Tween Challenge Takeover – Biodiversity @ Sheridan County Fulmer Public Library

SHERIDAN — The Sheridan County Fulmer Public Library will continue to offer programming for “tweens” through May.

Next week’s “Tween Challenge Takeover” programs will focus on fiber art.

“Tween Challenge Takeover” is geared toward kids in fifth through seventh grades.

The program includes activities and experiments that draw from the fields of science, technology, engineering, art, mathematics and the “maker-space” movement.

The programs are held Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:30-5 p.m. in the Children’s Theater at Sheridan County Fulmer Public Library.

SHERIDAN — All the elementary schools in Sheridan County School District 2 will combine for a night of singing and fun on April 30.

The concert featuring choirs from each elementary school will begin at 7 p.m. Thursday in the Early Auditorium at Sheridan Junior High School.

UNPLUG: Banana Slug String Band and Great Elk Tour @ Mars Black Box Theater at the WYO Theater
May 18 @ 4:00 pm – 6:00 pm

SHERIDAN — Unplug Week will kick off May 18 with an offering that is new this year, an evening at the WYO Theater aimed at educating children in a fun way.

The Banana Slug String Band — musicians, songwriters and educators who blend music, theater, puppetry and audience participation to create a learning environment for kids — will perform a free concert from 6-8 p.m. May 18 in the Mars Black Box Theater.

Claire Hobbs, communications and development associate with the SCLT, said the group teaches many different science and environmentally focused lessons ranging from water cycles to recycling in a fun and interactive way.

Just prior, the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation’s traveling “Great Elk Tour” conservation education exhibit will be open from 4-6 p.m. displaying world-class taxidermy as a way for children to better understand the habitat of the animals and how conserving them ensures our hunting heritage.

Baroque and Symphony orchestra concert @ Sheridan High School Sue Henry Auditorium

SHERIDAN — The Baroque Orchestra and the Sheridan High School Symphony Orchestra will present their spring concert at 7 p.m. May 18 at the SHS Sue Henry Auditorium.

The Baroque Orchestra will perform Symphony No. 25 by Mozart.

The SHS Symphony Orchestra will perform selections from Carmen Suite No. 1 by Georges Bizet. Student Jacob Jahiel will perform Mozart’s Violin Concerto in G and Mackenzie Dougherty will perform Violin Concerto in B-flat by Pergolesi with the chamber orchestra.

Both the Baroque and symphony orchestras will combine to perform “Memory” from the musical “Cats” by Andrew Lloyd Weber and “Pirates of the Caribbean” by Klaus Badelt.

UNPLUG: Mud, Bugs and Fish! @ Connor Park
May 19 @ 4:00 pm – 6:00 pm

SHERIDAN — On May 19, “Mud, Bugs and Fish!” will get children of all ages working hands on with the Wyoming Game and Fish stream trailer, an educational tool that demonstrates how the natural movement of streams and rivers works. Participants will do a water quality experiment with the Sheridan County Conservation District, and get up close and personal with water bugs. Event runs from 4-6 p.m. May 19 at Connor Park in Ranchester, accessed via Gillette Street.

DSA wine, food and music pairing event @ The Loft above the Cattle and Creek Restaurant
May 19 @ 6:00 pm – 9:00 pm

SHERIDAN — The Downtown Sheridan Association will host an evening of wine, food and music pairing from 6-9 p.m. May 19 at The Loft, located above the Cattle and Creek Restaurant at 201 Broadway St.

The Instagators will provide live music.

Wine will be donated by Steve Reed of Northwest Vintage, and food will be donated by Killy’s Warehouse Market and Red Velvet Bakery.

Tickets are $40 per person.

Big Horn High School band and choir concert @ Big Horn High School auditorium

BIG HORN — The Big Horn High School band and choir will present a Spring Concert at 7 p.m. May 19 in the BHHS auditorium.

Choir selections will include “Where Go The Boats,” with poetry by Robert Louis Stevenson and music by Mary Lynn Lightfoot, “Fly Away Medley” arranged by Mark Hayes, “Riversong” by Roger Emerson and “I Got A Name” arranged by Jay Althouse.

The band will present “Plaza de Toros” by Mark Williams, “Final Drive” by Doug Beach and George Shutack, “Caribbean Dance” by Victor Lopez, “Smack Dab In The Middle” arranged by Rick Stitzel and “Rockin’ The Boat” by Brad Ciechomski.

Music teacher Ariel Downing will direct the band and the choir. Wendy Mort will accompany the choir.

The event is free and open to the public.

Sheridan High School band ‘pops’ concert @ Sheridan High School Sue Henry Auditorium

UNPLUG: Litte Birds, Big Birds @ South Park

SHERIDAN — On May 20, “Little Birds, Big Birds” will give children ages 5 and older the chance to try birding. Two hikes will be offered — both starting from the South Park parking lot off of Brundage Lane — at 4 p.m. and again at 5 p.m. for all skill levels. Parents or guardians are required to attend. Kids will learn how to identify birds on a birding scavenger hunt.

SHERIDAN — Picnic on the Pathway is a self-guided event encouraging families to dedicate an evening to walking, biking or running on the pathways in Sheridan. SCLT will provide a safety briefing and maps starting at 4 p.m. at Washington Park and will provide dinner to the participating families between 5-6 p.m. at Washington Park, located on Coffeen Avenue.

SHERIDAN — The Unplug Finale event will offer an introduction to camping in a fun and safe environment by allowing families to camp for the night in Kendrick Park. A bluegrass jam session with local musicians as well as bonfires and s’mores will highlight the evening and free breakfast for campers will be offered the next morning.

Rhino Run @ Sheridan College

SHERIDAN — The nursing program at Sheridan College will host its second annual Rhino Run on Saturday to benefit Science Kids, Sheridan College nursing students, the food bank and The Food Group.

The run will be held at 2 p.m. May 30 at the college. Show up at noon to register and pick up a T-shirt.

Entry fee is $10 plus a canned food item.

Four Rhino “chases” will be offered: 5K Rhino Run, 2.5K Rhino Trot, 1K Rhino Chase and 50-Yard Diaper Dash.

Pick up and drop off registration forms at participating elementary schools, middle schools and day cares or register the day of the event.

The event is open to the public. Organizers request that no dogs be brought.

SHERIDAN — The SheridanAires will present ‘Juke Joint Jump’ on June 4 and 5 at the Sheridan Senior Center.

This choir concert will feature special guests Heidi Parker and Morgan Parker.

On June 4, the concert will begin at 1:30 p.m.

On June 5, the concert will include dinner at 6 p.m. and the show at 7:15 p.m.

Cost for dinner is a suggested $10 donation.
