SheridanAires to perform at Senior Center @ Sheridan Senior Center

SHERIDAN — The SheridanAires will perform at the Sheridan Senior Center on June 2 at 1:30 p.m. and June 3 at 7:15 p.m.

A suggested donation of $2 per person is the cost for the June 2 show.

The June 3 event will have a dinner at 6 p.m. prior to the show. The suggested donation for dinner is $10. RSVPs are requested for dinner by calling the Sheridan Senior Center at 672-2240.

The center is located at 211 Smith St.

Brinton to open new exhibit, ‘Landscape & Beyond’ @ Brinton Museum

BIG HORN — The Brinton Museum will feature nationally-acclaimed American landscape painter Clyde Aspevig in a one-person exhibit, “Landscape & Beyond,” on display in the Forrest E. Mars, Jr. Building’s Jacomien Mars Reception Gallery from June 5 through July 31.

A reception to meet the artist is set for June 5, from 5:30-7:30 p.m. for museum members.

Known by museums and world class collectors, Aspevig is highly regarded as an accomplished American painter who uses vibrant color to depict spectacular Western landscapes. Aspevig is the recipient of numerous awards going back to the 1980s, including more recently the 1997 Prix de West Invitational Award, National Cowboy Hall of Fame; the prestigious 2006 Autry National Center John J. Geraghty Award; and the 2013 Edgar Payne Award for Best Landscape at the 102nd California Art Gold Medal Show, USC Fisher Museum of Art in Los Angeles, California.

As an artist who grew up on a ranch in Montana, his paintings evoke a sense of passion about the land that tugs at an emotional sensibility in all of us. The exhibit includes 28 paintings representing new work as well as a selection of oils dating back to 2013.

Submissions for juried photography show due June 15 @ Sagebrush Community Art Center

SHERIDAN — The Sagebrush Community Art Center has issued a call for submissions for the second annual juried photography show.

The show is open to all artists residing in the U.S., but works cannot exceed 3-foot-by-3-foot.

The works to be exhibited will be chosen by Adam Jahiel, a world-renowned photographer who lives in Sheridan County.

All entries must be submitted by June 15  to be considered. Details on how to submit photos can be found at artinsheridan.com.

The show will open at the art center July 6 and run through Aug. 23.

Library kicks off June exhibit on mezzanine @ Sheridan County Fulmer Public Library

SHERIDAN — Sheridan County Fulmer Public Library will host the artwork of local student artists Rebekah Blommel, Nichole Wrigley and Maria Stacy on the mezzanine during the month of June.

A free public reception for the artists will be held on the mezzanine on Monday from 5-7 p.m.

Blommel grew up in Sheridan and is currently an art major at Sheridan College. She is trying out different mediums to better understand the materials used and to develop a style that speaks to her. She loves nature and enjoys snapping moments in time using of photography.

Nichole Wrigley grew up in Wright and is currently attending Sheridan College as an art major. She plans to move on and become an art educator. She tries to experiment with new techniques and processes in her work while exploring new mediums. She combines illustration and realism in her work.

Maria Stacy said her ultimate goal is to make something that will have a positive effect in someone’s life and art is going to be a part of that goal. She said she makes art not because she loves it, but because of the impact it has had on her life. She currently attends Sheridan College discovering what she wants to do with her love for art in the job field.

The Sheridan County Fulmer Public Library is located at 335 W. Alger St. in Sheridan.

‘More than Music’ to be highlighted in Buffalo this summer @ Occidental Hotel

BUFFALO — The famous Occidental Hotel Thursday night jam is celebrating 10 years of weekly musical community gatherings. A summer of musical events, commemorative items and celebrations is being planned, culminating in a huge anniversary concert.

“It is significant the Occidental Jam has lasted 10 years and is still going strong,” said Lynn Young, an organizer of the event and an original founder of the jam.

“It’s not just about music, but it’s about a viable community coming together to celebrate weekly fellowship and caring for each other,” he continued. “We have decided to name our celebration ‘More Than Music’ to recognize the jam’s significance to our community.”

A Summer of Music concert series at the Occidental is being planned to help celebrate the “More Than Music” anniversary. Shows will include Michael Martin Murphy on June 11 and bluegrass legend David Parmley and Cardinal Tradition on July 31. Several free appearances by Occidental jammers will take place throughout the summer.

The final celebration will end with a special 10th anniversary jam on Oct. 13 at the Occidental, and an Oct. 15 “More Than Music” concert at the Bomber Mountain Civic Center featuring award winning artists Laurie Lewis and Tom Rozum, local favorite Jalan Crossland, Nashville songwriters Brice Long and Kostas, along with local bands Prairie Wildfire, Too Wet to Plow, Band of Outlaws and more.

The More Than Music celebration is being sponsored by the Dan Carlat-Occidental Jam Memorial Scholarship Fund and all proceeds from the sale of commemorative items and concerts will go to the fund.

Ohio Northern University choir to perform in Sheridan on Friday @ First United Methodist Church

SHERIDAN — The First United Methodist Church will present a concert featuring the Ohio Northern University National Tour Choir in the church sanctuary on Friday at 7 p.m.

The event is free and open to the public. A freewill love offering for the touring group will be taken.

The Ohio Northern National Tour Choir is on a 38-day concert tour to 26 states during May and June. The choir consists of members of the ONU University Singers, the top choral ensemble at ONU, which tours annually.

The concert will be in three sections and will open with a sacred segment.

The First United Methodist Church is located at 215 W. Works St.

Sarah Sample concert set for Friday @ Trail End’s Carriage House Theater

SHERIDAN — Sheridan’s Carriage House Theater will host singer-songwriter Sarah Sample on Friday at 7:30 p.m.

According to organizers of the event, it is part of the new Small State Concert Series. The Carriage House, an 88-seat venue at the Trail End State Historic Site, will host the series, which will feature intimate evenings of entertainment from a variety of performers on a semi-regular basis throughout the year.

Library to feature multiple exhibits @ Sheridan County Fulmer Public Library

SHERIDAN — Sheridan Fulmer Library will feature two art exhibits in the month of August.

A public artist reception will be held on the mezzanine on Thursday from 5-7 p.m. for local artist Daniel Granger whose work will include a mixture of photographs, paintings, drawings and wood sculptures on display on the mezzanine.

Wyoming State Museum’s traveling exhibit “Those Holes into the Earth: Centuries of Mining” will look at mining from prehistoric times to modern day Wyoming through photographs, illustrations, text and a handout “Booms and Busts.” It will be on display for the month of July in the Inner Circle.

In addition to the two exhibits, members of the local Monarch Underground Miners Picnic organization will display several antique mining items and artwork from former mining community residents in the Sheridan area.

Third Thursday returns @ Main Street and Grinnell Plaza

SHERIDAN — The Senior Center will host a Bluegrass Jam from 7-9 p.m. on the third Thursday of each month with $2 burgers available to purchase.

The event will feature musicians and vocalists that take the stage to take turns choosing and leading everyone in a song of their choice.

Participants are encouraged to have music prepared that is simple for others to follow.

Outdoor concert, street party planned for Monday @ Sheridan Inn

SHERIDAN — The Sheridan Inn will host Band of Outlaws and the  Texas Jamm Band, featuring members of George Straight’s Ace in the Hole band, on Monday from 7-9 p.m.

The event will take place on the front lawn of the Sheridan Inn with a part of Broadway Street blocked off for the festivities.

Tickets are $15 and children younger than 10 get in free. Ticket are available for purchase by calling the WYO Theater box office at 672-9083. For more information call the Sheridan Inn at 763-8973. The Sheridan Inn is located at 856 Broadway St.
