Tween Challenge Takeover — Chemistry @ Sheridan County Fulmer Public Library
May 5 @ 3:30 pm – 5:00 pm

SHERIDAN — The Sheridan County Fulmer Public Library will continue to offer programming for “tweens” through May.

Next week’s “Tween Challenge Takeover” programs will focus on fiber art.

“Tween Challenge Takeover” is geared toward kids in fifth through seventh grades.

The program includes activities and experiments that draw from the fields of science, technology, engineering, art, mathematics and the “maker-space” movement.

The programs are held Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:30-5 p.m. in the Children’s Theater at Sheridan County Fulmer Public Library.

The following is the schedule of activities planned through May:

  • April 28 and 30 — Biodiversity
  • May 5 and 7 — Chemistry
  • May 12 and 14 — Stop-motion animation
  • May 19 and 21 — Clay sculpting
  • May 26 and 28 — K’nex

‘Jentel Presents’ @ Sagebrush Community Art Center
May 5 @ 5:30 pm – 7:00 pm

SHERIDAN — The Jentel Artist Residency Program will present this month’s residents in an event open to the public.

“Jentel Presents” will take place from 5:30-7 p.m. May 5 at Sagebrush Community Art Center, on the corner of Fifth and Broadway streets.

“Jentel Presents” is a community outreach program that features visual presentations and readings by the visual artists and writers at the residency.

Tuesday’s presenters will include Gary Hawkins of Johnson, Vermont; installation artist Renee Cinderhouse of Kansas City, Missouri; textile artist Katrina Majkut of Brooklyn, New York; poet and playwright Afaa Weaver of Somerville, Massachusetts; visual artist Lauren Kalman of Detroit, Michigan; and sculptor Mitchell Messina of Pittsford, New York.

“Jentel Presents” is free and open to the public, and refreshments will be served.

‘From the Titanic to Western Cowboys’ with Adam Jahiel @ Sagebrush Community Center
May 6 @ 7:00 pm

SHERIDAN — The Sheridan Photographers Association will present “From the Titanic to Western Cowboys,” a presentation by renowned local photographer Adam Jahiel, during its monthly event at 7 p.m. May 6 at the Sagebrush Community Art Center.

Jahiel will share his story of becoming a photographer who travels the world, his experience photographing the Titanic in a submersible and why he photographs cowboys in the rugged west. Jahiel will also answer questions and share tips at the end of the presentation.

Over the years, Jahiel has photographed diverse subject matter including celebrities in Los Angeles, the RMS Titanic and life in Kyrgyzstan and Cuba. His images have been exhibited and published all over the world. In 1996, he became the first living photographer to have a one-man show at the Buffalo Bill Historical Center in Cody.

SPA is a local community of photographers of all skill levels who meet to educate and inspire each other through photography workshops, photo walks, lectures, instameets and more.

The event is free and open to the public.

‘Paint & Pinot for Paws’ to benefit the Dog and Cat Shelter @ The Paint Post
May 13 @ 6:00 pm

SHERIDAN — The Paint Post will offer “Paint & Pinot for Paws” at 6 p.m. May 13.

The evening of step-by-step painting instruction will allow participants to take home a cute rendition of six furry friends — not to mention the memories of a fun evening with friends, music and a little wine.

A portion of the money raised from the event will go to the Dog and Cat Shelter.

The cost is $40 per person.

Seating is limited; contact the Paint Post to register by calling 752-8677.
