Sheridan Jets, Troopers winding down season

SHERIDAN — The Sheridan Jets had a shortened weekend but wrapped up their regular season with two wins over Gillette Saturday.

Sheridan hosts this weekend’s State B Tournament, beginning at 7 p.m. Thursday against Casper.

Saturday, Sheridan beat Gillette 4-2 and 13-3 at Thorne-Rider Stadium.
Sheridan used a two-run ninth inning to come back from a 3-2 deficit and get the game one win.

Davis Alden went five innings, allowing just one earned run while walking two and striking out four batters. Caleb Hoopes pitched three scoreless innings of relief.

In the second game, Sheridan jumped all over Gillette with a five-run first inning, adding three in the third before Gillette got on the board. The game ended in the fifth after Sheridan’s five-runs pushed the game to the 10-run rule.

Michael Larsen and Turner Martini each had three RBIs and Chance Wiltse had two.

James Timberlake lasted the full five innings with five strikeouts and two runs allowed in the blowout.

“It was nice to get a couple of wins before starting our state tournament,” head coach Ryan Murner said. “Starting Thursday everyone is 0-0.  If we want to have success in the final part of our season we have to give full effort on every pitch and play well throughout each entire game. Anyone is capable of winning or losing depending on how they play so we will have come focused to play every game. I think our guys are ready for it.”

Troopers wrap up regular season this week

SHERIDAN — The Sheridan Troopers (19-20) had the weekend off but will play plenty this week as their state tournament approaches.

Sheridan is in Laramie and Cheyenne tonight and tomorrow before returning home Wednesday for their final home game against Casper. First pitch is set for 6 p.m. at Thorne-Rider Stadium.

Sheridan holds a 2-1 League AA record, and while they fell to Casper in a non-league game at a tournament in Cheyenne two weeks ago, the Wednesday home finale will be a conference contest. They’ll get the bulk of their league schedule this week as the Cheyenne Post 6 game Tuesday, and another game with Casper Saturday are conference match-ups.

The Wyoming State AA Tournament is set for July 31-Aug. 4 in Cheyenne.
