SHERIDAN — Starting in August, Sheridan County Fulmer Public Library will host “Read Ingredients,” a reading and discussion series about food and foodways.
This series has been developed in conjunction with the Wyoming Humanities Council’s 2013 tour of “Key Ingredients: America by Food,” a traveling exhibit from the Smithsonian Institute. This exhibit is scheduled to come to the SCFPL in November.
The series is designed to explore the two ingredients that are key to American cuisine — regional traditions and international influences.
The discussion group, led be Katie Curtiss, will meet from noon to 2 p.m. Aug. 6, Sept. 10, Oct. 8 and Nov. 5 at the library.
On Aug. 6 the group will discuss “Animal, Vegetable, Miracle” by Barbara Kingsolver.
“Second Hoeing,” a novel about Colorado sugar beet workers by Hope Williams Sykes will be discussed Sept. 10.
“My Life in France” by Julia Child and Alex Prud’Homme will be the book discussed Oct. 8.
The final book discussion will be Nov. 5 on “Food of a Younger Land,” the Works Progress Administration’s collection of American food traditions recently edited by Mark Kurlansky.
The books are available for checkout at the library’s circulation desk.
These discussions are free and open to the public.
