SHERIDAN — EMIT Technologies, the Recreation District and the Wellness Council have partnered to present ParkFit 2014. Every Wednesday throughout the summer from 12:10-12:50 p.m. a free fitness class will be offered at one of the local parks. The next session will be “Fun and functional circuits” by PurEnergy Wednesday at Sheltered Acres. A full schedule of ParkFit events can be seen at www.wellnesscouncilsc.org. SHERIDAN — In celebration of their fourth anniversary, the Kula Space will host “Flavor of the Week,” a weekly free class on Thursdays this summer at 5:30 p.m. Some of the free classes will request optional donations to support a local cause and suggestions of local causes to support are welcome. Trail maintenance in the wilderness

SHERIDAN — For the next event in a series of outings celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Wilderness Act of 1964 and the 30th anniversary of the Wyoming Wilderness Act of 1984, the Wyoming Wilderness Association will host a hike up Crystal Creek in the Gros Ventre Wilderness on July 24 to view nature at work. This includes an interpretive hike with Tim Farris as he explains backcountry trail maintenance. Hikers will learn how the Forest Service manages challenges in its trail maintenance program. Climb Brooks Mountain @ Wyoming Wilderness Association

SHERIDAN — For the next event in a series of outings celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Wilderness Act of 1964 and the 30th anniversary of the Wyoming Wilderness Act of 1984, the Wyoming Wilderness Association will host a gradual climb to the top of Brooks Mountain. A moderate to strenuous hike, it leads to a breathtaking drop-off overlooking Brooks Lake and the DuNoir valley, with views of the Tetons. Bring a picnic lunch and spend time discussing the anniversary of wilderness areas The walk will be approximately eight miles roundtrip. Spur Ranch Fest

SHERIDAN— Join the Wyoming Wilderness Association for the Spur Ranch Fest Sunday for biking, live music, beer, and more. The event will run from 11 a.m. until 9 p.m. at 86 Peno Rd. and is a $10 entry free for adults, and children under 10 get in free. All proceeds will benefit the Wyoming Wilderness Association and Red Grade Trail Project. For more information call 672-8459.

Goose Creek Cup @ Flying H Polo Club

BIG HORN— Join the Downtown Sheridan Association for the fifth annual Goose Creek Cup Sunday, 5 p.m., at the Flying H Polo Club on Bird Farm Road in Big Horn. Tailgating is encouraged at $10 per car, and there are events such as long ball contest and the champagne divot stomp. There will be an after party at 7 p.m. at the Big Horn Equestrian Center. 3-D Archery Shoot

SHERIDAN— The Sheridan County Sportsmans Association will hold a 3-D archery shoot Saturday and Sunday at 8 a.m.  The family friendly event will be at Bear Lodge and costs $10 per shooter. If you want to shoot for competition, the cost is $20. There will be food and drinks available. The lodge is located at 5600 U.S. 14 in Dayton. Never Flinch Summer Slam @ Sheridan YMCA

SHERIDAN— The Never Flinch annual Summer Slam will be on Saturday, August 2 at 8 a.m. at the Sheridan YMCA. The annual Summer Slam is a 3-on-3, co-ed grass volleyball tournament that will help raise funds for the Weston Johnson Memorial Scholarship. Grizzly bear ecology tour

SHERIDAN — For the next event in a series of outings celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Wilderness Act of 1964 and the 30th anniversary of the Wyoming Wilderness Act of 1984, the Wyoming Wilderness Association will host a Grizzly Bear ecology tour in the Shoshone National Forest. On Saturday, Chuck Neal, a retired U.S. Department of the Interior ecologist, will lead the group into grizzly bear country and teach the ecology and biology of the bears. Bring a picnic lunch and spend time discussing the anniversary of wilderness areas. The walk will be approximately 5 miles roundtrip, and is a steep uphill climb. Harold Johnson Cancer Benefit @ Elks Lodge

SHERIDAN— The Elks Lodge will hold a fundraiser for Harold Johnson to help raise money for his cancer challenge. From 4-6p.m. on Saturday there will be a dinner, live music, and an auction. Nothing but nets @ Kendrick Park

SHERIDAN— Help the Sheridan Jaycees raise funds to prevent malaria in Africa. On Thursday, August 7, there will be family fun at Kendrick Park starting at 6 p.m. There will be live entertainment from the Boot Hill band, dance lessons, silent auction, food vendors, and adult beverages. This is a fundraiser for Nothing but Nets, an international organization that supplies bed nets to African families. The event is free, but donations are appreciated. Two-day hike highlights WWA this week

SHERIDAN — For the next event in a series of outings celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Wilderness Act of 1964 and the 30th anniversary of the Wyoming Wilderness Act of 1984, the Wyoming Wilderness Association will host a workshop and campout in the Cloud Peak Wilderness. On Friday, hikers will gather and camp at the Paint Rock Ranger Station and then hike out of the Paint Rock and Medicine Lodge Lakes Saturday. A Leave-No-Trace Awareness will be led by Lead Wilderness Ranger Donna Wilson. Bring a picnic lunch and plan to spend time discussing the anniversary of wilderness areas. NSI Fall Festival @ NSI Academy

SHERIDAN— The NSI Academy presents their fall fest Friday August 8 and Saturday August 9. On Friday there will be a Pig Spit BBQ and live music by The Craft Brothers starting at 6 p.m. On Saturday at 9 a.m., there will be a 5k Color Run that you can register online for. There will also be a lunch and a duck race. Both days will feature musical performances by the student body and inflatables for the whole family. This event is free and open to the public, but donations are welcome to establish a performing arts program at NSI Academy. The NSI Academy is located at 5 Lane Ln. SHERIDAN— Pedigree and GreaterGood have teamed up to give selected shelters across the nation a makeover.

The Sheridan Dog and Cat Shelter has been selected to receive renovation, and needs volunteers to help finish the project.

The renovations will begin Aug. 23 and 24 at 9 a.m.
