Gillette Riders handle Jets; Baseball weekend schedule

SHERIDAN — The Sheridan Jets lost two games to the Gillette Riders Wednesday on the road.

Sheridan (9-20) dropped the first game 10-6, then falling 8-2 in the night cap.

“We had a lot of let downs today,” head coach Ryan Murner said. “In both games we had leads only to give it right back to Gillette in the bottom half of the inning.”

In the first game, Sheridan led 6-1 after four and a half innings, giving up six and three runs in the bottom halves of the fifth and sixth to take the loss.

“Big innings gave them back momentum in each game, and we couldn’t put enough together at the plate to come back,” Murner said.

“I thought we pitched well enough today, but our mistakes in the field kept us from keeping that momentum.”

Tyler Stauffer led off on the mound for the Jets, going four and 1/3 innings while striking out six and allowing five earned runs.

Blake Godwin, Max Lube, and James Timberlake had RBIs, with Lube and Kendall Walters going 2-4 at the plate.

In the final game, Walters lasted four innings, giving up five earned while striking out seven and only walking one batter.
Timberlake and Davis Alden had RBIs.

The Jets had 11 errors Wednesday night.

“If we can limit our opponent’s extra opportunities,  we should give ourselves a chance in every game,” Murner finished.

Sheridan is home for a doulbeheader with the Billings Regulators beginning at 1 p.m. Saturday.
