Clients of the Easter Seals will host three fundraising car washes in Sheridan next week. On Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. all members of the community are invited to get a wash in the Walgreen’s parking lot. Swing for Smiles @ Powder Horn Golf Club

The 2nd annual “Swing for Smiles” golf tournament, to benefit the Give Kids The World Village, an annual project of the Perkins Family Restaurant chain, will be held at the Powder Horn Golf Club on Saturday. Dinner and a calcutta will be hosted Friday night preceding the tournament. On Saturday, shotgun start is at 10 a.m. with rounds going for approximately 4.5 hours. The derby will begin at 3 p.m. and awards will follow at 6 p.m. The tournament is a two person best ball. The cost to participate is $125 for club members and $200 for non-members. Tongue River Valley Community Center 5k Dayton Doggy Dash @ Tongue River Valley Community Center

DAYTON — The Tongue River Valley Community Center has organized a 5k Dayton Doggy Dash for 9 a.m. Saturday.

The race will take place on the streets of Dayton and will travel around the neighborhoods. Participants should bring their dogs, but remember the pets must be on a leash.

The cost to participate is $10 per person (dogs are free). A portion of the proceeds will benefit the Sheridan Dog and Cat Shelter.

To register for the event, stop by one of the TRVCC offices in Dayton or Ranchester or call 655-9419. Day-of registration will begin at 8:30 a.m.

Participants should meet at the TRVCC in Dayton, located at 1100 U.S. Highway 14 in Dayton.

Holy Name 80th annual carnival, chili supper @ Whitney Commons

Holy Name Catholic School will host its 80th annual carnival and chili supper Saturday.

The event will run from 3-7 p.m. in Whitney Commons.

It will include games, booths, a country store, slides, a bouncy house, dunk tank, toys, a cake walk, obstacle course and more.

Burgers, hot dogs, cinnamon rolls and a chili supper will also be available.

Tickets to participate in games and purchase food will be on sale at the event.

The carnival and supper are open to the public.

Powder River Basin Resource Council meeting, dinner @ Sheridan Holiday Inn

SHERIDAN — The Powder River Basin Resource Council will conduct its annual meeting and dinner Oct. 31 at the Holiday Inn in Sheridan.

At 3:45 p.m., Sheridan attorney Tom Toner will discuss land and mineral owners’ rights in the oil and gas bust.

A social hour, music, live and silent auctions and a 50/50 raffle will begin at 4:30 p.m.

Dinner will begin at 7 p.m. and will feature keynote speaker Andrew Nikiforuk. The award-winning Canadian journalist will present “Citizens’ Rights, Government Accountability and Big Oil.”

The cost to attend is $35 for PRBRC members and $45 for nonmembers.

SHERIDAN — The Big Horn Mountain Eagles annual pie auction fundraiser will take place Friday from 5:30-8:30 p.m.

Enjoy a dinner of homemade chili and cornbread beginning at 5:30 p.m.

At 7 p.m., the pie auction will take place.

The cost of the dinner is $6 per person. Kids age 5 and younger will eat for free.

All of the proceeds will benefit the Big Horn Mountain Eagles.

SHERIDAN — The United Methodist Women’s annual “Gingerbread Cookie House” will take place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the Kalif Shrine Center.

The church ladies will do the baking and you’ll have the chance to do the shopping and eating. More than 5,000 homemade cookies and candies will be available, including gluten-free and sugar-free varieties.

The cost of the goodies will be $6 per pound.

Dueling Duo fundraiser for Rotary @ Sheridan County Fairgrounds

SHERIDAN — The Rotary Club will host an all-request dueling piano duo for a fundraiser set for Jan. 22 at the Sheridan County Fairgrounds exhibit hall.

The Dueling Duo will sing and play attendee requests throughout the evening. The event will also include hors d’oeuvres, drinks and door prizes.

Doors open at 7 p.m. and the show will begin at 8 p.m.

Tickets are $50 in advance or $60 at the door. Tickets are available at Sheridan County Title or by calling Sasha Johnston at 672-6478.

The event is sponsored by the Sheridan Rotary Club, and proceeds will benefit the John W. Patton Memorial Project — a pavilion to be located at Rotary Park.

SHERIDAN — A kickoff event for the 2016 Relay for Life event will take place Tuesday from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the Black Tooth Brewing Company.

This year’s theme is “Toon out cancer.”

The kickoff event will include food, drinks and friends. Plus, $1 from every beer purchased will benefit Sheridan Relay for Life.

Prizes will be given for the Relay for Life team with the most teammates in attendance.

Dining for a Cause — Friends of the Library @ Frackelton's

SHERIDAN — The next “Dining for a Cause” event will take place Monday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 4-10 p.m.

During those times, 100 percent of Frackelton’s sales and gratuities will be donated to the Friends of the Library to help purchase books and materials for the Sheridan County Library System. Reservations are encouraged.

“We the People” chili supper, showcase @ Sheridan High School

SHERIDAN — On April 5, from 6-8 p.m., the Sheridan High School We the People team will host a chili supper and showcase at the high school.

Attendees to the event can meet the team, enjoy cinnamon rolls and chili and bid on silent auction items. The cost to attend is a suggested donation of $5.

In addition, the team will give a short presentation showcasing their knowledge for its upcoming competition.

The team will travel to the University of Maryland April 22-26 for the national competition. This is the third consecutive year the SHS team has won the state competition and moved on to nationals.

Each year, students raise money to attend the contest. The cost to attend this year is estimated at $53,000.

VOA empty bowl fundraiser @ Sheridan County Fairgrounds exhibit hall

SHERIDAN — The Volunteers of America annual “soup festival” fundraiser is planned for Thursday from 5-7:30 p.m. at the Sheridan County Fairgrounds exhibit hall.

All proceeds from the event will benefit the VOA Sheridan Community Homeless Shelter.

A wide variety of homemade soups prepared and served by different community churches and other organizations will be featured at the event. It will also include live music, face painting and games for the kids.

In addition, you get to take home your handcrafted soup bowl, made by community members.

The event is meant to imitate a “simple” dinner one might have at a soup kitchen. The bowls are taken home to serve as a reminder of homelessness.

Tickets for the event are available at the door. They cost $25 for families, $10 for adults and $5 for kids; children 5 and younger get in free.

Beaver Creek Slide to benefit homeless shelter @ Dahlin residence (Start)

SHERIDAN — The 13th annual Beaver Creek Slide and fourth annual Beaver Creek Bike Slog will take place May 7. The Sheridan Community Homeless Shelter, operated by Volunteers of America, will receive $12.50 of each individual’s entry fee.

Last year’s races had competitors from across Wyoming, Montana and South Dakota.

Races include a half marathon and 3.5-mile walk/run. The half marathon is a loop course covering primarily dirt and gravel roads along the scenic Big Horn Mountain foothills. The 3.5-mile course loops through Wild Turkey and Beaver Creek subdivisions. The courses are well marked and have aid stations.

Walkers for the half marathon start at 8 a.m. while runners start at 9 a.m. The 3.5 milers start at 10 a.m. Bike racers take the same course as the half marathon and do two loops starting at 8 a.m. Bikers should yield to runners and stay on the right side of the road while runners stay to the left.

Races will start at the Dahlin residence at 12 S. Sharptailed Road.

The entry fee is $30, payable to Wyoming Innovation. Entry forms can be picked up at the Sports Stop in Sheridan or via email by contacting bdahlin@wyoming.com.

Each entrant receives a long sleeved T-shirt. Lunch is provided, and door prizes will be drawn after the race. Awards go to the top three finishers in each race for men and women.

Harold Johnson Pickleball Tournament set for Saturday @ Thorne-Rider Park / YMCA

SHERIDAN — The first annual Harold Johnson Pickleball Tournament is set for Saturday, and it’s not too late to register to play.

All donations from the tournament go to the YMCA’s Give Your Heart to a Child campaign under Johnson’s name.

Weather permitting, the tournament will be played on the courts at Thorne-Rider Park. Should poor weather force the event inside, games will be played at the indoor facility at Thorne-Rider Park as well as the YMCA.

Methodist Men to host parking lot sale @ Sheridan Methodist

SHERIDAN — The Sheridan Methodist Men will hold a semi-annual parking lot sale May 14 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the parking lot at 215 W. Works St.

A lot of personal treasures, toys, kitchen wares, furniture and outdoor wares will be available. If you would like to donate items for the sale, contact the church office at 672-9779 weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to noon and 1-3:30 p.m. If you would like to rent a table to sell your own goods, contact the church. Spaces and tables are available for the cost of $15 for one table or two tables for $20.

The men’s group will also sell cinnamon rolls and coffee in the morning and hamburgers with chips and soda in the afternoon. The sale is a fundraiser for local and state mission projects.

Food, supply drive to benefit Cat Rescue @ Sheridan Motors

SHERIDAN — Girl Scout Troop 1266 will earn its bronze award by hosting a pet food and supply drive for the Second Chance Cat Rescue at Sheridan Motors from 9 a.m. to noon May 14.

The nonprofit organization is in need of dry cat food, moist cat food, cat litter, cat brushes, toys and treats, garbage bags, office supplies and cleaning supplies.

SHERIDAN — Holy Name Catholic School will host its annual Mayfest benefit fundraiser on May 14 from 6-10 p.m. at the Elks Lodge ballroom.

This year’s theme is “It Was 1980 Something.” Attire from the 1980s is encouraged.

The event will include live music from Side Track, a live auction, appetizers and cash bar.

Tickets to attend are $35 per person, available at the door. Advance reservations not needed.

VFW to celebrate Poppy Drive @ Sheridan Veterans Affairs Medical Center

SHERIDAN — The VFW Roy Eaton #1560 members will hold a Buddy Poppy drive Tuesday and Saturday.

On Tuesday, from 9 a.m. to noon, Buddy Poppies will be available at the Sheridan Veterans Affairs Medical Center. On Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon, they will be available at Kmart and Wal-Mart.

The red Buddy Poppy symbolizes the lives lost in war.

Donations will be accepted for the poppies. All proceeds raised will benefit veterans and their families.

Buddy Poppies are assembled in VA hospitals by veterans.

Wal-Mart is located at 1695 Coffeen Ave. Kmart is located at 2571 N. Main St.
