Absentee voting ongoing in special election for SC bond issue

SHERIDAN — The special election for the Sheridan College bond issue is fast approaching.

In one month, on Aug. 20, polling sites around the county will be open for all registered voters to cast their ballot for or against the $15.85 million, 16-year general obligation bond that will support expansion of the college’s technical education center.

“It will be just like a regular election,” Sheridan County Elections Supervisor Brenda Kekich said.

All polling sites in the county — 29 total — will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Aug. 20.

All registered voters age 18 or older can participate. People can register to vote prior to the election at the Sheridan County Courthouse or at the town halls in Dayton, Ranchester and Clearmont. It is also possible to register on election day at polling sites. Identification is required in order to register.

Absentee ballots are currently available and can be requested in person, by mail or by phone. The Election Office is located on the second floor of the Sheridan County Courthouse addition.

Absentee ballots must be returned to the clerk’s office or any polling place by 7 p.m. on election day. Absentee ballots cannot be requested after 5 p.m. the day before the election or on election day, Kekich said.

To date, the election office has mailed 173 absentee ballots and received 78 in return. There are 14,800 registered voters in Sheridan County, Kekich said.

Election results will be posted as they become available Aug. 20 on the Sheridan County website at www.sheridancounty.com. For more information call the Sheridan County Election Office at 674-2515.
