VA2K Walk and Roll @ Sheridan Veterans Affairs Medical Center

SHERIDAN — The Sheridan Veterans Affairs Health Care System will host a VA2K Walk and Roll on May 20 at the Sheridan VAMC to encourage healthy activity while supporting homeless Veterans with donated food.

The VA2K Walk and Roll is free and open to veterans, members of the public and VA employees.

The Sheridan VA2K will be held on the parade grounds between 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. May 20.

Pre-registration is not required and those interested in participating can arrive and walk or roll any time during the event. There will be signs for alternate location if weather is poor.

The Sheridan event is just one of many VA2Ks taking place on Wednesday at VA facilities across the country.

In conjunction with the event, VA’s Volunteer Service Office will accept donations to be used for existing VA programs for homeless veterans. There will be a box to receive small household items that will be used to assist homeless veterans moving into their new homes, as well as canned food goods.

There is no requirement for a donation in order to participate.

The event is open to people of all fitness levels and can be done over a lunch break.

Miss Teen send off @ Powder Horn Clubhouse

Local teenager Olivia Boley, Miss Wyoming Outstanding Teen, will be heading off for the national Miss America’s Outstanding Teen Pageant in Orlando, Florida, July 27 thru August 1 and a send-off and fundraising event will be held at the Powder Horn Clubhouse Tuesday. Come for cocktails at 5 p.m., followed by a dress rehearsal by Boley at 6 p.m. The show will include a live talent performance of her dance, interview questions from the crowd and an evening gown competition dress rehearsal. A live auction to support Boley’s platform of “Connecting Generations.” Proceeds from the live auction will go to the Sheridan Senior Center, Children’s Miracle Network and the Miss Wyoming board. Any net profit from ticket sales will be used to help pay for Boley’s trip expenses. Tickets are $50 for adults and $30 for children with each ticket including one drink and light appetizers. “On the Foundation” @ Future home at 1762 Lookout Point Drive

“On the Foundation” a fundraiser for the Habitat for Humanity of the Eastern Bighorns will be held Thursday in the Poplar Grove Subdivision. From 7-10 p.m., an evening of comedy, theater, music, dessert, wine and beer, featuring the music of Micah Wyatt and Josh and Amber Hanson will be offered on the site of a future home at 1762 Lookout Point Drive. Sod Farm Festival @ Green Carpet Sod Farm

The Sod Farm Festival will return to Sheridan on Aug. 22. The semi-annual outdoor music festival is a fundraiser for the nonprofit Project Schoolhouse.

Nonstop music will be performed from 3-8:30 p.m. by bands including Robert Cline Jr., Bonnie and Taylor Sims, the Bare Foot Band, Canary Joe, Chris Knodel, the Craft Brothers, Damian Trujillo, Doug Andrews, Ethan Chartier, the Fireants, the Nate Champion Band, the Quarterman Brothers, Sam Morton, Shot in the Foot, Tab Barker and Too Wet to Plow.

Tickets are $20 in advance, $25 at the gate.

Project Schoolhouse works to build schools and water systems in impoverished parts of Nicaragua.

The festival will take place at the Green Carpet Sod Farm located at 80 Owl Creek Road.

From 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily, representatives will be at Walmart collecting donations.

Food, donations and volunteers are all needed.

Shopping for a Cause @ Twin M Designs and Kraft’s Fine Jewelry

Twin M Designs and Kraft’s Fine Jewelry will host “Shopping for a Cause” on Friday.

Shop at either of these location throughout the day and 25 percent of all sales will benefit the Sheridan Public Arts Committee.

Shopping for a Cause is offered the fourth Friday of every month, benefitting a local nonprofit organization.

Swing for Smiles @ Powder Horn Golf Club

The 2nd annual “Swing for Smiles” golf tournament, to benefit the Give Kids The World Village, an annual project of the Perkins Family Restaurant chain, will be held at the Powder Horn Golf Club on Saturday. Dinner and a calcutta will be hosted Friday night preceding the tournament. On Saturday, shotgun start is at 10 a.m. with rounds going for approximately 4.5 hours. The derby will begin at 3 p.m. and awards will follow at 6 p.m. The tournament is a two person best ball. The cost to participate is $125 for club members and $200 for non-members. Tongue River Valley Community Center 5k Dayton Doggy Dash @ Tongue River Valley Community Center

DAYTON — The Tongue River Valley Community Center has organized a 5k Dayton Doggy Dash for 9 a.m. Saturday.

The race will take place on the streets of Dayton and will travel around the neighborhoods. Participants should bring their dogs, but remember the pets must be on a leash.

The cost to participate is $10 per person (dogs are free). A portion of the proceeds will benefit the Sheridan Dog and Cat Shelter.

To register for the event, stop by one of the TRVCC offices in Dayton or Ranchester or call 655-9419. Day-of registration will begin at 8:30 a.m.

Participants should meet at the TRVCC in Dayton, located at 1100 U.S. Highway 14 in Dayton.

Holy Name 80th annual carnival, chili supper @ Whitney Commons

Holy Name Catholic School will host its 80th annual carnival and chili supper Saturday.

The event will run from 3-7 p.m. in Whitney Commons.

It will include games, booths, a country store, slides, a bouncy house, dunk tank, toys, a cake walk, obstacle course and more.

Burgers, hot dogs, cinnamon rolls and a chili supper will also be available.

Tickets to participate in games and purchase food will be on sale at the event.

The carnival and supper are open to the public.

Powder River Basin Resource Council meeting, dinner @ Sheridan Holiday Inn

SHERIDAN — The Powder River Basin Resource Council will conduct its annual meeting and dinner Oct. 31 at the Holiday Inn in Sheridan.

At 3:45 p.m., Sheridan attorney Tom Toner will discuss land and mineral owners’ rights in the oil and gas bust.

A social hour, music, live and silent auctions and a 50/50 raffle will begin at 4:30 p.m.

Dinner will begin at 7 p.m. and will feature keynote speaker Andrew Nikiforuk. The award-winning Canadian journalist will present “Citizens’ Rights, Government Accountability and Big Oil.”

The cost to attend is $35 for PRBRC members and $45 for nonmembers.

Enjoy a dinner of homemade chili and cornbread beginning at 5:30 p.m.

At 7 p.m., the pie auction will take place.

The cost of the dinner is $6 per person. Kids age 5 and younger will eat for free.

All of the proceeds will benefit the Big Horn Mountain Eagles.

SHERIDAN — The United Methodist Women’s annual “Gingerbread Cookie House” will take place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the Kalif Shrine Center.

The church ladies will do the baking and you’ll have the chance to do the shopping and eating. More than 5,000 homemade cookies and candies will be available, including gluten-free and sugar-free varieties.

The cost of the goodies will be $6 per pound.

Dueling Duo fundraiser for Rotary @ Sheridan County Fairgrounds

SHERIDAN — The Rotary Club will host an all-request dueling piano duo for a fundraiser set for Jan. 22 at the Sheridan County Fairgrounds exhibit hall.

The Dueling Duo will sing and play attendee requests throughout the evening. The event will also include hors d’oeuvres, drinks and door prizes.

Doors open at 7 p.m. and the show will begin at 8 p.m.

Tickets are $50 in advance or $60 at the door. Tickets are available at Sheridan County Title or by calling Sasha Johnston at 672-6478.

The event is sponsored by the Sheridan Rotary Club, and proceeds will benefit the John W. Patton Memorial Project — a pavilion to be located at Rotary Park.
