SHERIDAN — The Wyoming Wildlife Federation, Wyoming Game and Fish Department and the Bighorn Audubon Society have teamed up to offer the public a day in the field watching and learning about wildlife.
Meet the groups at 9 a.m. Saturday at the Tongue River Valley Community Center in Dayton, located at 1100 US Highway 14. They will tour Amsden Creek Wildlife Habitat Management Area and Tongue River Canyon, near Dayton. WGFD and WWF experts will be on hand to discuss the species that inhabit the area as well as the importance of succulent forage for big game animals. A recent wildfire in the canyon will serve as the backdrop for the discussion.
Those planning to attend are encouraged to bring binoculars. Representatives of the Bighorn Audubon Society will provide attendees with some birding opportunities, including tips on what clues to look for, bird calls and species identification based on habitat type.
That evening, the group will gather in Sheridan to celebrate Wyoming’s wildlife at a special WWF Wine Event with speakers, music and a live auction at Western Wineries.
Weston Wineries has created a special vintage and wine label for this WWF fundraising event. The party starts at 5:30 p.m. at Weston Wineries, located at 201 Broadway St. in Sheridan.
