SHERIDAN — The Bighorn National Forest will celebrate National Trails Day on Sunday with a work day at the Cutler Nordic Trails off U.S. Highway 14 west of Dayton, according to a press release.
Anyone interested in improving the trails for summer bicycling and winter recreation is invited to join volunteers from Bomber Mountain Cycling Association and Black Mountain Nordic Club for a day of trail maintenance.
Volunteers will meet at 9 a.m. Sunday at the Forest Service office, 2013 Eastside Second Street, just past the Wingate Inn on the road to the landfill.
Volunteers will carpool up the mountain and will return at approximately 3 p.m. Parking is limited at the ski area.
Volunteers should plan on a day of hiking and work with hand tools.
Wear sturdy boots (no open-toe shoes), long sleeve shirts and pants.
Bring plenty of food and water, sunscreen, insect repellent and a pack to carry needed items.
Lunch will be enjoyed along the trail, and items left in vehicles will not be readily available.
The Forest Service will provide tools, hard hats, gloves and eye protection. There will be a raffle for gear from the National Trails Day kit such as hats, T-shirts, water bottles, a backpack and more.
For more information, call the Forest Service office at 674-2639.
