SHERIDAN — A late offensive burst by the Omaha Roncalli finished the Sheridan Troopers Omaha trip with a 9-4 loss Monday afternoon.
Sheridan won one game and lost four, playing three teams from Colorado and two from Nebraska in the unique trip that allowed them time to watch the first few days of the College World Series.
On Monday, the Troop held a 2-2 tie with the Roncalli after three innings, but gave up 7 runs in the final three frames to take the loss.
Tyler Stauffer, an incoming sophomore, took the mound for the second time on the weekend. He went four innings, allowing 10 hits with five earned runs, walking one and striking out two. Kaul Eisele came on in relief, giving up four earned.
Eisele and Ethan Hoopes were each 2-4 with RBIs on the day, and Will O’Dell was 2 for 3 at the plate.
Sheridan managed some consistency in just being on the playing surface after an early season that has seen seven rainouts. They play the Billings Halos at 5 p.m. Thursday at Thorne-Rider Stadium. It will be a chance to see them in action for Sheridan for the first time since May 12, their last home game, and until July 15.
After Thursday, Sheridan will get plenty of games as they play three weekend tournaments in Rapid City, Cheyenne and Billings.
