UMC ‘Holiday Express’ craft bazaar @ United Methodist Church

SHERIDAN — The United Methodist Women will host the annual “Holiday Express” bazaar Saturday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Lunch of sloppy joes wind homemade pies will be served from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

The “Closet” will be open and booths of baked goods, crafts, oldies and goodies as well as a children’s shopping room will be included in the bazaar.

All proceeds from the sale will benefit the Methodist women’s mission projects.

Science Saturday – ‘Mysteries of Invisible Life’ @ Sheridan College Science Center

SHERIDAN — This weekend’s edition of Science Saturday on March 7 will focus on “Mysteries of Invisible Life.”

The event, sponsored by the Sheridan College Museum of Discovery and Science Kids, will run from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, March 7, at the Sheridan College Science Center.

Attendees will have the chance to explore minute and miniscule living organisms and discover how the microscopic can have humongous impacts on our health and environment.

Science Saturdays are free and open to children of all ages.

The Food Group Tacofest and Family Fun event @ Edward A. Whitney Academic Center at Sheridan College

SHERIDAN — The Food Group Tacofest and Family Fun event will be held Saturday, March 7, at 5:30 p.m. at Sheridan College.

The fundraiser will benefit children in Sheridan County who would otherwise go hungry over the weekends.

A taco dinner will be provided by Taco John’s and activities for the whole family will be featured.

The free event will be held in the atrium of the Edward A. Whitney Academic Center.

Donations to The Food Group will be accepted at the door.

Organizers of the events said the programs were developed because many kids have outgrown children’s story time but aren’t quite ready for the teen section and are often overlooked.

The program, “Tween Challenge Takeover,” will include activities and experiments that will draw from the fields of science, technology, engineering, art, mathematics and the “maker-space” movement.

The programs will be on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:30-5 p.m. and are meant for kids in fifth through seventh grades.

The following is the schedule of activities planned through April.

March 10 and 12 — Improvisational acting

March 17 and 19 — Cooking

March 24 and 26 — Computer science

March 31 and April 2 — Pottery

April 7 and 9 — Scriptwriting

April 14 and 16 — DIY board game

SHERIDAN — The staff of the Sheridan County Museum has invited the public to get a special look behind the scenes at the museum Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Attendees will get a peek at upcoming exhibits and programs when they drop by anytime during the four-hour period.

A Tidbit Saturday program will also be held at 10 a.m. for younger visitors.

The events are free and open to the public, but advance reservations are requested for those planning to participate in the Tidbit program.

Easter Bunny Princess Pageant @ Sheridan Wesleyan Church

SHERIDAN — An Easter Bunny Princess Pageant will be held March 28 from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Sheridan Wesleyan Church.

The pageant is open to girls from birth to 15 years of age.

Contestants should sign up at the door and it is free to enter the competition. Contestants should bring a party dress and photo. Those ages 3-15 years of age should also bring casual wear.

Contestants are also encouraged to bring approximately 30 small “good luck” gifts to put in other contestants’ bags.

For those contestants wishing to participate in the talent competition, the cost is $15.

Admission for spectators is $10.

Presentations will include information on local nonprofits, essential oils, Zumba, reflecting your youth, touching lives in a way that can be counted and information on the upcoming FAB (For. About. By.) Women’s Conference set for April 17.

The event will benefit the Advocacy and Resource Center, Big Brothers Big Sisters and the local suicide prevention coalition.

This is one hunt that has definitely gone to the dogs! And another one that will go very fast. After the Sheridan Rec District Easter Egg Hunt at 10 am, plan on bringing your pooch to Madia Field (located just west of Thorne-Rider Park) for the 3rd Annual Easter Egg Huntin’ with the Pooch event. Dog and owner will explore and locate eggs filled with dog treats, or discover tennis balls just the right size for fetching! Dogs will need to stay on a leash and, if the pooch has an accident, clean-up is your responsibility (doggie poop bags will be available). The Easter Egg Bunny will probably not show up, because bunnies generally get a little nervous around dogs. Co-sponsor is Sheridan Media. SHERIDAN — This week’s Science Saturday, “Searching for Signs of Spring: A Walk in the Woods in Search of LIFE,” will feature a walk from the college to South Park to look for critters, bugs and birds.

The event will take place from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, April 11. It is free and open to children of all ages.

Participants should meet at the Sheridan College Science Center. After the walk, children will look at bugs and critters collected with microscopes in the science labs.

Science Saturdays are sponsored by the Sheridan College Museum of Discovery and Science Kids.
