“Back to the Drawing Board” artist’s reception @ Martinsen Gallery at Sheridan College

A new art exhibit, “Back to the Drawing Board” by Christie American Horse, will open at the Martinsen Gallery on Tuesday, commencing with an artist’s reception. On Tuesday from 4-5 p.m. the public is invited to the free reception at Sheridan College. American Horse, who was born cross-eyed but overcame the condition, has worked in many mediums including oils, pastels, acrylics, watercolors, charcoal and graphite. The exhibit will focus on her drawings, which she states is her favorite part of the painting process. She is the daughter of fellow local artist Fred Goehring and a graduate of Northwest Nazarene University in Idaho. The exhibit will run through April 8. The gallery is located in the Whitney building of SC located at 3059 Coffeen Ave.

Forest service photos reception @ The Inner Circle at Sheridan County Fulmer Public Library

Photographs taken in the Cloud Peak Wilderness area will be on display in The Inner Circle at Sheridan County Fulmer Public Library during the month of March. Local representatives of the US Forest Service will be displaying the photographs as a part of their celebration of the 50th anniversary of the signing of The Wilderness Act. A reception will be held on Monday from 5-7 p.m. to mark the opening. All members of the community are invited to attend this free event. Jentel Presents @ Sagebrush Community Art Center

Jentel Artist Residency Program will host their March “Jentel Presents” on Tuesday. “Jentel Presents” is a free community outreach event open to everyone which features visual presentations and readings by artist in residency. The event will take place from 5:30-7 p.m. at the Sagebrush Community Art Center and refreshments will be served. This month’s presenters include playwright Barbara Lindsay, mixed media artist Laini Nemett, metal smith Lori Swartz and printmaker Junko Yamamoto. What’s happening at the Inn @ Designing Dinners

Akcita Win will host a program on Tuesday.

Commencing at 6 p.m. Diana Johnson, volunteer coordinator for the Historic Sheridan Inn will present “What’s happening at the Inn?”

The meeting will be held at Designing Dinners and food may be ordered off the menu but is not required to attend.

All members of the community are welcome to attend. Members of the organization are invited to take part in the secret sister program and secret sister assignments will be made at this meeting.

Conversation in History @ Senior Center conference room

The Sheridan Senior Center will host Helen Laumann of the Sheridan County Historical Society for the next “Conversation in History” on Wednesday. This series of casual conversations surrounding specific portions of our Sheridan area history is free and open to the public. A show of original paintings in a variety of media created by local artist Tom Randazzo will be presented on the mezzanine of Sheridan Fulmer Public library. “Balance and texture” will present a wide variety of mixed media including wax and motor oil. “Seven Years Plus” artist’s reception @ SAGE Exhibit Gallery @ Sheridan College Main Street

Throughout the month of March the SAGE Exhibit Gallery will feature life-long Sheridan area resident and colored pencil artist Dean States. “Seven Years Plus” will exhibit his drawings at the gallery located inside Sherian College Main Street. An artist’s reception and gallery talk will be held Thursday from 5:30-7 p.m. The public is welcome to this free event and refreshments will be served. The gallery is located at 171 N. Charlie Craven fly tying demo @ Best Western

The local chapter of Trout Unlimited will host guest author, fly designer and fly tyer Charlie Craven on Thursday. At 6 p.m. at the Best Western, Cravens, a world renowned tyer from Boulder, Colo., will offer a demonstration of his fly tying techniques. The Sagebrush Community Art Center’s Invitational Gallery will host Buffalo artist Jenny Wuerker’s exhibition “Painting the Expanse” today through April 12. Sheridan College will host guest presenter Ben Anderson on Monday. Anderson, the author of “Breaking through,” “IQ of 63, so what!” and “Last one picked, so what!,” will present “My disability…an incredible journey.” The discussion will include dialogue relating to disabilities such as discrimination, getting an education and misdiagnosis. Roller Derby meet and greet @ Big Horn Mountain Eagles #4169

Sheridan’s first local roller derby league, the Bomber Mountain Derby Devils, is hosting a recruitment meet and greet event on Wednesday for the newly formed women’s team. Commencing at 6 p.m. at the Big Horn Mountain Eagles #4169 refreshments will be served and attendees will learn more about roller derby including participation requirements. The league, which is seeking non-profit status, hopes to offer men’s and youth teams in the future, offering new activities and family entertainment options as other area teams and their fans visit Sheridan for competitions. Cleanup and Remediation of Creosote Impacted Soils from a Railroad Tie Chipping Facility @ Sheridan College Mohns Center

As part of the Sheridan College Science Museum Lecture Series, John Trumble will present “Cleanup and Remediation of Creosote Impacted Soils from a Railroad Tie Chipping Facility” on Wednesday. Trumble, the president of Cordilleran Environmental Consultants, Inc., will discuss the findings of a BNSF Railway Company sponsored research study conducted near Bovey, Minn. to investigate the use of phytoremediation to clean up an industrially-impacted soil containing polynuclear aromatic hydrocarbons. Seventh biennial Big Horn Elementary All-Student Art Show reception @ The Brinton Museum

The Seventh biennial Big Horn Elementary All-Student Art Show at The Brinton Museum will open Thursday.

Wyoming Wednesdays @ Visitor's Center

SHERIDAN — The Wyoming Office of Tourism will host the next event in a series of events called “Wyoming Wednesdays.” Informative and interpretive programs about Sheridan are being offered at 10 a.m. most Wednesdays throughout July at the Wyoming Welcome Center. At this week’s event representatives from the Wyoming Fish Hatchery in Story will give us an overview of what happens at the hatchery. The events are free and open to everyone. Attendees are encouraged to bring picnic lunches and stay and enjoy the Visitor’s Center before or after each program. The center is located off of Interstate 90 on the Fifth Street exit. Trail maintenance in the wilderness

SHERIDAN — For the next event in a series of outings celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Wilderness Act of 1964 and the 30th anniversary of the Wyoming Wilderness Act of 1984, the Wyoming Wilderness Association will host a hike up Crystal Creek in the Gros Ventre Wilderness on July 24 to view nature at work. This includes an interpretive hike with Tim Farris as he explains backcountry trail maintenance. Hikers will learn how the Forest Service manages challenges in its trail maintenance program. Climb Brooks Mountain @ Wyoming Wilderness Association

SHERIDAN — For the next event in a series of outings celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Wilderness Act of 1964 and the 30th anniversary of the Wyoming Wilderness Act of 1984, the Wyoming Wilderness Association will host a gradual climb to the top of Brooks Mountain. A moderate to strenuous hike, it leads to a breathtaking drop-off overlooking Brooks Lake and the DuNoir valley, with views of the Tetons. Bring a picnic lunch and spend time discussing the anniversary of wilderness areas The walk will be approximately eight miles roundtrip. Spur Ranch Fest
