SCSD 2 final Kindergarten screening

SHERIDAN— Sheridan County School District 2 is holding a second opportunity for Kindergarten screening. All Kindergarten parents are urged to have their child attend this screening if they did not do so in April. Appointments can be made by calling 674-7405, extension 5105 no later than August 8. You can register your child for Kindergarten is Sheridan School District 2 at the screening. Parents and guardians need to bring a birth certificate and immunization records to the registration. “Baby with the Bathwater” @ Carriage House Theatre

SHERIDAN — A new local theater group, the Off-Kilter Fellowship, will present six editions of “Baby With the Bathwater,” July 31- August 2 and August 7-9 nightly at 7:30 p.m. The dark comedy about how difficult it is to be a parent and how scary it is to be a baby is directed by Jacob Claytor and features Carol Nowakowski, Jenn Smith, Donna Gifford, Savannah Hennigh and Garrett Key. The show is for mature audiences only due to strong language and sexual content. Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for students, seniors and military and will be sold at the door. Artist reception at the library @ Sheridan County Fulmer Public Library

SHERIDAN— The Sheridan Fulmer Library is featuring two art exhibits in the month of August. In the Inner Circle, local artist Daniel Granger will have his first public exhibit. Granger experiments in several mediums, including ink, fountain pen, pencil drawings, acrylic paint and wax. An artist reception for Granger will be held in the Inner Circle from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday. The library is located at 335 W. Alger St.

SHERIDAN— The next Sheridan Farmers Market will be held Thursday on Grinnell Plaza. From 5-7 p.m. vendors will sell produce, arts and crafts and more as live music, children’s activities, demonstrations and nonprofit booths are hosted. This week’s activities include a watermelon eating contest, homemade pie contest, rooster crowing contest, a market basket raffle and a beer and wine garden. Attendance is free for customers and vendor booths are available to rent. SHERIDAN — In celebration of their fourth anniversary, the Kula Space will host “Flavor of the Week,” a weekly free class on Thursdays this summer at 5:30 p.m. Some of the free classes will request optional donations to support a local cause and suggestions of local causes to support are welcome. This week’s class will be Barre Body with Michele. Sign-up is required and it is limited to 12. Donations will benefit The Food Group. SHERIDAN— Help the Sheridan Jaycees raise funds to prevent malaria in Africa. On Thursday, August 7, there will be family fun at Kendrick Park starting at 6 p.m. There will be live entertainment from the Boot Hill band, dance lessons, silent auction, food vendors, and adult beverages. This is a fundraiser for Nothing but Nets, an international organization that supplies bed nets to African families. The event is free, but donations are appreciated. Two-day hike highlights WWA this week

SHERIDAN — For the next event in a series of outings celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Wilderness Act of 1964 and the 30th anniversary of the Wyoming Wilderness Act of 1984, the Wyoming Wilderness Association will host a workshop and campout in the Cloud Peak Wilderness. On Friday, hikers will gather and camp at the Paint Rock Ranger Station and then hike out of the Paint Rock and Medicine Lodge Lakes Saturday. A Leave-No-Trace Awareness will be led by Lead Wilderness Ranger Donna Wilson. Bring a picnic lunch and plan to spend time discussing the anniversary of wilderness areas. NSI Fall Festival @ NSI Academy

SHERIDAN— The NSI Academy presents their fall fest Friday August 8 and Saturday August 9. On Friday there will be a Pig Spit BBQ and live music by The Craft Brothers starting at 6 p.m. On Saturday at 9 a.m., there will be a 5k Color Run that you can register online for. There will also be a lunch and a duck race. Both days will feature musical performances by the student body and inflatables for the whole family. This event is free and open to the public, but donations are welcome to establish a performing arts program at NSI Academy. The NSI Academy is located at 5 Lane Ln. Taste of Sheridan @ Thorne-Rider Park

Jogging and Fitness are in focus for Parkfit @ Kendrick Park

SHERIDAN — EMIT Technologies, the Recreation District and the Wellness Council have partnered to present ParkFit 2014. Every Wednesday throughout the summer from 12:10-12:50 p.m. a free fitness class will be offered at one of the local parks. Youth garden is ready to harvest

SHERIDAN — Sheridan College will hold their next Youth Garden activity Thursday from 9 a.m. until noon.

Children and their families are invited to harvest their garden, and learn how to handle fresh vegetables.

Participants should wear sunblock, bring garden gloves, and plan on getting a little dirty.

Superheroes in the park @ Kendrick Park

SHERIDAN— Easter Seals, RENEW, and Eagle Ridge present “Superheroes in the Park” Friday at Kendrick Park. From 10 a.m.-2 p.m. attendees are encouraged to come in a superhero costume, either a known superhero, or one of their own design, and enjoy games and a free lunch. There will also be inflatable slides, a superhero parade, and a photo booth. All programs provide for individuals with developmental disabilities or acquired brain injuries. Live readers’ theater presentation of ‘Wireless’ @ Carriage House Theatre

SHERIDAN— The Trail End Guilds present ‘Wireless’, a live readers’ theater from the golden age of radio.

There will be five skits, including ‘The Bickersons’ and ‘Jack Armstrong, All American Boy’.

All proceeds benefit the Kendrick Mansion and the Trail End Guilds.

Performances are August 15 and 16 at 7 p.m. and August 17 at 2 p.m.

Prices are $15 adults and $12 for kids 17 and under.

SHERIDAN—The Sheridan College Theater Department is proud to present a theatrical double feature of William Shakespeare’s “Hamlet” and Gerry Hansen’s Commedia dell’Arte play “Ros & Guild”. At the new Mars Theater August 15-24. Shows are at 7 p.m. Mondays-Saturdays and at 2 p.m. on Sundays. The second feature of the evening is Gerry Hansen’s new farce “Ros and Guild,” which places Shakespeare’s “Hamlet” in the topsy-turvy world of Commedia. Both plays are directed by Hansen, whose nimble staging sets the iconic “Hamlet” up so that it can be punched squarely in the funny bone by “Ros and Guild.” Tickets are available at the WYO Theater box office at 672-9084 or www.wyotheater.com. CHAPS volunteer training @ Chaps barn

SHERIDAN— CHAPS Equine Assisted Therapy is having their third trimester volunteer training. Designed originally to serve children and adults with special needs with Therapeutic Riding, the CHAPS program has expanded to offer equine assisted activities and equine facilitated learning for Veterans from the Sheridan VA Medical Center and at-risk youth from Fort MacKenzie High School. The volunteer training will be on Saturday, August 16 from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. It will be held at the CHAPS barn at 501 Highway 14 East. For more information call 673-6161.
