Sheridan County logo design

From staff reports SHERIDAN— Sheridan County is launching a county-wide contest to design a new logo that represents the county in a unique and identifying way. Submissions will be accepted through Thursday, Aug. 7. The County Commission will select up to 10 semi-finalists to be presented to the public for voting. Finalists will each receive $50 in Chamber Bucks, and the contest winner will receive $250 in Chamber Bucks.

Kids’ art camp @ Sagebrush Community Art Center

SHERIDAN­— The Sagebrush Community Art Center is hosting a kids summer art camp for ages 8-12 from July 21-24 from 1-5 p.m. each day. There will be an acrylic painting class, jewelry making, ceramic painting, watercolor painting, and a picture frame making class. Registration is due by July 16, and each class costs $35. Trail maintenance in the wilderness

SHERIDAN — For the next event in a series of outings celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Wilderness Act of 1964 and the 30th anniversary of the Wyoming Wilderness Act of 1984, the Wyoming Wilderness Association will host a hike up Crystal Creek in the Gros Ventre Wilderness on July 24 to view nature at work. This includes an interpretive hike with Tim Farris as he explains backcountry trail maintenance. Hikers will learn how the Forest Service manages challenges in its trail maintenance program. Farmer’s Market with Mick Johnson Acoustic @ Grinnell Plaza

SHERIDAN — The annual Sheridan Farmers Market will commence Thursday at Grinnell Plaza. From 5-7 p.m. weekly on Thursdays vendors will sell produce, arts and crafts and more as live music, children’s activities, demonstrations and nonprofit booths are hosted. Attendance is free for customers and vendor booths are available to rent. This week features Mick Johnson Acoustic and youth activities. Kula’s ‘Flavor of the Week’ class @ Kula Space

SHERIDAN — In celebration of their fourth anniversary, the Kula Space will host “Flavor of the Week,” a weekly free class on Thursdays this summer at 5:30 p.m. Some of the free classes will request optional donations to support a local cause and suggestions of local causes to support are welcome. Climb Brooks Mountain @ Wyoming Wilderness Association

A moderate to strenuous hike, it leads to a breathtaking drop-off overlooking Brooks Lake and the DuNoir valley, with views of the Tetons. Bring a picnic lunch and spend time discussing the anniversary of wilderness areas The walk will be approximately eight miles roundtrip. Spur Ranch Fest

SHERIDAN— Join the Wyoming Wilderness Association for the Spur Ranch Fest Sunday for biking, live music, beer, and more. The event will run from 11 a.m. until 9 p.m. at 86 Peno Rd. and is a $10 entry free for adults, and children under 10 get in free. Goose Creek Cup @ Flying H Polo Club

BIG HORN— Join the Downtown Sheridan Association for the fifth annual Goose Creek Cup Sunday, 5 p.m., at the Flying H Polo Club on Bird Farm Road in Big Horn. Tailgating is encouraged at $10 per car, and there are events such as long ball contest and the champagne divot stomp. There will be an after party at 7 p.m. at the Big Horn Equestrian Center. Learn about forest service policies at ‘Wyoming Wednesday’ @ Wyoming Welcome Center

SHERIDAN — The Wyoming Office of Tourism will host the next event in a series of events called “Wyoming Wednesdays.” Informative and interpretive programs about Sheridan are being offered at 10 a.m. most Wednesdays throughout July at the Wyoming Welcome Center. At this week’s event, Cheri Jones of the United States Forest Service will talk about forest service policies and will focus on the Big Horn National Forest. The events are free and open to everyone. Attendees are encouraged to bring picnic lunches and stay and enjoy the visitor’s center before or after each program. The center is located off of Interstate 90 on the Fifth Street exit. Fitness highlight of Parkfit @ Kendrick Park

SHERIDAN — EMIT Technologies, the Recreation District and the Wellness Council have partnered to present ParkFit 2014. Every Wednesday throughout the summer from 12:10-12:50 p.m. a free fitness class will be offered at one of the local parks. The next session will be fitness by the YMCA at Kendrick Park.
