SHERIDAN — Five Lady Generals have earned All-Region academic honors.
Sheridan College sophomores Brodie Bennett, Jasmine Davis and Kayla Kiriau along with freshmen Stephany Sessions and Morgan Wille were named to the 2012-13 Academic All-Region team this week.
“To have five players earn academic honors really means a lot to our program and our institution,” head coach Frank McCarthy said. “It really speaks volumes about the type of student-athletes we have on this team and it sets a standard for what our coaching staff looks for in future players.”
McCarthy has always stressed high standards in the classroom, and last year the Lady Generals were recognized for team grade point average.
“Student-athletes who work just as hard in the classroom as they do on the court are important to the continued success of this program,” he continued. “I am proud of all the hard work these young women put in all year.”
Also Monday, Milomilo Nanai was named to the 2013 Region IX All-Tournament Team.
Nanai carried the Lady Generals with 20.5 points and 12.5 rebounds during Sheridan College’s two tournament games.
The Lady Generals were eliminated by Northwest College in the quarterfinals.
Western Nebraska and Gillette College each had three players on the team.
