Azevedo, of Turlock, California; painter Sandra Dal Poggetto, of Helena, Montana; essayist Abby Rabinowitz, of Brooklyn, New York; multidisciplinary artist Micheal Pribich, of New York City; novelist Laura Brodie, of Lexington, Virginia; and photographer James Robert (Rob) Southard, of Lexington, Kentucky.

Library to feature multiple exhibits @ Sheridan County Fulmer Public Library

SHERIDAN — Sheridan Fulmer Library will feature two art exhibits in the month of August.

A public artist reception will be held on the mezzanine on Thursday from 5-7 p.m. for local artist Daniel Granger whose work will include a mixture of photographs, paintings, drawings and wood sculptures on display on the mezzanine.

Wyoming State Museum’s traveling exhibit “Those Holes into the Earth: Centuries of Mining” will look at mining from prehistoric times to modern day Wyoming through photographs, illustrations, text and a handout “Booms and Busts.” It will be on display for the month of July in the Inner Circle.

In addition to the two exhibits, members of the local Monarch Underground Miners Picnic organization will display several antique mining items and artwork from former mining community residents in the Sheridan area.

The art show will be the first time Wright’s work will have been shown in public for 26 years.

Sales from the art show will benefit Wright’s widow, Natalie Wright, to cover continued costs of her care at Westview Health Care Center.

SHERIDAN — An informational meeting on the voter initiative Peggy A. Kelly Act will take place at the Sheridan County Fulmer Public Library Inner Circle room on Wednesday from 6:30-8:30 p.m.

The act would allow medical cannabis and hemp production in Wyoming. Wyoming NORML will present and encourages attendees to bring questions. The group has been circulating a petition to put the issue on the ballot.

Jentel artists to present to public Tuesday @ Sagebrush Community Art Center

SHERIDAN — A two-day candidate forum for the Aug. 16 Wyoming primary election will take place on Aug. 9 from 7-9 p.m. at Sheridan Wesleyan Church.

The event is an opportunity for the different candidates that are on the Sheridan County ballots to share their views with the public.

‘Teach-in’ to discuss roadless rules @ Sheridan County Fulmer Public Library

SHERIDAN — The Council for the Bighorn Range has joined in the Bighorn Forest Roadless Collaborative as a wilderness/roadless representative. The group will host a “teach-in” on Monday from 7-8:30 p.m. at the Sheridan County Fulmer Public Library.

The discussion will include the history and effects of the Roadless Area Conservation Rule in the Bighorn National Forest and how the public can affect the recommendations on the remaining roadless areas on public lands across the Bighorn Mountains. The meeting is open to the public.

Since late 2012 when the Roadless Rule was affirmed, the Bighorn National Forest has been out of compliance with the rule. The collaborative is composed of members from industry, Wyoming State Forestry, agriculture, recreation, conservation, sportsmen and local government.

The collaborative will take comment from the public in forming its recommendations.

In the spring of 2017, the Bighorn Forest Roadless Collaborative will make recommendations to the governor for future management of these roadless areas.

G&F to hold public meeting on furbearing animal hunting Thursday @ Sheridan WGFD office.

SHERIDAN — The Wyoming Game and Fish Department will hold a series of statewide public meetings to discuss proposed changes to Game and Fish Commission Regulations Chapter 4, Furbearing Animal Hunting or Trapping.

The meeting in Sheridan will take place at 4 p.m. Thursday at the Sheridan WGFD office.

All interested parties are encouraged to attend. A full listing of proposed changes is available for review online. Comments can also be submitted online until 5 p.m. Sept. 26.

The public is also invited to provide comments on the proposed incorporation to the new Chapter 35, Hunting Regulation for Persons with Disabilities, which includes the previous independent regulations Chapter 38, Hunters with a Qualifying Disability Authorized to Shoot from a Vehicle and Chapter 64, Regulation for Central Visual Acuity Disability Permits.

Game and Fish is also planning to repeal Chapter 38 and 64 which have already been incorporated into the new Chapter 35.

SHERIDAN — The next round of the Jentel Artist Residency Program’s monthly “Jentel Presents”  will take place Tuesday from 5:30-7 p.m. at the Sagebrush Community Art Center.

This month’s presenters include non-fiction writer Jacqueline Bussie, of Fargo, North Dakota; sculptor Natalie Abrams, of Charlotte, North Carolina; book artist Robert Rowe, of Peoria, Illinios; painter Cynthia Camlin, of Mount Vernon, Washington; literary writer Rachel Riederer, of Brooklyn, New York; and textile artist Emma Levitt, of Shoreline, Washington.

The Jentel Foundation offers dedicated individuals a supportive environment in which to further their creative development.

While at Jentel, visual artists and writers have the opportunity to experience unfettered time to allow for thoughtful reflection and meditation on the creative process. The setting preserves the agricultural and historical integrity of the land to help inspire local artists.

Sagebrush ‘Growlers’ reception set for Sept. 29 @ Sagebrush Community Art Center,

SHERIDAN — The Sagebrush Community Art Center will host an opening reception for “Growlers: On Beyond the Purity of Law” on Sept. 29 form 5-7 p.m.

Curators for this invitational show include Elaine Henry, Rod Dugal, Jason Lanka and Brittney Denham.

The event will include artistic interpretations of growlers (a jug-like vessel for holding and transporting beer) crafted by glass and ceramic artists both local and from across the U.S. The event is free and open to the public.
