Tween Challenge Takeover — K’nex @ Sheridan County Fulmer Public Library

SHERIDAN — The Sheridan County Fulmer Public Library will continue to offer programming for “tweens” through May.

Next week’s “Tween Challenge Takeover” programs will focus on fiber art.

“Tween Challenge Takeover” is geared toward kids in fifth through seventh grades.

The program includes activities and experiments that draw from the fields of science, technology, engineering, art, mathematics and the “maker-space” movement.

The programs are held Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:30-5 p.m. in the Children’s Theater at Sheridan County Fulmer Public Library.

The following is the schedule of activities planned through May:

Rhino Run @ Sheridan College

SHERIDAN — The nursing program at Sheridan College will host its second annual Rhino Run on Saturday to benefit Science Kids, Sheridan College nursing students, the food bank and The Food Group.

The run will be held at 2 p.m. May 30 at the college. Show up at noon to register and pick up a T-shirt.

Entry fee is $10 plus a canned food item.

Four Rhino “chases” will be offered: 5K Rhino Run, 2.5K Rhino Trot, 1K Rhino Chase and 50-Yard Diaper Dash.

Pick up and drop off registration forms at participating elementary schools, middle schools and day cares or register the day of the event.

The event is open to the public. Organizers request that no dogs be brought.

Sheridan WYO Rodeo and Indian Relay Races

Come check out the first night of PRCA rodeo action — from bucking broncs to bull riding to rodeo clowns.

Pre-rodeo entertainment starts at 6:30 pm, the World Championship Indian Relay Races at 7 p.m., and then the rodeo itself.

General admission tickets (still reserved seating) are $16.50 in advance, or $17.50 at the gate for the Wednesday and Thursday performances; $18.50 in advance or $19.50 at the gate for the Friday and Saturday performances. (Also note that Friday and Saturday performances are typically sold out before show time.)

On Wednesday only, kids 12 and under are $7.

Parking is available on the fairgrounds property and on the adjacent streets; free remote parking available at the Sheridan High School parking lot with complimentary trolley service to the fairgrounds.

SHERIDAN — The weekly afternoon outdoor fitness sessions, Sheridan ParkFit, will continue Wednesday with ultimate frisbee at Whitney Commons.

Each Wednesday through Aug. 26 free community workouts will be offered at a variety of parks. All members of the community are invited to attend.

This year, points will be given for each activity you attend and you can play as an individual or team. Awards for the most points will be given out at the last session on Aug. 26, at which time the winning team will determine the final activity.

Tongue Riverpalooza @ Connor State Park, Ranchester

Are you one of those who want to get out of town during Rodeo Week? How about a family-friendly campout in Ranchester’s Connor Park on Friday night?

Bring your picnic dinner and camping gear for Tongue Riverpalooza. Organizers will provide a free outdoor movie, “A River Runs Through It” at about 9 p.m.

Then on Saturday, the festivities will head to a private put-in on Goose Creek around 9 a.m. for a two- to three-hour float trip and river cleanup.

Shuttle service will be provided, but bring your own boat (canoe, kayak, inflatable rowboat, etc.).

Don’t want to camp out Friday night? No problem. When you RSVP, you will be provided directions to the put-in so you can meet there on Saturday.

Sheridan Cowgirls Rodeo @ Sheridan County Fairgrounds

The Sheridan Cowgirls Rodeo will come to the Sheridan County Fairgrounds Thursday night. From 6-9p.m., members of the community are invited to watch the local rodeo competition for boys and girls under age 15 and women of all ages. The events of the evening will include barrel racing, pole bending, goat tying, dummy roping, breakaway roping, steer stopping, girls team roping and mixed roping. The event is free. SHERIDAN — The Sagebrush Community Art Center will host “Sagebrush Kids Summer Art Camp” Monday through Thursday. Classes will be offered throughout the week at a cost of $35 per person, per course.

Classes offered during the camp will include:

• jewelry making on Monday and Tuesday from noon to 2 p.m. This class will be taught by Karen St. Clair and will teach the fundamentals for creating, stringing and finishing a bracelet or necklace.

• paint your imagination on Monday and Tuesday from 2-4 p.m. This class will be taught by Sonja Caywood and will allow kids to use acrylic pains to transform random shapes into sill creatures.

• draw yourself on Wednesday and Thursday from noon to 2 p.m. This class will be taught by Alexandra Aisele and will lead kids on an exercise to draw themselves while learning the basic elements of design.

• waterfalls of color on Wednesday and Thursday from 2-4 p.m. This class will be taught by Tena Twite and will teach some playful painting techniques.

Main Street in Sheridan has changed quite a bin in 127 years.Explore the changes and similarities with this journey. All Tidbit Tuesday programs are geared toward children ages 4-10 but older children are welcome to attend. All our Tidbit programs include a story and a hands on activity. “Smackdown in Sheridan” roller derby bout @ Sheridan Junior High School

The Wild West Wreckers roller derby team will host “Smackdown in Sheridan” this Saturday at Sheridan Junior High School.

Not only will this be the Wreckers’ only home bout of the year, it will be a historic event as the first ever women’s roller derby home bout in Sheridan.

The Wild West Wreckers will battle the Rapid City Revolution Saturday at 6 p.m. Doors will open at 5 p.m. at SJHS.

Presale tickets are available for $8 at sheridanrollerderby.org. Tickets will be $10 at the door, and kids 5 and younger are free. Anyone who brings a canned-food donation will receive $1 off day-of admission. Ten percent of ticket sales will benefit the Antelope Butte Foundation.

Field Sketching for Children @ The Brinton Museum

The Brinton Museum, Sagebrush Community Art Center and Science Kids will present “Field Sketching for Children” on Thursday.

Local artist Joel Ostlind will host a field sketching workshop for children 8 to 12 years old on The Brinton Museum grounds.

Participants will meet at the Sagebrush Art Gallery located in the Historic Train Depot at 201 E. 5th Street at 8:30 a.m. and ride the Science Kids bus to The Brinton Museum.  The bus will return the participants to the Sagebrush Art Gallery at 1:30 p.m.

Art supplies will be provided; participants need to bring their own water, lunch and snack.

Cost is $35 per child.
