SheridanAires winter concert @ Sheridan Senior Center

SHERIDAN — The Sheridan Senior Center’s SheridanAires will perform the group’s annual winter concert Thursday and Friday.

This year’s performances will be a tribute to Irving Berlin’s “White Christmas.”

On Thursday, the performance will begin at 1:30 p.m. and refreshments will be served. A contribution of $2 per person is suggested.

On Friday, a dinner featuring pork tenderloin will begin at 6 p.m. and will be followed by the show at 7 p.m. The dinner cost is a suggested $10 per person. RSVPs are requested for dinner by Wednesday. There is no charge for only the show Friday.

High Mountain Holiday Bazaar @ Ranchester Town Hall

RANCHESTER — The High Mountain Holiday Bazaar will take place from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday in Ranchester.

The craft bazaar and free chili lunch will occur in the Ranchester Town Hall multi-purpose room.

Breakfast items will also be served as a fundraiser for the Dayton Community Church youth group.

SHERIDAN — Gather around for some holiday cheer at the Kalif Shrine’s annual Christmas party Saturday.

All kids are welcome to meet and have their pictures taken with Santa, who will be handing out Christmas stockings.

Attendees can also enjoy a lunch of hot dogs, chips and soft drinks.

The event is free and open to the public.

SHERIDAN — The Winter Wonderland Holiday Bazaar will take place Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Henry A. Coffeen Elementary School.

The bazaar will feature a wide variety of small businesses and crafters.

The event is sponsored by the elementary school’s parent-teacher organization.

Mad Hatter Tea Party @ Sheridan County Fulmer Public Library

SHERIDAN — The classic children’s book Alice in Wonderland was published by author Lewis Carroll in November 1865. The book has delighted millions of children since then and become part of popular culture. The Sheridan County Library System has been celebrating the 150-year anniversary of this influential book recently with several activities that are free and open to the public.

On Saturday, a Mad Hatter Tea Party will take place in the Inner Circle.

Join the library staff for a tea party at 1 p.m. Attendees will have the opportunity to make a Mad Hatter hat. Hats and decorative supplies will be provided. Afterward, the library will screen two movies in the Inner Circle and Children’s Library Theater beginning at 2 p.m. Call the library for more details about the movies. Children of all ages are welcome.

A whimsical reinvention of Dickens’ most beloved Christmas story will be performed Dec. 5-6 and Dec. 12-13 by the Sheridan Civic Theatre Guild.

This tale — “A Seussified Christmas Carol”— of glorious holiday cheer is similar to something Dr. Seuss might have come up with — if he ever had his way with the story.

The show will be performed at 2 p.m. each day and is directed by Kim Detmer.

Tickets are $15 for adults and $12 for seniors, active military members and students.

Tickets can be purchased at the WYO Theater box office, by calling 672-9084 or online at www.wyotheater.com. Remaining tickets will be available at the Carriage House Theater one hour before the performance.

PBS Christmas concert featuring Amy, Annie Smith @ Sheridan Inn

SHERIDAN — On Thursday at 5:30 p.m., the Historic Sheridan Inn will host an old-fashioned Christmas concert.

The concert will feature the soulful music of Wyoming natives Annie and Amy Smith.

Following the concert, hot chocolate and cookies will be served.

WyomingPBS will tape the concert and broadcast it as part of the “Wyoming Chronicle” series on Dec. 18 at 8 p.m., Dec. 21 at 8 p.m. and Dec. 24 at 8:30 p.m.

The event is free and open to the public, but organizers ask those planning to attend to pick up tickets at the Inn’s front desk before the event. Seating will be limited.

SC Christmas concert @ WYO Theater

SHERIDAN — The Sheridan College music, theater and dance departments will present “A Sheridan College Christmas 2015” on Friday at 7 p.m. at the WYO Theater.

The performance will feature music from some of the newly formed musical groups at Sheridan College — Brass Ensemble, Chamber Strings and the Viol Consort. Other performers include the SC Wind Ensemble, Jazz Ensemble, Collegiate Chorale, Chamber Choir and Dance Program.

Renditions of iconic holiday songs, such as “Sleigh Ride,” and “It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year,” as well as classic Christmas favorites will highlight the evening.

The performance’s finale will include a sing-along for the entire audience featuring the songs “Deck the Halls,” “Jingle Bells,” “O Christmas Tree,” and “We Wish You a Merry Christmas.”

Tickets are $10 for adults, $8 for seniors and active military members, and $5 for students. Children 12 and under are free, but will need a ticket.

Kids jewelry-making party @ Thorne-Rider Campus Center at SC

SHERIDAN — The Sheridan College Center for Workforce and Community Education will host its annual Holiday Jewelry Making Party for kids Dec. 12.

The event, set to take place from 9 a.m. to noon at the Thorne-Rider Campus Center, will allow kids to make a bracelet that they can keep for themselves or give as a gift.

In addition, the party will include prizes, snacks, activities, games and fun for kids. All children ages 5 and older are welcome to participate.

The cost is $20 per child.

The event will allow attendees to make their own hot air balloons.

Live from The Met: Mozart’s “The Magic Flute” @ WYO Theater

SHERIDAN — The WYO Theater will host Mozart’s “The Magic Flute” as part of its The Metropolitan Opera: Live in High Definition series at 10:55 a.m. Saturday.

As part of its efforts to reinvigorate opera and reach out to a broader public, The Metropolitan Opera in New York launched the series of opera performances transmitted live to movie theaters and other venues around the world.

“The Magic Flute” is the drama of a noble prince who is ordered by the mysterious Queen of the Night to rescue a beautiful princess who has been kidnapped.

Tickets are $18 for adults and $9 for students. They are available at the WYO Theater box office.

Sheridan County Youth and Children’s Chorales @ WYO Theater

SHERIDAN — The Sheridan County Youth and Children’s Chorales will present the “Sounds of the Season” concert Monday at 7 p.m. at the WYO Theater.

Sheridan County’s best third- through eighth-grade singers will perform. Special guests will include Sheridan High School’s Spectrum Show Choir and flutist Leslie Viren.

The chorales are under the direction of Stephanie Zukowski, Samantha Knesebeck and Tami Davis with JoAnn Lilley as accompanist.

Stars of Tomorrow auditions @ WYO Theater

SHERIDAN — Organizers of the annual Stars of Tomorrow competition will host auditions for this year’s show Tuesday and Thursday.

The Tuesday auditions will be for those children in kindergarten through fifth grades. There are two divisions in that age group — kindergarten to second grade and third- through fifth-graders.

The Thursday auditions will be for those students in the junior high and high school divisions.

First-, second- and third-place winners from each division will receive a trophy and certificate. The overall winner of the show will also receive a scholarship toward attending the college of his/her choice. The overall will also have the opportunity to compete at the district level and potentially at the national level.

‘We the People’ dress rehearsal @ Sheridan County Fulmer Public Library

SHERIDAN — The Sheridan High School “We the People” team will perform a dress rehearsal for the state competition Jan. 22 at the Sheridan County Fulmer Public Library in the Inner Circle.

The event will begin at 9 a.m. and will feature 31 government students from SHS as they prepare for the Feb. 1 competition.

The group encourages members of the community to attend the practice. The team members will rehearse their answers to whatever questions are thrown their way about the U.S. and Wyoming Constitutions, their long history and the documents’ application to present-day situations.

The rehearsal is a drop-in event, therefore members of the public are encouraged to attend anytime they can between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m.

SHERIDAN — The Jentel Artist Residency Program will host the next “Jentel Presents” Tuesday from 5:30-7 p.m. at the Sagebrush Community Art Center.

The program is free and open to all members of the community. Light refreshments will be available.

This month’s presenters include acrylic painter Andrew Hladky of Dexter, Michigan;  mixed media artist Hedieh Ilchi of Rockville, Maryland; multi-disciplinary artist J. Myszka Lewis of Madison, Wisconsin; fiction writer Emma Törzs of Minneapolis, Minnesota; short story writer Devin Symons of Washington, D.C.; and artist Karen Mobley of Spokane, Washington.

“Jentel Presents” is a community outreach program that features visual presentations and readings by the visual artists and writers at the residency.
