Brent Spink artist’s reception @ Sheridan County Fulmer Public Library

Local artist Brent Spink will present his art throughout February at Sheridan County Fulmer Public Library beginning with an artist’s reception on Saturday.

The reception will be in The Inner Circle from 1-3 p.m.

Spink is originally from Missoula, Mont. and his primary medium is oil paintings.

He currently lives and works just north of Sheridan in the Wolf Teeth Mountains.

Warriors Don’t Cry @ WYO Theater

The Bushnell Center will present “Warriors Don’t Cry” at the WYO Theater on Wednesday. Part of the Children’s Education and Family series at the theater, the play tells the story of the Little Rock Nine who risked their lives in 1957 to end segregation at Central High School. The play received the American Library Association award, 1995 Nonfiction Book of the Year award and the Robert F. Kennedy Book award. The performance will commence at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $14 for adults, $8 for students and $5 for children ages 12 and younger. The Sheridan Artists’ Guild, Et al (SAGE) will host an artist’s reception and gallery talk on Thursday.

From 5:30-7 p.m. the public is welcome to visit the gallery and enjoy refreshments as SAGE presents “Cowboy Country: Photographs by Mary and Arthur ‘Pete’ Dailey” which is on display now.

The SAGE Exhibit Gallery is located inside Sheridan College Main Street at 171 N. Main St.

The exhibit will run through the end of the month.

Birding at the Brinton @ The Brinton Museum

The Brinton Museum, Science Kids and the Big Horn Audubon will present the next monthly “Birding at the Brinton” on Saturday.

This free morning of bird watching will run from 9-11 a.m at The Brinton Museum.

Moments of Seeing: The Art of Teresa Jordan and Chessney Sevier @ Ucross Foundation Art Gallery

SHERIDAN — A new exhibit is opening at the Ucross Foundation Art Gallery on Feb. 15 and an artist’s reception will be held.
“Moments of Seeing: The Art of Teresa Jordan and Chessney Sevier” will feature monotypes and hand-colored monotypes by Jordan and paintings and intaglio etchings by Sevier.
The reception will run from 3-5 p.m. and will include a special performance in the Barn Loft at 4 p.m. featuring music and stories by Jordan and her husband, Hal Cannon, the executive director of the Western Folklife Center and National Poetry Gathering in Elko, Nev.
The event is free and open to the public.
The exhibit will be on display through May 9.
The gallery is located at 30 Big Red Lane, Ucross.

Stars of Tomorrow @ WYO Theater

SHERIDAN — The Kiwanis will host “Stars of Tomorrow” Feb. 21.

This youth talent show will present children in three categories: elementary, junior high and high school.

First-, second- and third-place winners in each category will receive a trophy and a certificate.

There will also be an overall winner who will receive a scholarship toward the college of their choice and is given the opportunity to compete at the district level.

The show will commence at 7 p.m. at the WYO Theater located at 42 N. Main St.

Tickets for the performance are $8 for adults, $5 for students under age 18 and free for children five years old and younger.

Behind the Scenes Saturday @ Sheridan County Museum

The Sheridan County Museum will present “Behind the Scenes Saturday” on Saturday. This free event is open to all with no reservations required. The museum will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. for a behind-the-scenes view at the museum’s operations. The public is invited to come and see what goes on at the museum when the galleries are closed. Attendees will see how employees take down old exhibits, care for the items entrusted to the museum and prepare new items and galleries for new exhibits. “Back to the Drawing Board” artist’s reception @ Martinsen Gallery at Sheridan College

A new art exhibit, “Back to the Drawing Board” by Christie American Horse, will open at the Martinsen Gallery on Tuesday, commencing with an artist’s reception. On Tuesday from 4-5 p.m. the public is invited to the free reception at Sheridan College. American Horse, who was born cross-eyed but overcame the condition, has worked in many mediums including oils, pastels, acrylics, watercolors, charcoal and graphite. The exhibit will focus on her drawings, which she states is her favorite part of the painting process. She is the daughter of fellow local artist Fred Goehring and a graduate of Northwest Nazarene University in Idaho. The exhibit will run through April 8. The gallery is located in the Whitney building of SC located at 3059 Coffeen Ave.

Wyoming Women’s Legislative Caucus

The Wyoming Women’s Legislative Caucus invites all community members to attend “Leap in to Leadership 2014” on Feb. 27 and 28 in Cheyenne. The caucus will feature national experts on women in politics, campaign planning and board governance workshops and a roundtable discussion of women in Wyoming politics. A dinner will be held on Feb. 27 featuring Kellyanne Conway and Celinda Lake discussing how a united women’s power base is changing the state of our nation more than two-sided politics. Registration before Feb. 10 for the two day event is $60 and for the dinner is $25. Registration after Feb. 10 for the event is $75 and for the dinner is $30. Science Saturday H2O Olympics @ Edward A. Whitney Academic Center atrium of Sheridan College

Science Saturday offers free admission to the museum for the entire community. This month the focus is “H2O Olympics” from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday in the Edward A. Whitney Academic Center atrium of Sheridan College.

Water may seem ordinary but it is a building block of life and the program will discuss why.

Photographs taken in the Cloud Peak Wilderness area will be on display in The Inner Circle at Sheridan County Fulmer Public Library during the month of March. Local representatives of the US Forest Service will be displaying the photographs as a part of their celebration of the 50th anniversary of the signing of The Wilderness Act. A reception will be held on Monday from 5-7 p.m. to mark the opening. All members of the community are invited to attend this free event.
