SHERIDAN — Wednesday morning the Sheridan County Sheriff’s Office received a report of an illegal dumping of hazardous waste at the Welch Recreational Area, located approximately 10 miles north of Sheridan.
An unknown person or persons dumped a large amount of a petroleum based substance on the roadway leading to the Welch Recreational Area. The substance covered the roadway, vegetation and drained into the Tongue River, where ongoing efforts are being made to prevent water contamination.
