SHERIDAN — Six Sheridan County rodeo competitors have qualified for the High School National Finals Rodeo after their season wrapped up in Douglas.
From Sheridan: Jeffery Zdziarski (bareback bronc riding); Shelby Mann, (alt., pole bending); Weston Mann, (team roping); and Kylee Cahoy, (alt., barrel racing). From Arvada: Bryce Burnell, (bull riding) and Faith Carson (girls cutting).
Burnell and Carson of Arvada took home the only year-end event awards out of Sheridan County. Burnell won the saddle for bull riding, finishing with 201 points on the season, and Carson took the girls cutting saddle.
At the state finals over the weekend, Zdziarski took the bareback buckle with his two-ride score. After riding a 73 in his first go, he scored a 65 in his second, holding off state bareback saddle winner Justin Kissack of Gillette.
Zdziarski finished with 207.5 points in the year-end bareback standings, behind Kissack’s 232.
Weston Mann and Cameron Irwin won the average team roping in three runs in Douglas. The Sheridan-Buffalo pair roped their steer in 8.5 seconds in the qualifying round after recording a 9.27 and a 9.85 in their first two tries.
The HSNFR will be held July 14-20 in Rock Springs.
