Jazz Ambassadors concert @ The WYO Theater

SHERIDAN — The Jazz Ambassadors — the official touring band of the U.S. Army — will perform at the WYO Theater at 7:30 p.m. March 31.

The free concert will feature the 19-member ensemble formed in 1969.

Concerts by the Jazz Ambassadors are designed to entertain all types of audiences. Custom compositions and arrangements will highlight the group’s talent and soloists.

The band’s repertoire includes big band swing, bebop, Latin, contemporary jazz, standards, popular tunes, Dixieland, vocals and patriotic selections.

Sheridan High School Symphony and Baroque orchestras concert @ Sheridan High School Sue Henry Auditorium

SHERIDAN — The Sheridan High School Symphony and Baroque orchestras will perform April 1 at 6:30 p.m. in the school’s Sue Henry Auditorium.

The Baroque Orchestra will perform pieces by Mozart and Brahms and the Symphony Orchestra will perform pieces by Weber, Elgar and Lalo. Jacob Jahiel will be featured as a soloist.

In addition, Pippin Robison will perform Stamitz’s violin concerto in G and Mariah Grant will perform a violin concerto in G by Haydn.

Land’s End concert @ First Baptist Church

SHERIDAN — The Sheridan Arts Council in collaboration with the First Baptist Church will host a concert by Land’s End on April 2 at the church.

Land’s End is Canada’s premier classical chamber ensemble and will be joined by WYO Theater Executive Director Gerard Gibbs on oboe and Marcin Swoboda on viola.

A pre-concert talk will begin at 6 p.m. and the concert will start at 7 p.m.

Tickets are $10 for adults, $8 for seniors and military and $5 for students.

Tickets will also be available at the door.

The ensemble will be playing “Prelude, Siciliano, and Rondo” (Malcolm Arnold, 1963); “Pageant” (Vincent Persichetti, 1954); “Paper Cut” (Alex Shapiro, 2010); “Pathfinder of Panama” (John Philip Sousa, 1915); and “Paris Sketches” (Martin Ellerby, 2004).

The concert is free and open to the public.

Sheridan High School choir concert @ Sheridan High School, Sue Henry Auditorium

SHERIDAN — The Sheridan High School choirs will perform a concert for the community at 7 p.m. April 7 in the Sheridan High School Sue Henry Auditorium.

The concert will feature the songs the four choirs will be taking to the upcoming Northeast District Festival to be held April 30 in Gillette.

The Honor Choir will sing a Mozart piece; Treblemakers, the all-girl choir, and Spectrum, a co-ed choir, will both sing several songs they performed at the jazz festival in Casper.

The SHS mixed choir will also perform, and the evening will also feature several small ensembles.

Choir teacher Ashley Lecholat said her choirs work all year to develop the needed techniques to master the mature pieces that will be featured at the concert.

The concert will last approximately one hour and is free and open to the public.

All Sheridan elementary schools choir concert @ Early Auditorium at Sheridan Junior High School

SHERIDAN — All the elementary schools in Sheridan County School District 2 will combine for a night of singing and fun on April 30.

The concert featuring choirs from each elementary school will begin at 7 p.m. Thursday in the Early Auditorium at Sheridan Junior High School.

UNPLUG: Banana Slug String Band and Great Elk Tour @ Mars Black Box Theater at the WYO Theater

SHERIDAN — Unplug Week will kick off May 18 with an offering that is new this year, an evening at the WYO Theater aimed at educating children in a fun way.

The Banana Slug String Band — musicians, songwriters and educators who blend music, theater, puppetry and audience participation to create a learning environment for kids — will perform a free concert from 6-8 p.m. May 18 in the Mars Black Box Theater.

Claire Hobbs, communications and development associate with the SCLT, said the group teaches many different science and environmentally focused lessons ranging from water cycles to recycling in a fun and interactive way.

Just prior, the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation’s traveling “Great Elk Tour” conservation education exhibit will be open from 4-6 p.m. displaying world-class taxidermy as a way for children to better understand the habitat of the animals and how conserving them ensures our hunting heritage.

Baroque and Symphony orchestra concert @ Sheridan High School Sue Henry Auditorium

SHERIDAN — The Baroque Orchestra and the Sheridan High School Symphony Orchestra will present their spring concert at 7 p.m. May 18 at the SHS Sue Henry Auditorium.

The Baroque Orchestra will perform Symphony No. 25 by Mozart.

The SHS Symphony Orchestra will perform selections from Carmen Suite No. 1 by Georges Bizet. Student Jacob Jahiel will perform Mozart’s Violin Concerto in G and Mackenzie Dougherty will perform Violin Concerto in B-flat by Pergolesi with the chamber orchestra.

Both the Baroque and symphony orchestras will combine to perform “Memory” from the musical “Cats” by Andrew Lloyd Weber and “Pirates of the Caribbean” by Klaus Badelt.

DSA wine, food and music pairing event @ The Loft above the Cattle and Creek Restaurant

SHERIDAN — The Downtown Sheridan Association will host an evening of wine, food and music pairing from 6-9 p.m. May 19 at The Loft, located above the Cattle and Creek Restaurant at 201 Broadway St.

The Instagators will provide live music.

Wine will be donated by Steve Reed of Northwest Vintage, and food will be donated by Killy’s Warehouse Market and Red Velvet Bakery.

Tickets are $40 per person.

Big Horn High School band and choir concert @ Big Horn High School auditorium

BIG HORN — The Big Horn High School band and choir will present a Spring Concert at 7 p.m. May 19 in the BHHS auditorium.

Choir selections will include “Where Go The Boats,” with poetry by Robert Louis Stevenson and music by Mary Lynn Lightfoot, “Fly Away Medley” arranged by Mark Hayes, “Riversong” by Roger Emerson and “I Got A Name” arranged by Jay Althouse.

The band will present “Plaza de Toros” by Mark Williams, “Final Drive” by Doug Beach and George Shutack, “Caribbean Dance” by Victor Lopez, “Smack Dab In The Middle” arranged by Rick Stitzel and “Rockin’ The Boat” by Brad Ciechomski.

Music teacher Ariel Downing will direct the band and the choir. Wendy Mort will accompany the choir.

The event is free and open to the public.

Native American powwow @ Historic Sheridan Inn

SHERIDAN — The annual First People’s Powwow and Dance will return to the Historic Sheridan Inn Friday at noon, and two smaller powwows will be offered leading up to the event.

On Wednesday and Thursday at 3 p.m. daily a Native American powwow will be held on the lawn of the Inn celebrating Native American traditions with special features.

The festivities Wednesday will be led by Sandy Ironclad and the Little Sun Dancers from Ethete, on the Wind River Reservation.

The festivities Thursday will be led by Benji Headswift and the ghost bull singers and dancers from the Northern Cheyenne Reservation.

On Friday, immediately following the parade, hundreds of Native Americans will be participating in their traditional ceremony and dance.

At 1 p.m., a buffalo barbecue will be available for purchase for lunch.

All of the powwows are free and open to the public.

The Historic Sheridan Inn is located at 856 Broadway St.

Concert in the Park — Rick Berthod Band @ Kendrick Park

Bring your lawn chairs or blankets and enjoy a family-friendly outdoor concert in the park!

Every Tuesday evening from June 30 thru Aug. 18. Today’s concert is the Rick Berthod Band from Las Vegas, Nevada. Berthod started playing Blues Guitar seriously in his late teens influenced early by Eric Clapton, Duane Allman, Rory Gallagher, Jeff Beck, Jimi Hendrix, BB King and Ted Nugent. After moving to Colorado, Berthod formed his own All-Star Blues Rock band. In 1988, it was off to L.A. to form a band of the best Blues players on the West Coast. Berthod has toured festivals in Europe, Canada and the USA.

Third Friday Pasta Night and Concert @ Sheridan Senior Center

The Sheridan Senior Center will once again host its Third Friday Pasta Night and entertainment on Friday. Each third Friday of the month, from 5-7 p.m. attendees can choose their pasta and toppings, prepared fresh and made to order via a pasta bar and served with salad, garlic bread and beverages for a suggested contribution of $13 per adult and $5 for children. The New Vaudevillians @ The WYO Theater

The seventh season of Vaudeville at the WYO Theater has commenced and another performance of “The New Vaudevillians” will be offered Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.

Ron Kensey is back as emcee, along with Kathy McNickle and the New Vaudevillians Band.

Vaudeville is a series of “up to 5 minutes” upbeat, high energy acts including singing, dancing, magic, standup comedy, sketch comedy, animal acts, tightrope walking, acrobatics and unusual circumstances.

Each performance this summer will feature different acts and all shows are family-friendly.

Tickets are $12 for adults and $6 for students.
