Big Horn Market @ BIg Horn Mercantile

BIG HORN— The first annual Big Horn Market will be Saturday, Aug. 30th from 9a.m.-2 p.m. Collette Eliason has been working with the Smokehouse and the Big Horn Mercantile to participate through great food and music. Although the event is small, there is a nice variety of participants from local artists paintings, pottery, baked goods (gluten free), home goods, locally made bath and body items, face-painting, wagon rides, locally grown vegetables and kids’ activities. Big Horn Heritage Days will also bring live music to the Big Horn Smokehouse Friday and Saturday night. For more information call Collette Eliason at 752-3764.

MASH fundraiser

SHERIDAN— Powder Horn Kadies Golf Association and Sheridan Memorial Hospital Foundation are teaming up for two fundraisers next week. The events benefit medical advancements for Sheridan Hospital, or M.A.S.H. On Friday at 6 p.m. at the fairgrounds, there will be live music by Sidetrack, a buffet dinner from Big Horn Mountain Caterers, plus auctions. Tickets are $50 per person and you can get them by calling 673-2417. On Saturday, Sept. 6 at the Powder Horn golf course, there will be an 18-hole women’s scramble. Sludge Trudge @ Sheridan County Fairgrounds

SHERIDAN— The Sheridan County Fairgrounds will be the host for “Sludge Trudge”, a 5k muddy obstacle run on Saturday. Competitive waves start at 9 a.m. with non-competitive waves from 10a.m. until 12:30 p.m. The kids race is at 1:30 p.m. with a harvest festival dinner at 7 p.m. If you plan to stay all day, bring lawn chairs, clean clothes, shoes and a towel. Outdoor showers will be provided. There will be food vendors, live music, a beer garden, and muddy exhibits. You can register at www.itsyourrace.com/event.aspx?id=1862.

Out of the Darkness Walk @ Grinnell Street Plaza

SHERIDAN— More than 200 people from throughout Sheridan and Buffalo are expected to participate in the upcoming Out of the Darkness Community Walk on Saturday, Sept. 6. The fundraising walk supports the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) and AFSP Wyoming by helping to support local and national suicide prevention and awareness programs to reduce the annual rate of suicide by 20 percent by 2025. The Sheridan County Out of the Darkness Walk is one of more than 360 Out of the Darkness Community Walks being held this fall nationwide. The walks are expected to unite more than 100,000 walkers nationally and raise more than $12 million for suicide prevention efforts. The Sheridan County community walk will begin at Grinnell Plaza from 9-10 a.m. for registration and end at approximately noon. The Sheridan walk will have speaker, Shaun Damico, who will also be performing. There will be art projects including chalk art and memory rocks, a memory board for those who would like to share pictures of their loved ones, breakfast and coffee for volunteers prior to the walk and lunch for participants following the walk. For those interested in participating, or already registered, who may not be able to physically endure the walk route, there will be the opportunity to travel the last leg of the walk back into the square as the group returns. Five-year-old birthday party at the hospital @ Sheridan Memorial Hospital

SHERIDAN— All five-year-olds in the community are invited to the Sheridan Memorial Hospital Auxiliary’s Annual 5-Year-Old Birthday Party on Saturday, Sept. 6 at the hospital. The birthday party will be held on the back cafeteria patio area at the hospital from 10-11 a.m. All children born in 2009 are invited to attend with their parents. Other siblings are also welcome to join in the fun. Parents may park in employee parking in back of the hospital building. All five-year olds will be given prizes and a special grand prize will be awarded at 10:45 a.m. The Shriner clowns will be on hand with their fire engine to give rides. There will also be face painting and balloons. Children can enjoy popcorn, cookies and other treats. Invitations to the party are being distributed around town and sent home with area Kindergartners. The Hospital Auxiliary has sponsored this event since 1959. The party was first held that year to celebrate the 5th birthday of all babies born during the new hospital building’s first year: 1954. Miles for Smiles 5k @ Whitney Academic Center

SHERIDAN—The Sheridan College Dental Hygiene Program will hold “Miles for Smiles,” a 5K run/walk on Saturday, Sept. 13, at 9 a.m.

Participants will start in front of the Whitney Academic Center at Sheridan College and use Sheridan Pathways. There is a one-mile option for walkers.

Runners will start first, followed by walkers and strollers.

“This is a great opportunity for community members to be active, get involved with Sheridan College and support a great cause,” said Tobin Korsch, Sheridan College Dental Hygiene faculty.

Registration is $35. Proceeds will provide electric toothbrushes for Eagle Ridge Rehabilitative Services, RENEW and Easter Seals communities. Remaining funds will go toward the Sheridan College Dental Hygiene Patient Scholarship, which provides funding for qualified applicants to receive restorative dental treatment.
