Auditions for “Laughter-Always the Best Medicine” @ Carriage House Theater

SHERIDAN — Director Pat Tomsovic will be holding open auditions for “Laughter-Always the Best Medicine,” a selection of seven one-act plays to be performed April 23-26 and April 30-May 3 at the Carriage House Theater.

Auditions will be March 1 at 2 p.m. and March 2 at 7 p.m.

Those who wish to audition will be reading directly from the scripts, so no preparation beforehand is necessary.

The plays to be performed include:

• “Supreme Beings Create the World” by Mo Gaffney and Kathy Najimy

• “Post-its” by Paul Dooley

• “Wanda’s Visit” by Christopher Durang

• “The Flying Wolimskies Return” by David Smilow

• “Rosa’s Eulogy” by Richard Strand

• “Chocolate” by Frederick Stroppel

• “The Blueberry Hill Accord” by Daryl Watson

Tomsovic will be assisted by veteran CTG director Norleen Healy. All interested actors are encouraged to attend.

Science Saturday – ‘Mysteries of Invisible Life’ @ Sheridan College Science Center

SHERIDAN — This weekend’s edition of Science Saturday on March 7 will focus on “Mysteries of Invisible Life.”

The event, sponsored by the Sheridan College Museum of Discovery and Science Kids, will run from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, March 7, at the Sheridan College Science Center.

Attendees will have the chance to explore minute and miniscule living organisms and discover how the microscopic can have humongous impacts on our health and environment.

Science Saturdays are free and open to children of all ages.

The Food Group Tacofest and Family Fun event @ Edward A. Whitney Academic Center at Sheridan College

SHERIDAN — The Food Group Tacofest and Family Fun event will be held Saturday, March 7, at 5:30 p.m. at Sheridan College.

The fundraiser will benefit children in Sheridan County who would otherwise go hungry over the weekends.

A taco dinner will be provided by Taco John’s and activities for the whole family will be featured.

The free event will be held in the atrium of the Edward A. Whitney Academic Center.

Donations to The Food Group will be accepted at the door.

‘Tween Challenge Takeover’ – Improvisational acting @ Sheridan County Fulmer Public Library

SHERIDAN — The Sheridan County Fulmer Public Library will continue to offer programming for “tweens” through April.

Organizers of the events said the programs were developed because many kids have outgrown children’s story time but aren’t quite ready for the teen section and are often overlooked.

The program, “Tween Challenge Takeover,” will include activities and experiments that will draw from the fields of science, technology, engineering, art, mathematics and the “maker-space” movement.

The programs will be on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:30-5 p.m. and are meant for kids in fifth through seventh grades.

The following is the schedule of activities planned through April.

March 10 and 12 — Improvisational acting

March 17 and 19 — Cooking

March 24 and 26 — Computer science

March 31 and April 2 — Pottery

April 7 and 9 — Scriptwriting

April 14 and 16 — DIY board game

April 21 and 23 — Fiber art

April 28 and 30 — Biodiversity

DAYTON — Tongue River High School students will perform an adaptation of the popular movie “Frozen” on March 10 and 11.

An optional dinner will also be served Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.

The cost for dinner is $10 per person or $35 per family.

The meal will be served by cast members of the production.

The free show will begin at 7 p.m. each night, though donations will be accepted at the door to support the TRHS music and drama programs.

The plays, “Hard Candy” and “Drugs Are Bad,” will be performed at the Fort Mackenzie High School, currently located in the old Highland Park School.

Tickets are $7 for adults and $5 for children. Tickets can be reserved by calling 673-8730 and will also be sold at the door.

Live from The Met: ‘La Donna Del Lago’ @ WYO Theater

SHERIDAN — The WYO Theater will present “Live from The Met: Rossini’s ‘La Donna Del Lago’” on Saturday at 11 a.m.

The performance is one installation of the series “The Metropolitan Opera: Live in High-Definition,” which transmits opera performances to movie theaters and other venues around the world as part of The Metropolitan Opera’s efforts to reinvigorate opera and reach out to a broader public.

The program allows audiences to experience the production at the same time as the audience in New York.

“La Donna Del Lago” is set in the medieval Scottish highlands and based on a beloved novel by Sir Walter Scott. Joyce DiDonato is the “Lady of the Lake” of the title, and Juan Diego Florez is the king who relentlessly pursues her, their vocal fireworks embellishing the romantic plot.

Tickets are $18 for adults and $9 for students.

Behind the scenes, Tidbit Saturday @ Sheridan County Museum

SHERIDAN — The staff of the Sheridan County Museum has invited the public to get a special look behind the scenes at the museum Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Attendees will get a peek at upcoming exhibits and programs when they drop by anytime during the four-hour period.

A Tidbit Saturday program will also be held at 10 a.m. for younger visitors.

The events are free and open to the public, but advance reservations are requested for those planning to participate in the Tidbit program.

Easter Bunny Princess Pageant @ Sheridan Wesleyan Church

SHERIDAN — An Easter Bunny Princess Pageant will be held March 28 from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Sheridan Wesleyan Church.

The pageant is open to girls from birth to 15 years of age.

Contestants should sign up at the door and it is free to enter the competition. Contestants should bring a party dress and photo. Those ages 3-15 years of age should also bring casual wear.

Contestants are also encouraged to bring approximately 30 small “good luck” gifts to put in other contestants’ bags.

For those contestants wishing to participate in the talent competition, the cost is $15.

Admission for spectators is $10.
