City Council tables rezone request, approves Sheridan Links PUD

Sheridan City Council had just enough members to meet quorum at its regularly scheduled meeting Monday. Four out of seven members were present, with three being absent due to sickness and vacation leave.

Having only the quorum present did lead the council to table a request to rezone approximately 2 acres from R-1 residential to R-3 residential in the Cloud Peak Ranch development near Highland Park School on Mydland Road. The ordinance would have required all four council members present to vote in favor of the rezone in order for it to pass.

Due to resident concern and uncertainty on plans for the development, which is slated for land east of the Traditions neighborhood at the intersection of Dome Drive and Mydland Road, councilors said they could not support it at this time. They urged the developer to work with residents of the adjacent Traditions neighborhood to address concerns about density, increased traffic, lot sizes and lack of open space.

In other business, city council approved on third and final reading the annexation of approximately 57 acres on the corner of West Fifth Street and Mydland Road into city limits. Council members also approved the final plat for the Sheridan Links Planned Unit Development planned for the newly annexed land. The development will include three sections — a business section on West Fifth Street currently owned by Grace Anglican Church, a patio home section and a section for large estate homes on the south end of the old country club golf course.

The final plat was approved with conditions regarding the addition of a 10-foot wide pathway that will connect to the Sheridan Pathways system on Mydland Road.
