SHERIDAN — After a slow start, the Sheridan Troopers finished 3-1 at a weekend tournament in Billings.
Sheridan lost 7-0 to Jackson Thursday, and on Friday, the Troopers defeated the Billings Halos 7-4 behind a strong pitching performance by Skyler Holwell. He went five innings scattering eight hits and striking out eight while allowing just two runs.
Drew Adriaens allowed one hit and no runs in two innings of relief.
Holwell and Tony Mort each had two RBIs.
Later that night, Sheridan fell to the Laramie Rangers 5-7. The Troopers are home tonight for a rematch with Laramie. Sheridan managed eight hits in the loss, with Connor McCafferty going 2-4 at the plate with an RBI. On the mound, McCafferty lasted the full six-inning contest as he gave up nine hits, striking out three.
Sheridan won Saturday and Sunday to close their tournament, first outgunning the Gillette Rustlers 13-7 Saturday morning then edging the Cody Cubs 7-4 Sunday.
Adriaens was 2 for 3 at the plate with two RBIs against Cody, and Kaul Eisele had two RBIs as well. Will O’Dell pitched five innings, allowing four earned runs on 10 hits, and Eisele didn’t allow a run in three innings of relief work, recording the win.
Sheridan (17-20) plays a doubleheader tonight with the Laramie Rangers (27-13-1) at Thorne-Rider Stadium. First pitch is set for 5:30 p.m.
