From staff reports SHERIDAN— Sheridan County is launching a county-wide contest to design a new logo that represents the county in a unique and identifying way. Submissions will be accepted through Thursday, Aug. 7. The County Commission will select up to 10 semi-finalists to be presented to the public for voting. Finalists will each receive $50 in Chamber Bucks, and the contest winner will receive $250 in Chamber Bucks.

Casting for Recovery @ Absaroka Ranch

Casting for Recovery, a two and a half day free retreat awarded to 14 women of Wyoming who are breast cancer survivors, will be held July 25-27. The fourth annual event includes fly-fishing instruction, breast cancer information and other tools for healing and socializing, including a psycho-social therapist, a health care professional and river helpers. The services are provided at no cost to the participants thanks to donations from individuals and businesses as well as grants from the Wyoming Community Foundation, Wyoming Affiliate of Susan G. Komen and the Community Foundation of Jackson Hole. The organization is currently seeking residents to apply for the 2014 retreat, which will be held in Dubois at the Absaroka Ranch. SHERIDAN— The Wyoming Department of Workforce Services, Sheridan Workforce Center, and the Sheridan Veterans Administration are partnering to host their second annual job fair on Friday. From 2 p.m. until 4 p.m., the Sheridan VA Medical Center auditorium will open its doors to veterans only, but then starting at 4 p.m., they will open their doors to public job seekers. There will be over 20 employers from all career fields and participants are encouraged to dress for an interview and bring resumes. For more information call 672-9775.

Friday’s events include the Cow Pie Classic golf tournament and the pet parade, movie, and talent show in the park. Climb Brooks Mountain @ Wyoming Wilderness Association

SHERIDAN — For the next event in a series of outings celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Wilderness Act of 1964 and the 30th anniversary of the Wyoming Wilderness Act of 1984, the Wyoming Wilderness Association will host a gradual climb to the top of Brooks Mountain. A moderate to strenuous hike, it leads to a breathtaking drop-off overlooking Brooks Lake and the DuNoir valley, with views of the Tetons. Bring a picnic lunch and spend time discussing the anniversary of wilderness areas The walk will be approximately eight miles roundtrip. Spur Ranch Fest

Learn about forest service policies at ‘Wyoming Wednesday’ @ Wyoming Welcome Center

SHERIDAN — The Wyoming Office of Tourism will host the next event in a series of events called “Wyoming Wednesdays.” Informative and interpretive programs about Sheridan are being offered at 10 a.m. most Wednesdays throughout July at the Wyoming Welcome Center. At this week’s event, Cheri Jones of the United States Forest Service will talk about forest service policies and will focus on the Big Horn National Forest. The events are free and open to everyone. Attendees are encouraged to bring picnic lunches and stay and enjoy the visitor’s center before or after each program. The center is located off of Interstate 90 on the Fifth Street exit. Sheridan College presents ‘Hoffman Days’ @ Sheridan College

SHERIDAN — The Sheridan College Foundation will host “Hoffman Days”, Friday and Saturday at Sheridan College. Bruce Hoffman has been with the Northern Wyoming Community College District for 50 years, and coached the Generals men’s basketball for 16 years. Friday’s events will begin at 11:30 a.m. and will include a golf scramble and lunch. Saturday’s events will start at 5:30 p.m. and will feature the Bruce Hoffman banquet. Registration deadline is July 25 and both events are $50 per person. The SC Foundation is looking for contact information for any of Hoffman’s former players to invite them to the two-day event, which features a banquet and a roast, recognizing Hoffman’s commitment to NWCCD. SHERIDAN — The Sheridan College Foundation will host “Hoffman Days” Aug. 1-2 at Sheridan College. Bruce Hoffman has been with the Northern Wyoming Community College District for 50 years and coached the Generals men’s basketball for 16 years. All of the players from his coaching days have been invited to join in the recognition. Events will begin Aug. 1 at 11:30 a.m. with a four-person, four-club choice golf scramble over nine holes at Kendrick Golf Course. Registration is $50 per person and includes clubs, a cart and lunch. The deadline to register is Friday. The events of the day will continue with a welcome reception at Sheridan College from 5-7 p.m. Attendees are invited to the new Thorne Rider Campus Center for hors d’oeuvres and spirits for $25 per person. A banquet will be held Aug. 2 featuring a full-service dinner and good-natured roast of Hoffman. The cost to attend is $50 per person.
