Zullig Foundation to fund SMH urgent care construction

SHERIDAN — The Sheridan Memorial Hospital Foundation received a $105,000 gift from the Herbert G. and Dorothy Zullig Foundation that will fully fund design and construction costs for the new Sheridan Memorial Hospital Urgent Care Clinic, according to a media release.

The new urgent care clinic will be located near the emergency department. It will have a separate entrance and will serve patients who need medical care for non-emergency needs.

“The hospital board is to be commended for identifying and responding to the need in our community to serve those patients who appear at the emergency room door wanting medical attention for non-emergency needs,” Zullig Foundation Director Bob Berger said in the release.

The Zullig Foundation was established in 1987 and has supported several hospital projects including the new patient wing, the Welch Cancer Center, the Griffith Emergency Department and the Watt Dialysis Center.

“This generous gift from the Zullig Foundation supports the strategic work of Sheridan Memorial Hospital,” Foundation Executive Director Ada Kirven said in the release. “We can’t thank the Zullig board enough for recognizing the importance of this project.”

Physician’s Assistant Kelly Lieb will head the urgent care team, which will offer walk-in care during daytime, evening and Saturday hours at a cost less than care in the emergency department, Chief Medical Officer Dr. Richard Addlesperger said.

Total cost for the project is $148,000. The Zullig gift will cover the design and remodel of current emergency room space for the new clinic. The hospital will be responsible for the remaining $43,000 for equipment and software.

The new urgent care clinic is scheduled to open in August.
