Rangeland restoration lecture set for May 4 @ Sheridan College Science Building / Mohns Center
May 4 @ 7:00 pm – 8:00 pm

SHERIDAN — The Sheridan College Museum of Discovery will host the next presentation in its science lecture series May 4 beginning at 7 p.m.

The lecture is free and open to the public and will be held at the Sheridan College Science Museum/Mohns Center.

Brian Mealor will give the presentation. Mealor is the director of the University of Wyoming’s Research and Extension Center in Sheridan and associate professor in the Department of Plant Sciences. His work focuses primarily on restoring rangeland ecosystems negatively impacted by invasive plants.

Mealor will discuss how rangeland ecosystems are impacted by a variety of stressors that affect their structure and function — altered fire regimes, climate variability, mismanaged grazing and changes in management practices. Invasive plants may be facilitated by these stressors or they may induce systemic changes that lead to further alteration of ecosystems. This presentation will emphasize the connection between basic and applied research and discuss how an increased understanding of the biology and ecology of invasive plants leads to improved management at local and landscape-scales.

Sheridan College is located at 3059 Coffeen Ave.
