Brent Spink artist’s reception @ Sheridan County Fulmer Public Library

Local artist Brent Spink will present his art throughout February at Sheridan County Fulmer Public Library beginning with an artist’s reception on Saturday.

The reception will be in The Inner Circle from 1-3 p.m.

Spink is originally from Missoula, Mont. and his primary medium is oil paintings.

He currently lives and works just north of Sheridan in the Wolf Teeth Mountains.

Basics of Microsoft Word class for 50 and older @ Sheridan College Main Street

Sheridan College’s Center for Workforce and Community Education and the American Association of Community Colleges are presenting a series of classes for people age 50 and over.
Classes will be held the second Tuesday of each month starting in September and ending in June.
The class schedule is:
• Feb. 11 — basics of Microsoft Word
• March 11 — writing attention-grabbing resumes
• April 8 — successful interviews
• May 13 — critical thinking
• June 10 — providing “wow” customer service
All classes are free and will be held from 8-11 a.m. at Sheridan College Main Street, 171 N. Main St. Pre-registration is required.

Cowboy Country: Photographs by Mary and Arthur ‘Pete’ Dailey artist’s reception @ SAGE Exhibit Gallery inside Sheridan College Main Street

The Sheridan Artists’ Guild, Et al (SAGE) will host an artist’s reception and gallery talk on Thursday.

From 5:30-7 p.m. the public is welcome to visit the gallery and enjoy refreshments as SAGE presents “Cowboy Country: Photographs by Mary and Arthur ‘Pete’ Dailey” which is on display now.

The SAGE Exhibit Gallery is located inside Sheridan College Main Street at 171 N. Main St.

The exhibit will run through the end of the month.

Moments of Seeing: The Art of Teresa Jordan and Chessney Sevier @ Ucross Foundation Art Gallery

SHERIDAN — A new exhibit is opening at the Ucross Foundation Art Gallery on Feb. 15 and an artist’s reception will be held.
“Moments of Seeing: The Art of Teresa Jordan and Chessney Sevier” will feature monotypes and hand-colored monotypes by Jordan and paintings and intaglio etchings by Sevier.
The reception will run from 3-5 p.m. and will include a special performance in the Barn Loft at 4 p.m. featuring music and stories by Jordan and her husband, Hal Cannon, the executive director of the Western Folklife Center and National Poetry Gathering in Elko, Nev.
The event is free and open to the public.
The exhibit will be on display through May 9.
The gallery is located at 30 Big Red Lane, Ucross.

Uncapped @ Sagebrush Community Art Center

SHERIDAN — The Sagebrush Community Art Center will host a special class “Uncapped” on Feb. 22.

This painting workshop is tailored to adults and children and will be taught by Tongue River High School art student Hannah Johnston.

Johnston will guide the class in a 20X16 painting with local artist Sonja Caywood serving as her assistant. The class will run from 2-4 p.m. at the art center.

The cost to attend is $35 per adult and $25 per child with an adult, with all supplies included.

Johnston is raising money to go to Europe and all proceeds will go toward that cause.

Attendees are invited to bring non-alcoholic beverages.

“Back to the Drawing Board” artist’s reception @ Martinsen Gallery at Sheridan College

A new art exhibit, “Back to the Drawing Board” by Christie American Horse, will open at the Martinsen Gallery on Tuesday, commencing with an artist’s reception. On Tuesday from 4-5 p.m. the public is invited to the free reception at Sheridan College. American Horse, who was born cross-eyed but overcame the condition, has worked in many mediums including oils, pastels, acrylics, watercolors, charcoal and graphite. The exhibit will focus on her drawings, which she states is her favorite part of the painting process. She is the daughter of fellow local artist Fred Goehring and a graduate of Northwest Nazarene University in Idaho. The exhibit will run through April 8. The gallery is located in the Whitney building of SC located at 3059 Coffeen Ave.

The Sagebrush Community Art Center will host another “Uncorked” workshop on Tuesday. “Sunshine Poppies” will offer music, fun and step-by-step guidance from local artist Sonja Caywood on painting your own 20X16 acrylic sunshine poppy painting. The event is open to all and all supplies are included in the price of admission. Space is limited and pre-registration is requested. Registration costs $5 per adult and $25 for children and can be made by calling the art center at 674-1970. The art center is located inside the Historic Train Depot at 201 E. Fifth St.

Pub Painting

The Wyoming Water Color Association will present “Pub Painting” an Artists in Motion fundraiser. On Friday at 5 p.m. the artists of the association will paint and sell their works inside the corner pub at Fifth Street and Main Street. There is no cost to attend but attendees must be age 21 or older to enter the pub. The WWCA offers classes to educate people on the art and Artists in Motion is a grassroots movement to bring art to the masses. Attendees’ participation is welcome. SHERIDAN — Landon’s Greenhouse and Nursery will host two free public workshops on Saturday.

Beginning at 10 a.m. Wayne Gray will present “Stop and smell the roses” an informative and fast-paced session that will cover the different types of roses, rose planting and care and rose pests and diseases and how to control them.

The second workshop will be presented by Landon’s manager Keith Kershaw at 1 p.m. Kershaw will present “Backyard orchard: All about fruit trees,” an informative workshop discussing how to grow fruit trees in Wyoming.

All workshops are free but space is limited so pre-registration is requested.

Forest service photos reception @ The Inner Circle at Sheridan County Fulmer Public Library

Photographs taken in the Cloud Peak Wilderness area will be on display in The Inner Circle at Sheridan County Fulmer Public Library during the month of March. Local representatives of the US Forest Service will be displaying the photographs as a part of their celebration of the 50th anniversary of the signing of The Wilderness Act. A reception will be held on Monday from 5-7 p.m. to mark the opening. All members of the community are invited to attend this free event. Jentel Artist Residency Program will host their March “Jentel Presents” on Tuesday. “Jentel Presents” is a free community outreach event open to everyone which features visual presentations and readings by artist in residency. On Wednesday from 5:30-6:30 p.m. in room 153 of the Whitney Building he will provide a presentation of his work and his creative process. This event is free and open to the public. On Thursday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. he will spend the day working on unfinished drawings in the art wing hallway. Interested students and members of the public are encouraged to observe the evolution of his work throughout the day. On Friday from 12:30-4:30 p.m. he will conduct an experimental drawing workshop. More examples of his work will be exhibited in the fine arts wing gallery starting tomorrow and remaining through March 15.
