SHERIDAN — The Wyoming Cowboys Basketball team released its non-conference schedule Wednesday, a tilt that includes games with Ohio State, Southern Methodist University and Colorado.
Wyoming began last season 13-0, unbeaten through the non-confernce portion of their schedule, before faltering during Mountain West Conference league play and finishing their 2012-13 campgain with a College Basketball Invitational appearance.
For 2013-14, the Pokes premier early season game will be the road trip to play the Buckeyes Nov. 25. Coach Thad Motta’s OSU played to an NCAA Tournament Elite 8 finish last year. The contest falls between games in Laramie against South Dakota State Nov. 22 and Montana State Nov. 30 at the Arena Auditorium.
“As our basketball program continues to grow, we’d like our schedule to grow as well,” head coach Larry Shyatt said in a prepared release from the school. “This season’s non-conference opponents present that challenge with contests against a top-five Ohio State team and games with potential top-25 programs in SMU and Colorado.
“The game in Columbus also gives Larry Nance Jr. and Jack Bentz a chance to compete in their home state, which is something we hoped we could make happen for them and their families.”
The schedule features 10 home games, all to be played in Laramie, and four away games in Denver, Boulder and Rapid City.
Wyoming plays in the early season series, the Global Sports Main Event, in November with three games in Laramie and the game against Colorado.
Last season, the Cowboys earned their first Top 25 ranking in more than 10 years after upsetting the then-No. 21 ranked Buffaloes in Laramie.
