Landon’s Greenhouse and Nursery will offer two workshops Saturday.

At 10 a.m., guests from Sheridan’s African Violet Society will teach the ins and outs and secrets for success with one of the most popular blooming houseplants.

At 1 p.m., presenters will discuss different sprinkler systems and how to install them.

The workshops are free and open to the public, but advance registration is requested.

The topic is downsizing your life and will be presented by Amanda Lawson of Caring Transitions and Shelley Kinnison of Real Estate Rehab.

Landon’s workshops to feature herbs, houseplants

Landon’s Greenhouse and Nursery will host two workshops Saturday.

The first workshop, beginning at 10 a.m., will feature Courtney Kaplan of Piney Creek Pottery and Magpie Potions. Kaplan will discuss medicinal herbs.

At 1 p.m., Donald Legerski will discuss how to grow and maintain lush houseplants.

Both workshops are free and open to the public, but advance reservations are requested.

Sheridan County Chamber of Commerce luncheon @ Sheridan Holiday Inn

SHERIDAN — The Sheridan County Chamber of Commerce’s monthly luncheon will take place from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Sheridan Holiday Inn.

At the event, representatives from Cloud Peak Energy will discuss hurdles facing the energy industry. In addition, the graduates of the 2015 class of Leadership Sheridan County will be recognized.

The luncheon is open to the public. The cost is $15 per person for the lunch buffet.

Flu shot clinic @ Clearmont Elementary School

SHERIDAN — Sheridan County Public Health will host a series of flu clinics in Sheridan and the surrounding communities in October.

The cost is $30 per vaccine. Organizers are reminding individuals to bring their insurance cards as Public Health will bill most insurance companies.

The following is a list of flu clinic times and locations.

• Wednesday, Oct. 14 — 3-5 p.m., Clearmont Elementary School, 1601 Meade Ave., Clearmont

• Wednesday, Oct. 21 — 2-4 p.m., Big Horn Woman’s Club, 314 S. Second St.

• Friday, Oct. 23 — 8-10 a.m., Story Woman’s Club, 28 N. Piney Road

• Friday, Oct. 30 — 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., Sheridan County Public Health, 297 S. Main St.

Hill to read at Third Thursday Poets @ Sheridan Senior Center

Rose Hill, Wyoming’s current poet laureate, will take part in a poetry reading presented by the Third Thursday Poets on Thursday.

The event will take place in the community room at the Sheridan Senior Center beginning at 12:30 p.m. in observance of Poetry Day.

Members of the Third Thursday Poets include Janet Ashear, Charles Gibson, Aaron Holst, Rae Marie McReynolds, Renee Meador, Abbie Taylor, Joyce Clemens and Tonya Howe.

The reading Thursday will serve as a tribute to Bruce Anderson, a longtime member of the group who died Aug. 27 at the age of 92.

Third Thursday Poets have met monthly on the third Thursday of each month since 2006.

Hill’s reading is free and open to the public.

Powder River Basin Resource Council meeting, dinner @ Sheridan Holiday Inn

SHERIDAN — The Powder River Basin Resource Council will conduct its annual meeting and dinner Oct. 31 at the Holiday Inn in Sheridan.

At 3:45 p.m., Sheridan attorney Tom Toner will discuss land and mineral owners’ rights in the oil and gas bust.

A social hour, music, live and silent auctions and a 50/50 raffle will begin at 4:30 p.m.

Dinner will begin at 7 p.m. and will feature keynote speaker Andrew Nikiforuk. The award-winning Canadian journalist will present “Citizens’ Rights, Government Accountability and Big Oil.”

The cost to attend is $35 for PRBRC members and $45 for nonmembers.

Reservations should be made by Friday.

Community action forum on dementia @ Sheridan County YMCA

SHERIDAN — A community action forum regarding local efforts to create dementia-friendly communities will take place from 6:30-8 p.m. Wednesday.

The event will be held at the Sheridan County YMCA.

It is a culmination of five weeks of community study circles on creating dementia-friendly communities. The kickoff meeting was held in September.

The event Wednesday will focus on the action steps developed by the study circles.

SHERIDAN — The Big Horn Mountain Eagles annual pie auction fundraiser will take place Friday from 5:30-8:30 p.m.

Enjoy a dinner of homemade chili and cornbread beginning at 5:30 p.m.

At 7 p.m., the pie auction will take place.

The cost of the dinner is $6 per person. Kids age 5 and younger will eat for free.

All of the proceeds will benefit the Big Horn Mountain Eagles.
