SHERIDAN — Matthew Wigglesworth has been named the 2A boys track and field athlete of the year, an award given to the top female and male athlete of each classification.
Beynon Sports Surfaces and the Wyoming Coaches Association announced the Big Horn senior Wigglesworth Thursday as a recipient along with Ben Mancuso of 1A Burlington, Ty Etchemendy of 3A Douglas and Ricky Faure of 4A Rock Springs. On the girls side it was Rachelle Leseberg of 1A Dubois, Shana Wilcoxson of 2A Burns, Jessie Eaves of 3A Worland and Jerayah Davis, 4A Kelly Walsh.
Wigglesworth won the boys 300-meter hurdles state title last weekend in Casper, running a 40.26-second time to edge out Wind River’s Jesse Hawk at 40.36. He was also third in the 100-meter hurdles (15.86), fourth in the 400-meter run (52.08) and ran on the Rams 4X100-meter relay team which finished fifth in Casper.
In all, Wigglesworth was responsible for 25 points toward the Rams’ team total.
Big Horn finished sixth at state with 43 points.
