Sock Hop in Story @ Story Women's Club

STORY— The Story Women’s Club is hosting a sock hop Friday from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. You must wear socks, and hopefully dress in 50’s clothing. They will also serve cookies and punch. Free and open to the public, the sock hop will be held at the Story Women’s Club, 28 N. Piney Road in Story. For more information please call Ginny Petersen at 683-3310.

Community Dance @ Sheridan County Fairgrounds

SHERIDAN— There will be a community dance Friday at the Sheridan County Fairgrounds. Underneath the grandstands, dance to music by Justin Beasley at 7 p.m. This event is free and open to the public. The fairgrounds are located at 1753 Victoria Street.

Free guitar class @ Sheridan County Fulmer Public Library

SHERIDAN— Local musician and music therapist Michele Foster will present a free class on basic guitar skills. Folster will be at the Sheridan Fulmer Library on Saturday from 10-11:30 a.m. This class is meant for beginners interested in learning how to play the guitar. Candidate Forum @ Sheridan College Whitney Presentation Hall

SHERIDAN— The Chamber’s Governmental Affairs Committee is hosting a Candidate Forum Tuesday and Wednesday, August 5 and 6. This is a chance for the public to ask all of the candidates, both locally and at a state level, questions. On Tuesday, candidates for U.S. and State positions will be at Sheridan College’s Whitney presentation hall, 3059 Coffeen Ave. On Wednesday, candidates for County, City and Town positions will be there. Concert in the Park @ Kendrick Park

HERIDAN — The next Concert in the Park will be held Tuesday and will feature the Sheridan Concert Band. From 7:30-9 p.m. in the Kendrick Park Bandshell, directed by Don Cherni and Areil Downing. The concert is free and open to all members of the community. Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets. Food concessions will be available. Thursday is National Farmer’s Market week at Sheridan Farmer’s Market @ Grinnell Street Plaza

SHERIDAN— The next Sheridan Farmers Market will be held Thursday on Grinnell Plaza. From 5-7 p.m. vendors will sell produce, arts and crafts and more as live music, children’s activities, demonstrations and nonprofit booths are hosted. This week’s activities include a watermelon eating contest, homemade pie contest, rooster crowing contest, a market basket raffle and a beer and wine garden. Attendance is free for customers and vendor booths are available to rent. Nothing but nets @ Kendrick Park

SHERIDAN— Help the Sheridan Jaycees raise funds to prevent malaria in Africa. On Thursday, August 7, there will be family fun at Kendrick Park starting at 6 p.m. There will be live entertainment from the Boot Hill band, dance lessons, silent auction, food vendors, and adult beverages. This is a fundraiser for Nothing but Nets, an international organization that supplies bed nets to African families. The event is free, but donations are appreciated. NSI Fall Festival @ NSI Academy

SHERIDAN— The NSI Academy will present its fall fest Friday, Aug. 8 and Saturday, Aug. 9. On Friday there will be a pig spit barbecue and live music by The Craft Brothers starting at 6 p.m. On Saturday at 9 a.m., there will be a 5k Color Run that you can register for online. There will also be a lunch and a duck race. Both days will feature musical performances by the student body and inflatables for the whole family. This event is free and open to the public, but donations are welcome to establish a performing arts program at NSI Academy. The NSI Academy is located at 5 Lane Lane.
