Back Country Horsemen to meet, clean up highway @ Buffalo Run Highway
May 24 @ 4:00 pm – 5:00 pm

SHERIDAN — The Cloud Peak Back Country Horsemen will meet and participate in a highway cleanup on Tuesday at 4 p.m.

Cleanup will take place on Highway 14 about 9 miles east of Sheridan, near the Buffalo Jump area.

A potluck will follow the cleanup. Future trail projects and State Rendezvous at Turpin Meadows will be also discussed.

SMH to host Chamber Coffee next week @ Sheridan Memorial Hospital

SHERIDAN — The Sheridan County Chamber of Commerce will host a community-focused roundtable discussion over breakfast coffee Wednesday from 8-9 a.m.

The event will take place at Sheridan Memorial Hospital. It is free and open to the public.

Miners picnic planning meeting set for Wednesday @ Sheridan County Fulmer Public Library

SHERIDAN — A planning meeting for the Monarch/Underground miners picnic will be held at 5 p.m. Wednesday at the Sheridan County Fulmer Public Library in the Fulmer Room.

All interested parties are urged to attend.

The picnic will take place July 31 at Pine Island Campground in the Bighorn National Forest. It will be begin at 10 a.m. and continue to 5 p.m.

The Sheridan County Fulmer Public Library is located at 335 W. Alger St.

SHS symphony concert set for Wednesday @ Sheridan High School

SHERIDAN — The Sheridan High School symphony and baroque orchestras will perform in concert Wednesday at 7 p.m. at the high school’s auditorium.

The concert is free and open to the public.

SHERIDAN — Sheridan County will play host to the 3A and 4A state soccer tournaments May 26-28.

Sixteen boys teams and 16 girls teams vying for the state’s championship titles will compete at the Big Horn Equestrian Center.

Buffalo shop to feature Brooklyn potter’s work @ Margo’s Pottery and Fine Crafts

SHERIDAN — Margo’s Pottery and Fine Crafts will feature the work of Brooklyn potter Claire Weissberg this summer. The show will run from May 27 through Aug. 6, with a reception for the artist set for Friday from 5-7 p.m.

Weissberg’s porcelain pottery is all wheel-thrown and fired in an electric kiln at mid-range. The magazine Ceramics Monthly features a pitcher from the show in its May issue.

Weissberg has no employees. She throws, trims, glazes, fires, sells and packs and ships her own work from her studio in Gowanus, Brooklyn. Weissberg was born in New York City, studied pottery with Clary Illian in Iowa and Chiyoichi Shimizu in Japan. She received her Master of Fine Arts in ceramics from the Rhode Island School of Design and has been a full-time potter in Brooklyn since 1989.

VFW to celebrate Poppy Drive @ Wal-Mart and Kmart
May 28 @ 9:00 am – 12:00 pm

SHERIDAN — The VFW Roy Eaton #1560 members will hold a Buddy Poppy drive Tuesday and Saturday.

On Tuesday, from 9 a.m. to noon, Buddy Poppies will be available at the Sheridan Veterans Affairs Medical Center. On Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon, they will be available at Kmart and Wal-Mart.

The red Buddy Poppy symbolizes the lives lost in war.

Donations will be accepted for the poppies. All proceeds raised will benefit veterans and their families.

Buddy Poppies are assembled in VA hospitals by veterans.

Wal-Mart is located at 1695 Coffeen Ave. Kmart is located at 2571 N. Main St.

Cutting horse, reined cowhorse show set for May 28 @ Sheridan College AgriPark

SHERIDAN — The cutting horse and reined cowhorse portions of the Buffalo High School rodeo will take place May 28 at the Sheridan College AgriPark.

While the other portions of the event will take place earlier in the day at the Johnson County Fairgrounds, these contests will begin at 4 p.m. and will bring in high school competitors from across the state.

Admission to the event is free.

The Brinton to host Rolls-Royce debut @ Brinton Museum

SHERIDAN — Rolls-Royce Motor Cars will light up the Wyoming countryside June 2 with the Mountain West debut of the Dawn supercar. The launch will take place at The Brinton Museum, and offer guests an opportunity to experience the twin-turbo, 6.6-liter, V12 juggernaut in a setting that is quintessentially Rolls-Royce.

The Mountain West debut of the Dawn coincides with a Society of American Travel Writers chapter conference being hosted in Sheridan June 2-5.

While in Sheridan, conference attendees will have an opportunity to explore Sheridan, the Bighorn Mountains, centuries-old guest ranches, our historic downtown, Indian battle sites, and beyond, and also test drive the new Dawn while visiting The Brinton Museum.
