Saturday University: The Free One-Day College Education @ Sheridan College

Sheridan College will present “Saturday University: The Free One-Day College Education” on Feb. 8.

Members of the community are invited to go back to college for a day — minus the tests and late-night study sessions — as three professors from the University of Wyoming present lectures from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

The day begins with free coffee and pastries followed by opening remarks.

The first session, “The thinking animal: A look back at comparative psychology in the 21st century,” will begin at 9 a.m.

The second lecture, “Making it home: Landscape photographs in the 19th-century West,” will begin at 10:15 a.m.

The final class, “Biodiversity inside and out: A look at life’s richness from Wyoming’s perspective,” will begin at 11:30 a.m.

The day will conclude with a lunch and conversation with the professors.

All activities are free and no pre-registration is required.

Saturday University is a collaborative program connecting popular UW professors with Wyoming residents sponsored by UW, the UW Foundation and the Wyoming Humanities Council.

Live from The Met: Dvorak’s ‘Rusalka’ @ WYO Theater

The WYO Theater will present “Live from The Met: Dvorak’s ‘Rusalka’” on Feb. 8 at 11 a.m.

The performance is part of the series “The Metropolitan Opera: Live in High-Definition” which transmits opera performances to movie theaters and other venues around the world as part of The Metropolitan Opera’s efforts to reinvigorate opera and reach out to a broader public.

The program allows audiences to experience the production at the same time as the audience in New York.

“Rusalka” stars Renee Fleming in one of her signature roles alongside Piotr Beczala, Dolora Zajick and maestro Yannick Nezet-Seguin. Tickets are $18 for adults and $9 for students. Tickets may be purchased online at www.wyotheater.com, on the phone at 672-9084 extension 100 or in person at the box office, which is located inside the theater at 42 N. Main St.

Ducks Unlimited 30th annual membership banquet, dinner and auction @ Bozeman Trail steakhouse

The Buffalo Chapter of Ducks Unlimited will hold their 30th annual membership banquet, dinner and auction on Feb. 8.

DU works to meet the needs of waterfowl in Wyoming by creating and enhancing wetlands and associated upland habitats.

The evening will include dinner, raffles and an auction.

Auction items available will be wildlife art, firearms, sculptures, antique wood decoy, gift certificates, dinner and lodging packages, a battlefield tour, fishing and hunting trips, golf packages and more.

Tickets are $35 per person if purchased by Feb. 1 and $45 per person or $80 per couple after Feb. 1.

The evening commences at 5:30 p.m. at the Bozeman Trail steakhouse and seating is limited. The steakhouse is located at 675 E. Hart St., Buffalo.

Sheridan College Rodeo Banquet @ Holiday Inn

The fourth annual Sheridan College Rodeo Banquet will be held Feb. 8.

The event is a fundraiser benefitting scholarships and operating costs for the men’s and women’s student-athlete rodeo teams.

The evening will begin at 5:30 p.m. at the Holiday Inn and dinner will be served at 6:30 p.m.

Silent and live auctions will be held and live entertainment will be provided by Justin Beasley and After the Rodeo.

Tickets are $50 per person and must be purchased in advance.

Warriors Don’t Cry @ WYO Theater

The Bushnell Center will present “Warriors Don’t Cry” at the WYO Theater on Wednesday. Part of the Children’s Education and Family series at the theater, the play tells the story of the Little Rock Nine who risked their lives in 1957 to end segregation at Central High School. The play received the American Library Association award, 1995 Nonfiction Book of the Year award and the Robert F. Kennedy Book award. The performance will commence at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $14 for adults, $8 for students and $5 for children ages 12 and younger. Seventh annual Fireman’s Ball @ Historic Sheridan Inn
Feb 15 @ 7:00 pm – 11:00 pm

The seventh annual Fireman’s Ball will be held Feb. 15 at the Historic Sheridan Inn.

From 7-11 p.m. entertainment will be provided by the Teka Brock Band, appetizers will be served, a silent auction will be offered and a wine ladder and Harley will be raffled off.

A cash bar will be available.

For the Harley raffle, 250 raffle tickets will be sold prior to the ball for $100 each. Each purchase includes two free tickets to the event. The grand prize will be a “Firefighter Edition” Harley Davidson. Runner-up cash prizes will also be granted.

Professional photos of attendees in fire fighter outfits will be taken by FFF Photography and available for purchase.

Proceeds from the Harley raffle will benefit a scholarship for an area student. Proceeds from the event and photos will go toward the installation of a firefighters statue in front of the station.

Tickets are $25 per person and can be purchased at the station, Red Velvet Bakery, Sheridan Stationary and Twisted Hearts.

The Monster Who Ate My Peas @ WYO Theater

The WYO Theater will host “The Monster Who Ate My Peas” on Feb. 18.

Based on the multi-award winning book written by Danny Schnitzlein and illustrated by Matthew Faulkner, this musical play is part of the Children’s Educational and Family series.

Commencing at 6:30 p.m., the performance will tell the story of a young boy who doesn’t want to eat his peas so he makes a deal with a monster to give the creature anything he wants if he’ll eat the boy’s peas.

Tickets are $14 for adults, $8 for students and $5 for children ages 12 and under.

Stars of Tomorrow @ WYO Theater

SHERIDAN — The Kiwanis will host “Stars of Tomorrow” Feb. 21.

This youth talent show will present children in three categories: elementary, junior high and high school.

First-, second- and third-place winners in each category will receive a trophy and a certificate.

There will also be an overall winner who will receive a scholarship toward the college of their choice and is given the opportunity to compete at the district level.

The show will commence at 7 p.m. at the WYO Theater located at 42 N. Main St.

Tickets for the performance are $8 for adults, $5 for students under age 18 and free for children five years old and younger.

Pheasants Forever Banquet and Auction @ Sheridan County Fairgrounds Exhibit Hall

SHERIDAN — The annual Pheasants Forever Banquet and Auction will be held Feb. 22.

The fundraising buffet banquet benefits the Sheridan/Johnson County chapter of Pheasants Forever and will be held at the Sheridan County Fairgrounds Exhibit Hall from 5:30-10 p.m.

Tickets are $60 each or $90 per couple and purchases include a membership in the organization.

Raffle tickets for a Can-Am 500 four-wheeler and a raffle for 10 special guns will be sold separately for $20 each.

Thankful Thursday benefitting Sheridan Foster Parents Exchange @ Warehouse 201

SHERIDAN — Warehouse 201 will host the next Thankful Thursday event on Thursday.

From 5:30-8 p.m. Sheridan Foster Parents Exchange will be honored with the fundraiser.

Admission is free, a silent and live auction will be held, live music will be played by Terry Garrison and all proceeds will benefit the organization.

Tickets will be sold at the door for $25 and will offer 10 percent off purchases made throughout the evening, a $250 cash give-away, door prizes and other surprises.

“Prince Igor” is a Russian epic famous for its Polovtsian dances and hasn’t been to the Met in nearly 100 years. Star bass-baritone Ildar Abdrazakov takes on the title role with Gianandrea Noseda conducting.

A Dinner Theater Event: Tangled @ Tongue River High School auditorium

The Tongue River High School theater department will present “A Dinner Theater Event: Tangled” tonight.

“Tangled,” the Disney story staring Rapunzel, will be adapted and performed by TRHS students in the school auditorium.

The play will be presented for free to the entire community at 7 p.m.

Prior to the performance a fundraiser spaghetti dinner will be served.

Dinner will be served at 6 p.m. and cots $15 per plate or $40 per family.

Best of the West BBQ Fest Fat Tuesday fundraiser @ Black Tooth Brewery

The Best of the West BBQ Fest committee will host a Fat Tuesday celebration to kick-off their fundraising season. On Tuesday at 6 p.m. complimentary appetizers and music by the Teka Brock Band will be provided at the Black Tooth Brewery. “Sundae cups” of coleslaw, baked beans and BBQ pork will be sold with all proceeds supporting the Best of the West BBQ Fest competition. EPA/HUD Renovation, Repair and Painting Initial Training @ Holiday Inn

The Montana Department of Public Health and Human Services with the Low-Income Weatherization Program and the Montana State University Extension Housing Program, is sponsoring an event to be held in Sheridan on Thursday.

“EPA/HUD Renovation, Repair and Painting Initial Training” will be held at the Holiday Inn from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The eight hour course developed by the United States Environmental Protection Agency in collaboration with the US Department of Housing and Urban Development will train attendees how to work safely in housing with lead-based paint and comply with EPA’s RRP rule, and HUD’s Lead Safe Home rule.

Attendees will be given a Certified Renovators photo ID which is valid for five years.

The course hold a value of $200 but is being offered in Sheridan for free thanks to the presenting sponsors.

Pre-registration is required and space is limited.

Fundraising: why and how @ Downtown Sheridan Association Community Room

The Sheridan Public Arts Committee and the Sheridan Artists’ Guild have partnered to offer a presentation and workshop on fundraising. Jack Miller of the Miller Group will lead “Fundraising: why and how” tomorrow at the Downtown Sheridan Association Community Room. Commencing at 1:30 p.m., Miller will give an overview of fundraising in America and discuss topics including how to organize for success, techniques for fundraising, steps for creating a multiple year campaign and keeping track of pledges and mailing lists. Miller is a nationally recognized strategist and lecturer with 45 years of experience as a management consultant in philanthropy. “March Gladness” Spring Salad Luncheon @ First United Methodist Church

The United Methodist Women will host the annual Spring Salad Luncheon on Thursday. Empty Bowl Event @ Sheridan County YMCA

The Volunteers of America Northern Rockies will host their annual Empty Bowl Event Thursday. The fundraising event serves attendees a simple dinner emulating what one might eat at a soup kitchen served in a handcrafted bowl and accompanied by music from Canary Joe, a silent auction, face painting for kids and more. Attendees keep their dinner bowls as reminders about homelessness. The event will run from 5-8 p.m. at the Sheridan County YMCA. Tickets are available at the door for $25 per family, $10 for adults, $5 for kids and children under five are free. All proceeds benefit the Sheridan Community Homeless Shelter.
