Wyo-Rodeo tickets sales up for 2013 event

SHERIDAN — The community of Sheridan once again made the Sheridan-Wyo-Rodeo a fun, successful event that can only continue to improve, Sheridan-Wyo-Rodeo President Zane Garstad said Monday.

Final numbers for the 2013 rodeo are in, and Garstad said everyone involved with the Sheridan-Wyo-Rodeo is pleased.

“This event is owned by the community. They embrace it, and everyone supports it, and that makes our jobs way easier,” Garstad said.

Total ticket sales this year topped out at 19,354, up from 18,500 last year, Garstad said. Payout was also up from $279,000 last year to $291,000 this year.

The Sheridan-Wyo-Rodeo increased its payout $1,000 per event this year, Garstad said. He partially credits the increased payout for attracting better cowboys and cowgirls. He also said the rodeo is building a strong reputation around the nation.

“We had a great lineup of athletes this year,” Garstad said. “Our reputation is getting better and better, and we’re more known, and I think more people are excited about coming here. We’ve really built up some momentum, and we want to keep building on that.”

While the Board of Directors for the Sheridan-Wyo-Rodeo is currently taking a quick breather, board members will begin to meet the second Tuesday of every month starting in August to gear up for next year’s rodeo.

The August meeting will include a rodeo review and discussion on what can be improved, and then planning for the 2014 Sheridan-Wyo-Rodeo will kick into gear.

“The board thanks the community of Sheridan for all the support we get. We don’t take it for granted,” Garstad said. “It was a great rodeo week.”
