Wyoming Archaeological Society meeting @ Le Gourmet Room at the Sheridan Holiday Inn

The Sheridan-Johnson County chapter of the Wyoming Archaeological Society will meet Thursday.

Commencing at 6 p.m. in the Le Gourmet Room at the Sheridan Holiday Inn, the meeting is free and open to everyone.

Dinner can be order from the menu but is not required to attend.

At approximately 7:15 p.m. Forest Service Archaeologist Pat Bower will give a presentation regarding his archaeological work on Easter Island.

Reservations are not required to attend.

Get Acquainted Tea @ Inner Circle in Sheridan Fulmer Public Library

The Friendship Club of Sheridan (formerly the Sheridan Newcomers Club) will host a Get Acquainted Tea on Feb. 7.

From 10 a.m. to noon at the Inner Circle in Sheridan Fulmer Public Library women of all ages are welcome to enjoy punch or tea and cookies.

The tea is a chance to get to know the group, which meets for lunch the fourth Thursday of every month and offers subgroups including a book club, a Bunco group, a Pinochle group and the potential for future additions like a walking group.

Alzheimer’s Association rally @ Historic Plains Hotel

The national Alzheimer’s Association is hosting a rally for its Wyoming volunteers and the general public on Feb. 15.

The event will take place at the Historic Plains Hotel at Central Avenue and Lincolnway in Cheyenne from 9 a.m. to noon.

Participants will be treated to a complimentary breakfast, lunch, give-aways and door prizes.

There will also be a support group offered during the event so caregivers, their loved ones, and volunteers from throughout the state are encouraged to attend.

Agenda topics will include the Alzheimer’s epidemic in Wyoming,, the latest research findings, services and support the association offers, public policy and special events in local communities and the association’s future plans for the state.

The disease affects 10,000 people in Wyoming and its impact extends to additional thousands of friends and family members.

Birding at the Brinton @ The Brinton Museum

The Brinton Museum, Science Kids and the Big Horn Audubon will present the next monthly “Birding at the Brinton” on Saturday.

This free morning of bird watching will run from 9-11 a.m at The Brinton Museum.

The Sheridan County Historical Society will host Veronica Hagemann on Wednesday. Hagemann will discuss the archival project at the Wyoming Girls School. The program is free and open to the general public. The event will commence at 7 p.m. and coffee and cookies will be served. The Sheridan chapter of AARP will host a meeting Friday. The program will include a potluck, a summary of the Soup-er Bowl Food Drive, a proposal of a new summer outreach activity to be organized by the chapter and bingo. The event is free and open to everyone. Attendees are asked to bring their own place settings and a covered dish to share, and the chapter will provide fried chicken. Behind the Scenes Saturday @ Sheridan County Museum

The Sheridan County Museum will present “Behind the Scenes Saturday” on Saturday. This free event is open to all with no reservations required. The museum will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. for a behind-the-scenes view at the museum’s operations. The public is invited to come and see what goes on at the museum when the galleries are closed. Attendees will see how employees take down old exhibits, care for the items entrusted to the museum and prepare new items and galleries for new exhibits. There will also be Tidbit activities for children and parents. The museum is located at 850 Sibley Circle, off of the Fifth Street exit of Interstate 90. For more information call 675-1150.

Free zumba open house @ Zumba Fitness

Zumba Fitness will host an open house with free zumba on Saturday. The open house is a celebration of their first year in the new location and their expansion in to nutritional support and health coaching. The Big Horn Historical Society will host a potluck and program Sunday. The free meeting is open to all members of the community. The potluck will begin at 1 p.m. at the Big Horn Woman’s Club clubhouse. Attendees are asked to bring a dish to share. SCLT open house @ Historic Sheridan Inn

The Sheridan Community Land Trust will host their 2014 annual open house on Feb. 27.

From 5-8 p.m. at the Historic Sheridan Inn, Polish appetizers and music will be offered in honor of the completion of the Black Diamond Historic Byway.

Mike Kuzara, a one-man polka band, will perform and attendees will have the opportunity to listen to the Byway audio tour.

The 2013 annual report and 2014 upcoming projects will also be presented.

Raffles winners will also be drawn.

Following dinner at approximately 7:15 p.m. Forest Service archaeologist Bill Matthews will present an update on his fieldwork in the Big Horn Mountains over the past three years. Attendees not desiring dinner may arrive at this time. Matthews and a group of volunteers recorded over 30 prehistoric sites as well as a turn of the century mining district, specifically in the Cloud Peak Wilderness. Parent Partnership meeting @ Sheridan High School library

Roller Derby meet and greet @ Big Horn Mountain Eagles #4169

Sheridan’s first local roller derby league, the Bomber Mountain Derby Devils, is hosting a recruitment meet and greet event on Wednesday for the newly formed women’s team. Commencing at 6 p.m. at the Big Horn Mountain Eagles #4169 refreshments will be served and attendees will learn more about roller derby including participation requirements. The league, which is seeking non-profit status, hopes to offer men’s and youth teams in the future, offering new activities and family entertainment options as other area teams and their fans visit Sheridan for competitions. BILLINGS— The Big Sky Dowser will meet at its 37th annual convention from Aug. 23-24 at the Moose Lodge in Billings, Mont.

Dowsing is a type of divination employed in attempts to locate ground water, buried metals or ores, gemstones, oil and many other objects and materials without the use of scientific apparatus.

Come to the convention and learn about dowsing and see it demonstrated and learn the technique. The special presenter will be Big Sky Dowser Charter Member Vern Bandy who will demonstrate dowsing rods he personally designed.

Backcountry Horsemen Meeting
