Learn about forest service policies at ‘Wyoming Wednesday’ @ Wyoming Welcome Center

SHERIDAN — The Wyoming Office of Tourism will host the next event in a series of events called “Wyoming Wednesdays.” Informative and interpretive programs about Sheridan are being offered at 10 a.m. most Wednesdays throughout July at the Wyoming Welcome Center. At this week’s event, Cheri Jones of the United States Forest Service will talk about forest service policies and will focus on the Big Horn National Forest. The events are free and open to everyone. Attendees are encouraged to bring picnic lunches and stay and enjoy the visitor’s center before or after each program. The center is located off of Interstate 90 on the Fifth Street exit. Grizzly bear ecology tour

SHERIDAN — For the next event in a series of outings celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Wilderness Act of 1964 and the 30th anniversary of the Wyoming Wilderness Act of 1984, the Wyoming Wilderness Association will host a Grizzly Bear ecology tour in the Shoshone National Forest. On Saturday, Chuck Neal, a retired U.S. Department of the Interior ecologist, will lead the group into grizzly bear country and teach the ecology and biology of the bears. Bring a picnic lunch and spend time discussing the anniversary of wilderness areas. The walk will be approximately 5 miles roundtrip, and is a steep uphill climb. Dowsing is a type of divination employed in attempts to locate ground water, buried metals or ores, gemstones, oil and many other objects and materials without the use of scientific apparatus.

Come to the convention and learn about dowsing and see it demonstrated and learn the technique. The special presenter will be Big Sky Dowser Charter Member Vern Bandy who will demonstrate dowsing rods he personally designed.

Professional Polo Announcer Gus Whitelaw will be at Brinton Barn @ Brinton Barn

BIG HORN— Professional polo announcer and young horse trainer Gus Whitelaw will be at the Brinton Barn in Big Horn Wednesday.

At 10 a.m. Whitelaw will give a horse demonstration and talk about training a young horse, getting a polo horse used to “traffic,” the polo ball, field work and other horse-related topics.

At 10 a.m. Jessica Bohnsack will guide participants through switching out their old summer pots, and replanting them with fall plants.

Attendees are asked to bring in their summer planters, dispose of them in Landon’s green waste container, and then have the opportunity to purchase new soil and fall plants.

There will be a fee for soil and plants used.

SHERIDAN— The Wyoming Department of Education will hold a public comment hearing in Sheridan Tuesday, Sept. 9. As required by statue, the WDE is seeking public comment on proposed changes and additions to the content standards in areas such as English, language arts and mathematics. There have also been additions for new standards in the content areas of social studies, physical education, and career and vocational education.
