COPE classes beginning Tuesday @ Holiday Inn

SHERIDAN—Judy Olson, director of COPE, “Counseling in Overcoming Painful Emotions”, will be starting a nine week program sponsored by Kane Funeral Home. COPE is an aftercare program designed to help deal with overcoming the loss of a loved one and gain support from others in the community experiencing the same type of grief. Landon’s workshops @ Landon's Greenhouse

SHERIDAN—The Kendrick Mansion at Trail End State Historic Site will open its doors free of charge for ticket holders on Saturday, as part of Smithsonian Magazine’s tenth annual Museum Day Live! nationwide event. Museum Day Live! offers free admission to visitors presenting a Museum Day Live! ticket at a participating museum or cultural institution. The Museum Day Live! tickets are now available to download at Smithsonian.com/museumdaylive. Visitors who present the Museum Day Live! ticket will gain free entrance for two at a participating venue for one day only. One ticket is permitted per household, per email address. Fiber Arts Guild reception @ Sheridan County Fulmer Public Library

SHERIDAN— The Sheridan Fiber Arts Guild will hold their annual show at Sheridan Fulmer Library Oct. 3 through Oct. 30 on the mezzanine.

The show features a variety of fiber arts mediums including quilting, felting, embroidery, cross stitch and knitting from local fiber artists.

‘Jentel Presents’ @ Sagebrush Community Art Center

SHERIDAN—Jentel Artist Residency Program is pleased to present this month’s residents in an event open to the public. “Jentel Presents” will take place Tuesday, October 7, from 5:30 -7 p.m. at Sagebrush Community Art Center, on the corner of 5th and Broadway.

This month’s presenters include a photographer, a creative non-fiction writer, a mixed media/collage artist, a sculptor, an encaustic artist and an essayist. “Jentel Presents” is a community outreach program that features visual presentations and readings by the visual artists and writers at the residency. Presenters include: Shigeki Yoshida, a photographer; Charlotte Austin, a creative nonfiction writer; Naomi Reis, a mixed media/collage artist; Emily Dunlap, a sculptor; Jane Guthridge, an encaustic artist; and Renee Restivo, an essayist.

Cemetery tours

SHERIDAN— The Sheridan County Museum is hosting tours of the Sheridan Municipal Cemetery. These tours will explore the community’s past by venturing to the final resting places of some of its most famous or infamous citizens. The Cemetery Tours will be held on Sunday, at 4 p.m. and then again on Wednesday, Oct. 15 at 4:30 p.m. and Saturday, Oct. 18 at 2 p.m. Tour admission is $5 per person and due to content, and the tours are limited to ages 13 and above. Suicide prevention training @ Sheridan County Chamber of Commerce training room

SHERIDAN — The Sheridan County Suicide Prevention Coalition will offer free training Thursday from 10 a.m. to noon.

The QPR training will teach individuals to recognize the warning signs of a suicide crisis and how to question, persuade and refer someone to help.

Refreshments will be provided.

Space for the training is limited, therefore organizers ask those planning to attend to sign up by calling the Sheridan Suicide Prevention Coalition.

The training will be held at the Sheridan County Chamber of Commerce training room, located at 171 N. Main St.

Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program @ Sheridan College Griffith Memorial Building, room 10

SHERIDAN — It’s almost tax season and students and faculty in the Sheridan College business department will offer the free Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program again this year.

The program, which is a branch of the Wyoming Free Tax Service, will meet at Sheridan College’s Griffith Memorial Building, room 10. The scheduled times are Feb. 27, March 7, March 13, March 28, April 10 and April 11, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Drop-ins are welcome, however, appointments take priority. Call 674-6446 for an appointment.

The program offers assistance with relatively simple tax returns, including itemized deductions, interest, dividends, small businesses (under $10,000 of expenses), unemployment, tuition and fees, earned income credit, educational credits and much more. Generally, the income limit is $65,000 or less, but if the returns are simple, the amount can be expanded.

“This is always a great opportunity for the Sheridan College business department to help community members get a head-start on their taxes,” SC business instructor Tracy Dearinger said.

Participants are required to bring the following: all Social Security cards for taxpayer and all dependents, photo ID for taxpayer and spouse, all W-2s, 1099s, 1098-Ts, mortgage interest statements, real estate tax statements, medical expenses receipts, any charitable contributions receipts, proof of insurance if you have it, and any other document pertaining to taxes.

Clients without Social Security cards or photo IDs will be turned away.

Landon’s Greenhouse workshop on indoor gardening @ Landon's Greenhouse and Nursery

SHERIDAN — Landon’s Greenhouse and Nursery will host a free workshop Saturday beginning at 11 a.m. on the adventures of indoor gardening.

Houseplants add so many benefits to homes but sometimes can be a tad overwhelming.

The workshop will include discussion on the basics of growing houseplants including light, temperature, watering and pest issues.

Landon’s will also be hosting its weekly farmers market from 9-11 a.m.

Sheridan College annual employee art exhibit opening reception @ Martinsen Gallery in the Edward A. Whitney Academic Center

SHERIDAN — The Sheridan College annual employee art exhibit opens March 3 in the Martinsen Gallery at the Edward A. Whitney Academic Center.

The show features photography, painting, quilting, ceramics, metalwork, fash- ion and folk art.

Awards will be given for people’s choice and best in show.

An opening reception will be held from 4:30-5:30 p.m. Tuesday. Hors d’oeu- vres will be served.

In addition, a raffle drawing will be held at 5 p.m. for a $100 gift certificate to Frackelton’s.

The exhibit will be on display through April 17.

Reception for Aaron Wuerker @ Sagebrush Community Art Center

SHERIDAN — An artist reception for Buffalo artist Aaron Wuerker will be held on Friday March 6 from 5-7 p.m. at the Sagebrush Community Art Center.

Wuerker’s show, “Aaron Wuerker: Recent Landscapes,” will be on display through March 31 in the center’s Invitational Gallery.

Wuerker earned a bachelor’s in fine arts from Kansas City Art Institute in 1992 and a master’s in fine arts from Yale University in 1995. He and his wife, Jenny, also a renowned artist, own the Crazy Woman Fine Art Gallery in Buffalo.

“My work has continually returned to a realist vision of the landscape,” Wuerker said. “I’m usually drawn to compositions where mechanized forms either mimic or contrast with the natural forms in the land.”

Composting workshop @ Landon's Greenhouse and Nursery

Then at 1 p.m., a workshop about planning and planting a kitchen herb garden will be featured.
