SHERIDAN — First Light Children’s Center is again seeking an executive director due to administrative complications.
In a press release, Maureen Metcalf of the First Light Board of Directors said William Maxwell will be stepping down from his position after spending approximately three months at the center.
Metcalf cited two reasons the board decided to accept Maxwell’s letter of resignation, which is effective immediately. The first, she said, was that Maxwell was unable to provide sufficient documentation of his previous childcare experience to satisfy the director requirements of the Department of Family Services.
Metcalf also said Maxwell expressed a desire to seek employment that provides medical insurance.
Maxwell provided a letter to parents that does not address the documentation issues described by Metcalf, but explains his child has an ongoing, chronic illness that can be managed via medication and hospital visits and care.
He explains that while is wife had hoped to secure employment that would provide insurance for the family, that plan did not materialize.
Along with the notice of Maxwell’s resignation, Metcalf also announced that Jeannie Julian would serve as interim director. Julian is a registered nurse with experience in early, elementary and junior high education, would serve as interim director until the position can be filled permanently.
“In a spirit to keep moving forward the board has hired Jeannie Julian as our interim director with verified credentials to assume the role,” Metcalf wrote. “She is committed to staying for as long as it takes.”
First Light Children’s Center occupies a building owned by the Sheridan Economic and Educational Development Authority, and has been operating since January 2012.
