Wyoming Archaeological Society meeting @ Le Gourmet Room at the Sheridan Holiday Inn

The Sheridan-Johnson County chapter of the Wyoming Archaeological Society will meet Thursday.

Commencing at 6 p.m. in the Le Gourmet Room at the Sheridan Holiday Inn, the meeting is free and open to everyone.

Dinner can be order from the menu but is not required to attend.

At approximately 7:15 p.m. Forest Service Archaeologist Pat Bower will give a presentation regarding his archaeological work on Easter Island.

Reservations are not required to attend.

Get Acquainted Tea @ Inner Circle in Sheridan Fulmer Public Library

The Friendship Club of Sheridan (formerly the Sheridan Newcomers Club) will host a Get Acquainted Tea on Feb. 7.

From 10 a.m. to noon at the Inner Circle in Sheridan Fulmer Public Library women of all ages are welcome to enjoy punch or tea and cookies.

The tea is a chance to get to know the group, which meets for lunch the fourth Thursday of every month and offers subgroups including a book club, a Bunco group, a Pinochle group and the potential for future additions like a walking group.

Live from The Met: Dvorak’s ‘Rusalka’ @ WYO Theater

The WYO Theater will present “Live from The Met: Dvorak’s ‘Rusalka’” on Feb. 8 at 11 a.m.

The performance is part of the series “The Metropolitan Opera: Live in High-Definition” which transmits opera performances to movie theaters and other venues around the world as part of The Metropolitan Opera’s efforts to reinvigorate opera and reach out to a broader public.

The program allows audiences to experience the production at the same time as the audience in New York.

“Rusalka” stars Renee Fleming in one of her signature roles alongside Piotr Beczala, Dolora Zajick and maestro Yannick Nezet-Seguin. Tickets are $18 for adults and $9 for students. Warriors Don’t Cry @ WYO Theater

The Bushnell Center will present “Warriors Don’t Cry” at the WYO Theater on Wednesday. Part of the Children’s Education and Family series at the theater, the play tells the story of the Little Rock Nine who risked their lives in 1957 to end segregation at Central High School. The play received the American Library Association award, 1995 Nonfiction Book of the Year award and the Robert F. Kennedy Book award. The performance will commence at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $14 for adults, $8 for students and $5 for children ages 12 and younger. Alzheimer’s Association rally @ Historic Plains Hotel

The national Alzheimer’s Association is hosting a rally for its Wyoming volunteers and the general public on Feb. 15.

The event will take place at the Historic Plains Hotel at Central Avenue and Lincolnway in Cheyenne from 9 a.m. to noon.

Participants will be treated to a complimentary breakfast, lunch, give-aways and door prizes.

There will also be a support group offered during the event so caregivers, their loved ones, and volunteers from throughout the state are encouraged to attend.

Agenda topics will include the Alzheimer’s epidemic in Wyoming,, the latest research findings, services and support the association offers, public policy and special events in local communities and the association’s future plans for the state.

Attendees are asked to RSVP by Monday to Glenda Berry at gberry@alz.org or to Anne Aquin at 550-3618.

The disease affects 10,000 people in Wyoming and its impact extends to additional thousands of friends and family members.

Birding at the Brinton @ The Brinton Museum

The Brinton Museum, Science Kids and the Big Horn Audubon will present the next monthly “Birding at the Brinton” on Saturday.

This free morning of bird watching will run from 9-11 a.m at The Brinton Museum.

The Monster Who Ate My Peas @ WYO Theater

The WYO Theater will host “The Monster Who Ate My Peas” on Feb. 18.

Based on the multi-award winning book written by Danny Schnitzlein and illustrated by Matthew Faulkner, this musical play is part of the Children’s Educational and Family series.

Commencing at 6:30 p.m., the performance will tell the story of a young boy who doesn’t want to eat his peas so he makes a deal with a monster to give the creature anything he wants if he’ll eat the boy’s peas.

Tickets are $14 for adults, $8 for students and $5 for children ages 12 and under.

Sheridan County Historical Society program @ Downtown Sheridan Association Community Room

The Sheridan chapter of AARP will host a meeting Friday. The program will include a potluck, a summary of the Soup-er Bowl Food Drive, a proposal of a new summer outreach activity to be organized by the chapter and bingo. The event is free and open to everyone. Attendees are asked to bring their own place settings and a covered dish to share, and the chapter will provide fried chicken. Stars of Tomorrow @ WYO Theater

SHERIDAN — The Kiwanis will host “Stars of Tomorrow” Feb. 21.

This youth talent show will present children in three categories: elementary, junior high and high school.

First-, second- and third-place winners in each category will receive a trophy and a certificate.

There will also be an overall winner who will receive a scholarship toward the college of their choice and is given the opportunity to compete at the district level.

The show will commence at 7 p.m. at the WYO Theater located at 42 N. Main St.

Tickets for the performance are $8 for adults, $5 for students under age 18 and free for children five years old and younger.

Big Horn Historical Society potluck and program @ Big Horn Woman’s Club clubhouse

The Big Horn Historical Society will host a potluck and program Sunday. The free meeting is open to all members of the community. Live from The Met: Borodin’s ‘Prince Igor’ @ WYO Theater

SHERIDAN — The WYO Theater will present “Live from The Met: Borodin’s ‘Prince Igor’” on Saturday at 10 a.m.

Sheridan College Wind Ensemble and Jazz Ensemble concerts @ Big Horn High School auditorium

The Sheridan College Wind Ensemble and Jazz Ensemble will perform their third of four concerts this year on Sunday. Directed by Dr. Michal P. Flynn, the theme of the concert will be “Music from the James Bond franchise.” The concerts will be held at the Big Horn High School auditorium. Admission is free and the public is encouraged to attend. Dr. Flynn will be discussing the works to be presented prior to the performance. The discussion will commence at 6 p.m. and the concert at 7 p.m. Clips from the James Bond films will play while the wind ensemble performs and guest artists Tawni Shuler and Hannah Gilbert will create live art during the performance of “Le Champ de Bataille,” a piece written by Sheridan College faculty member Dr. Chris Erickson. A Dinner Theater Event: Tangled @ Tongue River High School auditorium

The Tongue River High School theater department will present “A Dinner Theater Event: Tangled” tonight.

“Tangled,” the Disney story staring Rapunzel, will be adapted and performed by TRHS students in the school auditorium.

The play will be presented for free to the entire community at 7 p.m.

Prior to the performance a fundraiser spaghetti dinner will be served.

Dinner will be served at 6 p.m. and cots $15 per plate or $40 per family.

Sheridan High School Jazz Band concert @ Sue Henry Auditorium at Sheridan High School

The Sheridan High School Jazz Band will perform their Festival Concert on Tuesday. The band will be playing songs which they will be performing at the Kinser Jazz Festival in Casper and the Northwest Jazz Festival in Powell later this year. The performance will commence at 7 p.m. at the Sue Henry Auditorium of SHS. The concert is free and open to the public. Performances will include pieces such as “Solar and Nardis” by Miles Davis and “I’m Beginning to See the Light” by Duke Ellington, and will be directed by Diane Knutson. TEG sponsors at least one major event each year, the Holiday Open House during the first weekend of December.

Membership dues start at $5 a year and meetings are typically held monthly on the second Tuesday.

Murder Twice Baked @ Carriage House Theater

The Fort Mackenzie High School drama department will present “Murder Twice Baked” on Thursday and Friday. The musical whodunit by Bruce Scigliano and George Krawczyk will be performed at the Carriage House Theater. Tickets will be sold at the door at a cost of $7 for adults and $5 for non-FMHS students.
