Auditions for “Laughter-Always the Best Medicine” @ Carriage House Theater

SHERIDAN — Director Pat Tomsovic will be holding open auditions for “Laughter-Always the Best Medicine,” a selection of seven one-act plays to be performed April 23-26 and April 30-May 3 at the Carriage House Theater.

Auditions will be March 1 at 2 p.m. and March 2 at 7 p.m.

Those who wish to audition will be reading directly from the scripts, so no preparation beforehand is necessary.

The plays to be performed include:

An optional dinner will also be served Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.

“Treasure in a Container” will take place at 10 a.m. Saturday at Landon’s Greenhouse. In this class participants will learn design techniques for hanging container gardens.

Janelle Gray will share the tips and techniques she uses when creating the hanging baskets found at Landon’s.

“What’s New, What’s Hot in Annuals and Veggies” will also be led by Gray at 1 p.m. Saturday.

In this fast-paced workshop, participants will learn the hottest trends and new products in 2015. Taking notes is recommended.

Live from The Met: ‘La Donna Del Lago’ @ WYO Theater

SHERIDAN — The WYO Theater will present “Live from The Met: Rossini’s ‘La Donna Del Lago’” on Saturday at 11 a.m.

The performance is one installation of the series “The Metropolitan Opera: Live in High-Definition,” which transmits opera performances to movie theaters and other venues around the world as part of The Metropolitan Opera’s efforts to reinvigorate opera and reach out to a broader public.

The program allows audiences to experience the production at the same time as the audience in New York.

“La Donna Del Lago” is set in the medieval Scottish highlands and based on a beloved novel by Sir Walter Scott. Joyce DiDonato is the “Lady of the Lake” of the title, and Juan Diego Florez is the king who relentlessly pursues her, their vocal fireworks embellishing the romantic plot.

Tickets are $18 for adults and $9 for students.

Applications due for Wyoming Wilderness Association Young Ambassadors for Wilderness program

SHERIDAN — The Wyoming Wilderness Association is launching its second year of the Young Ambassadors for Wilderness program.

The WWA is currently accepting applications from youth between 12-18 years of age.

With a curriculum geared toward young adults who are interested in becoming the next generation of wilderness leaders, in this program students will learn about the work that goes into protecting wild lands for future generations. Students will be presented with unique opportunities to work with professionals in the field, learn about the wilderness in their own backyards and complete a capstone project to present at the culmination of the program.

‘Preparing for the Resurrection’ workshop @ First Christian Church

SHERIDAN — First Christian Church and the Wyoming Association of Churches will host a biblically-grounded workshop, “Preparing for Resurrection,” on March 27.

The workshop, running from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., will be led by author and coach Rev. Rebekah Simon-Peter.

The workshop will take a deep look at how participants can prepare for resurrection by re-writing and renewing their own life stories. Participants will look at the memories, relationships and feelings that are disempowering them instead of empowering them. They’ll turn negative self-talk to positive renewal and action. They’ll also take a look at how they can let go of the attitudes and beliefs that are holding their spirits down, and celebrate spiritual release.

‘Staying Safe in Bear, Lion and Wolf Country’ workshop @ Dayton Town Hall

SHERIDAN — Would you know how to react if you were hiking in the Bighorn Mountains and you suddenly came upon a mountain lion or if you were camping and a black bear wandered into your camp? How about if you suddenly encountered a wolf or grizzly bear while hiking in Yellowstone National Park?

The Wyoming Game and Fish Department will host “Staying Safe in Bear, Lion and Wolf Country” workshops at 7 p.m. March 30 at the Dayton Town Hall and at 7 p.m. March 31 at the WGFD Regional Office in Sheridan.

Information and tools will be provided to participants that they can use to avoid dangerous encounters and prevent future conflicts.

“There is potential for human interactions with black bears and mountain lions on the east side of the Bighorns,” Sheridan Wildlife Biologist Tim Thomas said. “The Game and Fish Department wants people to understand how to reduce the potential for conflicts ensuring the safety of both humans and the animals.”

Presentations will feature behavior and biology, safety and legal issues, and focus on what to do in an encounter situation. Demonstrations about the proper use of bear spray will be presented. Information will also be provided on how to reduce the likelihood of an unwanted encounter.

Seminars are free and open to people of all ages and skill levels.
