Buffalo shop to feature Brooklyn potter’s work @ Margo’s Pottery and Fine Crafts

SHERIDAN — Margo’s Pottery and Fine Crafts will feature the work of Brooklyn potter Claire Weissberg this summer. The show will run from May 27 through Aug. 6, with a reception for the artist set for Friday from 5-7 p.m.

Weissberg’s porcelain pottery is all wheel-thrown and fired in an electric kiln at mid-range. The magazine Ceramics Monthly features a pitcher from the show in its May issue.

Weissberg has no employees. She throws, trims, glazes, fires, sells and packs and ships her own work from her studio in Gowanus, Brooklyn. Weissberg was born in New York City, studied pottery with Clary Illian in Iowa and Chiyoichi Shimizu in Japan. She received her Master of Fine Arts in ceramics from the Rhode Island School of Design and has been a full-time potter in Brooklyn since 1989.

VFW to celebrate Poppy Drive @ Wal-Mart and Kmart

SHERIDAN — The VFW Roy Eaton #1560 members will hold a Buddy Poppy drive Tuesday and Saturday.

On Tuesday, from 9 a.m. to noon, Buddy Poppies will be available at the Sheridan Veterans Affairs Medical Center. On Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon, they will be available at Kmart and Wal-Mart.

The red Buddy Poppy symbolizes the lives lost in war.

Donations will be accepted for the poppies. All proceeds raised will benefit veterans and their families.

Buddy Poppies are assembled in VA hospitals by veterans.

Wal-Mart is located at 1695 Coffeen Ave. Kmart is located at 2571 N. Main St.

The Brinton to host Rolls-Royce debut @ Brinton Museum

SHERIDAN — Rolls-Royce Motor Cars will light up the Wyoming countryside June 2 with the Mountain West debut of the Dawn supercar. The launch will take place at The Brinton Museum, and offer guests an opportunity to experience the twin-turbo, 6.6-liter, V12 juggernaut in a setting that is quintessentially Rolls-Royce.

The Mountain West debut of the Dawn coincides with a Society of American Travel Writers chapter conference being hosted in Sheridan June 2-5.

While in Sheridan, conference attendees will have an opportunity to explore Sheridan, the Bighorn Mountains, centuries-old guest ranches, our historic downtown, Indian battle sites, and beyond, and also test drive the new Dawn while visiting The Brinton Museum.

Sheridan Travel & Tourism is putting together programs with local businesses that showcase all that Sheridan has to offer, from starry night state park drives, downtown dine arounds, craft culture experiences, powwows and more.

Story Woman’s Club to serve breakfast, lunch during yard sales @ Story Woman’s Club

STORY — The public is invited to stop by the Story Woman’s Club for breakfast and lunch during the annual Story Yard Sale Day on June 5.

At breakfast, from 7-11 a.m. (or until it’s gone), the group will be serve biscuits and gravy for $7 and cinnamon rolls for $2.

Lunch will be served from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. (or until it’s gone) and will include pulled pork sandwiches for $7.

Proceeds from the meals will benefit the Story Woman’s Club building maintenance fund.

The Story Woman’s Club is located at 28 N. Piney Road in Story.

Brinton to open new exhibit, ‘Landscape & Beyond’ @ Brinton Museum

BIG HORN — The Brinton Museum will feature nationally-acclaimed American landscape painter Clyde Aspevig in a one-person exhibit, “Landscape & Beyond,” on display in the Forrest E. Mars, Jr. Building’s Jacomien Mars Reception Gallery from June 5 through July 31.

A reception to meet the artist is set for June 5, from 5:30-7:30 p.m. for museum members.

Known by museums and world class collectors, Aspevig is highly regarded as an accomplished American painter who uses vibrant color to depict spectacular Western landscapes. Aspevig is the recipient of numerous awards going back to the 1980s, including more recently the 1997 Prix de West Invitational Award, National Cowboy Hall of Fame; the prestigious 2006 Autry National Center John J. Geraghty Award; and the 2013 Edgar Payne Award for Best Landscape at the 102nd California Art Gold Medal Show, USC Fisher Museum of Art in Los Angeles, California.

As an artist who grew up on a ranch in Montana, his paintings evoke a sense of passion about the land that tugs at an emotional sensibility in all of us. The exhibit includes 28 paintings representing new work as well as a selection of oils dating back to 2013.
