Train Hits Car at 5th Street Crossing

SHERIDAN — A 27-year-old Sheridan man drove his car into the side of a moving train just before 6:30 a.m. Monday morning at the railroad crossing at Fifth Street.

Police Sgt. Tom Ringley told The Sheridan Press that the driver was transported to Sheridan Memorial Hospital as a result of the accident. He has been cited with driving under the influence.

Police have not yet released the driver’s name.

A witness told police investigators that although the crossing lights and gate had been activated, the driver made no attempt to stop for the train.

The westbound vehicle subsequently collided with the side of the locomotive.

An investigation into the incident is ongoing.

Traffic flow through the intersection has since resumed.
